    Hello friends
Shri Krishna Janmashtami, also known simply as Janmashtami, is a Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna, who is considered one of the most revered deities in Hinduism. Lord Krishna is believed to be the eighth avatar (incarnation) of Lord Vishnu, the preserver of the universe, and is often depicted as a divine child, a mischievous youth, and a wise teacher.
The festival typically falls on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) in the month of Bhadrapada (usually in August or September) of the Hindu lunar calendar. It is widely celebrated across India and by Hindus around the world with great enthusiasm and devotion.
Here are some common customs and traditions associated with Janmashtami:
    1. *Fasting:* Many devotees observe a fast on this day, which may involve abstaining from food and water until midnight when Lord Krishna is believed to have been born. Some people may choose to consume only fruits and milk during their fast.
    2. *Puja (Worship):* Devotees perform special puja rituals in temples and their homes. This includes bathing the deity's idol or image of Lord Krishna, adorning it with new clothes and jewelry, and offering various items such as sweets, fruits, and flowers.
    3. *Midnight Celebration:* The birth of Lord Krishna is believed to have occurred at midnight. Temples and devotees often organize grand celebrations and bhajans (devotional songs) that continue late into the night, culminating in the moment of Krishna's birth.
    4. *Dahi Handi:* In the western Indian state of Maharashtra and some other regions, a popular tradition called "Dahi Handi" is observed. Young men form human pyramids to break a pot filled with curd, which is suspended at a great height. This reenacts a playful childhood activity of Lord Krishna, who was known for stealing butter and curd.
    5. *Decorations:* Many people decorate their homes and temples with colorful rangoli (decorative patterns) and hang swings to symbolize Krishna's childhood pastime of swinging.
    6. *Singing and Dancing:* Devotees often sing bhajans and devotional songs in praise of Lord Krishna. Traditional dances, such as the Ras Lila, may also be performed to depict the divine love and playful activities of Lord Krishna.
    7. *Distribution of Prasad:* Devotees prepare special dishes, especially sweets like "makhana" (puffed lotus seeds), "panjiri" (a sweet made with wheat flour and sugar), and "kheer" (rice pudding), to distribute as prasad (blessed food) after the puja.
    8. *Reading Scriptures:* Some devotees engage in reading and listening to the Bhagavad Gita and other scriptures associated with Lord Krishna.
Janmashtami is a time for reflection, devotion, and joyous celebrations. It serves as a reminder of the divine presence of Lord Krishna and his teachings of righteousness, love, and duty as described in the Bhagavad Gita. The festivities vary from region to region but share a common theme of devotion and reverence for Lord Krishna.
