Jokhini is a short fantasy horror film, revolving around the tale of a pregnant woman in her twenties and her encounter with a female demon- like creature, popularly known as Jokhini in Assamese legends and folklore.
Malaya, a twenty seven years old woman, who is married to the love of her life Maharnav, is pregnant with their first child. She is often left to dwell in her veil of solitude throughout her pregnancy journey and is often met with disturbing thoughts and hallucinations
The story takes a dark turn when the age-old animosity between two legends, the Jokhini and the demon comes into light and the uncanny repercussions that follows.
About Jokhini:
"যখিনী" is a ghost from Assamese folklore.
It is believed that during rainy season she gets naked and climbs up to a tree just to make fun of Indra and That's why we can see lightening falling on the tall trees as Indra attempts to strike her.
It is believed that a woman becomes a jokhini if she does with her unfulfilled desires .
It is said that Jokhini visits a pregnant lady to steal her child from her . In many places , reports of having someone standing next to the pregnant lady is heard. Many told me that they had seen shadows under the door and unusually knockings at night wherever the pregnant lady is sleeping.
Many believes that Jokhini tries to lure men and kill them.

As per as i understood, she only saw the jokhoni only after he said he wanted a boy child it was an internal conflicts of the mind that creates the illusion of jokhini if we relate to real life , it show how girl child are not wellcomed but thr conflict of the women creates the jokhoni her instictive mind says he will not well come her ( the words of jokhoni) and the other emotions side won't accept it at the end her husband kill his baby daughter and ate her up and unknowingly the women had also did which if related to present day show that women out of their husband pressure accept but live in gulity

Finally, a creative mind who made my childhood dream come true. Whenever I used to watch Japanese or English horror movies with excellent stories inspired from local folktales or events, I'd wonder when someone will finally adapt our Assamese folktales and stories that I read in books like "Bhoot, Bhootonir Xadhu" as a child, with amazing actors, background score and storytelling.
P.s. I've been a big time horror genre fan & now all here for Assamese folktales with amazing screen presence.

I have born & brought up in Mayong..Mayong is claimed to be the land of Black Magic..I have heard many tales regarding Jokhini,Jin,Bira,Dighol Thengiya (A creature with long legs) & Many more..My grandfather was Ojha so villagers often comes to met grandfather at midnight to keep those creature away & I also goes along with my grandfather to see those creatures "Bhoot". So I can relate this story very well..Some says Jokhoni still exist.

It meaningfully connects the Assamese prestigious folklore culture and yet pierces the resemblance of the demons of today's society.
