    Good video, i just recently got a 03' 525i and with this channel i learned a lot. Also be careful who/where you take you're vehicle to get serviced. I'm fairly certain nobody has those ecs rubber jack pieces.

    I dont know if it already exist, but an idea to a video or article: The different options/equipment on the e39.
    Great video btw!

      I've considered such an article, but the options list is HUGE from 1997-2003 and different options were available for different markets at different times. It would require a ton of research.

      @@mrmick12321 It would be neat to have it all in one place. Unfortunately I am not at all compensated for the time it would take to do that, which could be serval days of gathering information.

    Great video. Question regarding rear jack stand placement - my rear jacking points are rusted, so am wondering where else I can place jack stands after jacking from the diff. Thanks.

      @E39Source  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unless the rear jack stand spots are REALLY bad, they are probably the best place to put the stands still. I have never used other places for stands.

      @Ash They often collapse when you go to jack up the car using the factory supplied jack, and more than often before you discover the hidden rust.

      My rear jack point just got crushed a few hours ago. My jack went inside the rockerpanel.and i now have dent in the skirt. I got lucky that my safety jack was in place. And safed my legs. Guys be carefull. I think its way safer to use the diff and front center jack point, As ryan showed. Do NOT trust the side jack points, mine showed no sign of failing. But rust did take them out from the inside.

    Hey, I was hoping you would show how to jack up the engine on one side - in my case it would be the driver's side of an V8 (535iA). Need to replace the power steering hose from the steering box to the oil cooler and I just can't get to the bolt... Part number 32411094205

    • @E39Source
      @E39Source  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a fun job.. good luck. To jack the engine, I would release the motor mounts where they bolt to the subframe (2 13mm nuts on each mount), and then use a piece of wood to distribute the load from the jack on the corner of the oil pan (strongest part). If you need to raise it more than 2 inches or so, you'll want to remove the fan and fan clutch so it doesn't hit the fan shroud.

    What is the best way to keep the car from moving when jacking up the back (from the differential, etc.). Since to my knowledge the parking brake only applies to the rear wheels, would I need to put wheel chalks in front of the front wheels? Or is there some other way

    • @E39Source
      @E39Source  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On totally flat ground, this should not be a concern. I would recommend chalking the front wheels though- maybe one chalk in-front of and behind one of the front wheels.
