Beautifully said, Mike. A couple years ago I had made decent gains in the gym, had ~20% BF, and enjoyed lifting, but it didn't last because I knew there was no virtue I was trying to cultivate by doing it. I was just worried about looking good, and nothing else. I stayed away from the gym for a while because I would rather have stayed away than done activities that I knew were only being done for vanity. Only in the last year or so have I begun to realize how spiritual virtue and physical fitness dovetail together. I'm still trying to get down to the coveted 15% body fat, and it is difficult, believe me, because my body seems to fight that last 10% or so. Having lived around Amish farmers before, I realize how naturally their work and lifestyle - the kind we all would have lived before industrialization - makes them some of the healthiest and leanest people I've ever seen. The fake re-creation of physical demands that we have to create in the gym is second rate, and doesn't compare to simply living a lifestyle where physical fitness comes as a natural consequence of trying to make a living. Modernity has made this physical ideal much harder, so it is our generation's cross to bear to go out of our way to be challenged so that we may be made holier - and healthier - in the process.
Thanks man. And agreed, those last few are always the hardest. Worth clawing for. Some lessons in there spiritually too. But you nailed it with your assessment here.
@@MikePantile Thank you, from you that means a lot. I'm really pleased to have found you and Tim Gordon on TH-cam. Finally, Catholic men that are rough around the edges AND holy!
Bro please keep these videos coming, it’s great stuff. Just a video idea cause a lot of us dudes are struggling out here, but a dating advice video would be appreciated! And like just good ole practical advice like a good first date, what to look for, how long to date until marriage, etc. Just an idea but either way love the vids so far!
I couldn't agree more with being physically which helps to be spiritually fit as well. The two compliment each other immensely. If you are physically fit I believe it gives you a better state for the Holy Spirit to come into you to give you zeal for the glory of God, you are a better host so to speak. It's hard to articulate however, my point is that being physically fit is your base to launch yourself into the world as productively as possible.
3 meals a day. Between 2900-3500 cals per day depending on the cycle I’m in (bulk, cut, etc). The good old fashioned staples. Ground beef, chicken breast/thigh, lean turkey for protein. Protein bars, shakes and Greek yogurt mixed in there. Carbs are always potatoes, or rice. Cereal and the occasional sweet if I’m trying to push weight up or enjoy myself. Super basic haha. Minimum 200g protein per day.
Physical Reps (weights, sports, walking, sprints, house labor, etc) AND Spiritual Reps (Mass, Eucharist, Sacraments, Adoration, Rosary, devotions, etc).
Boom. This is the way.

Agreed with everything except the whole “plates” thing lol.
Hey Mike - this may be off topic, but how many meals do you eat a day and what does your diet look like?

When he is referring to the amount of plates per exercise. Is he referring to single rep heavy weight lift or for reps?
1RM
