I also didn't realize that the original actor as Roger had already left by the end of 1983. Perhaps, that was a sad precursor of what was to come. "Loving" kept many of the original characters but recasting them over and over certainly didn't help the ratings or its future. I appreciate this step back in time. Thanks so much for posting these gems. :)
This was the best soap in the world to me, because I was actually able to watch it from the very beginning. The Jack/Lily D..I.D storyline was my favorite- watching the good Lily with Jack and her alter (bad Lily) with Curtis Alden. She could play the good girl/ bad bitch just as good as OLTL's Jess/Tess... Does anyone have any more clips from 1983-84? I miss Loving at that time the most.
Your mother was tremendous....I was fortunate to meet her once at a fan party & also at the EDGE OF NIGHT studios....both times she was lovely & gracious.
@kidsareallrightbook You should be very proud of the legacy that your mom left. Watching this clip showed how strong of an actress that she was. You came from one heck of a great woman. RIP Ann Williams.
I couldn't watch "Loving" by this time due to being in school. However, I really liked the original Curtis, Christopher Mantel. He was so deliciously conniving. I didn't realize he had a relationship with Lily and just from reading the previous comments, I didn't know that Lily had a dual personality. I only had seen the sweet Lily in the very early episodes.
Jack and Lily? Or Jack and Stacey? This could have been a decades old love triangle like Rachel/Steve/Alice of "Another World" or Phil/Tara/Chuck of "All My Children"...I wonder why Jennifer Ashe's Lily was ushered out within a year of "Loving".
Loving was the first tv show to address incest...in 83 abc prime time put Ted Danson in a movie of the week "Something About Amelia" so in order to claim that this was the first time ever on tv. LOVING WAS ORDERED BY THE NETWORK TO STOP THE STORY IMMEDIATELY...SO LILY'S FATHER WAS MURDERED, HER MOTHER DID SO SHE WENT OFF TO JAIL AND LILLY WENT TO THE FUNNY FARM AND IT WAS NEVER DISCUSSED AGAIN. SO NOW WHEN THE TED DANSON MOVIE CAME OUT THEY COULD SAY THEY IT WAS THE FIRST TIME EVER ON TV
@@mikemercado5223one problem guiding light already beat ABC to it with the Beth Raines Bradley Raines Phillip Spaulding incest story line and it pissed Douglas Marland off. that's one of the reasons why he left in 1985 as headwriter and Co executive producer and ohh it was mentioned again when Ralph Ellis a later headwriter had the dumb idea to bring lily slater out of the funny farm and seduce jack forbes to break up him and Stacy's marriage in a, stubid ridiculuos storyline with Britt helfer playing lily slater who is in real life Robert newmans wife meanwhile Doug Marland who hated what he had to write and stopping that story took jenifer ashe to atwt to play meg Snyder and told jenefer ashe what happened as, she had no idea at the time what ABC did it was when she went to atwt that Doug Marland told her what happened. As she was just told one day ohh we are letting you go without explanation. Doug Marland never forgave ABC for that he did not like to be crossed or have his stories messed with period ABC did not learn the Alan potter lesson from guiding light don't mess with Doug Matland or his stories period.
Ann Williams was one of daytime drama's best actresses. I especially enjoyed her performances as Margo on EON.

Ryan's Hope was plagued by the same problem constant recasting of characters

I think the vampy Lily called herself "Trista".
