      We've all made poor decisions in Uni. My housemate shagged my other housemates girl at the end of year carnival. Another time we scorched our table by putting a disposable barbeque on it, and I bought all of the original Hellsing anime and a Naruto Wall Scroll at once for over £100.
      Anyway, my point is, when you're in Uni, warning signs like the words "procedurally generated", "first person stealth mechanics" and "a shopping list of stretch goals that there is no way we can possibly fulfill with our current staffing if they're met" just don't register like they do with us now.

      Honestly? The Fuss is alive and well. America's proven surprisingly resilient to 1984-style faccism. It's the other, less famous kinda faccism that's the problem. I forget the dude's name, but he posited a 24/7 entertainment masquerading as news that he imagined would break western civilization, and when the internet bubble finally trickled down to the hoosiers, that grim prophecy of the future came true and society still doesn't really have a game plan for dealing with it. I guess a few social media platforms banned a few Russian bots or something? But nobody's really pushing back against the broader trend, businesses nor consumers.

      That was definitely one of the more interesting aspects of the game. Pity there weren't more really.
      It was also a plot element used in other dystopian pieces like Children of Men and to a degree V for Vendetta.
      More than anything the game is something of a rip off of the 1980s Doctor Who story "The Happiness Patrol" where a dictatorial regime keeps a Human colony in a state of enforced saccharine happiness and outlaws any display of sadness and depression. The "killjoys" who won't comply with the enforced frivolity are either disappeared by the state or are driven out into the wildernesses beyond the cities. It's definitely one of the better Dr Who stories, in concept if not necessarily in execution. Curiously to link to Yahtzee's video, the story contains a straight up parody of Margaret Thatcher running the regime!

      I've read Jam and it's overall a really entertaining book, it managed to drive a narrative that was both coherent and goofy at the same time, it had some good jocks and poked fun to the post-apocalyptic genre; overall I would recommend it as a worthwhile read
      I don't know about the other ones but Moggworld is generally viewed as its weakest, "Will save the galaxy for food" and "differently morphous" had good review overall and because they were written after Jam expect at least the same level of quality if not better
      His books are all similar in style, they work as parodies of a certain genre while poking fun at real-life groups in a story filled with inventive situations and charismatic characters, so choose what you prefer : MMORPG/fantasy parody (Moggworld), post-apocalyptic world parody (Jam), sci-fi parody (Will save the galaxy) or fantastic in contemporan world parody (differently morphous)
      Also be mindful that even if Yathzee's style is still clearly recognizable the humor is much different than the one in ZP, and that his goal is to make a story unfold before making jokes

There are two main categories (and two smaller ones), but the only real choice between the main categories is the good one and the bad one. The categories are combat and stealth, but there isn't much of an opportunity to use stealth and even if there is you can beat people to death anyways. Meanwhile, you will be forced into scripted battles which screws you over if you decided to go the stealth route.

      Francine Mcloughlin They struck "The Patriarchy" = Merit based hierarchies in Western nations, not Islamic with Ghostbusters, 3 Star Wars movies, much TV News indoctrination, and oppression narrative lies. Like the reasons for the Wage Gap, 3/5 Women in America being Raped in their lives, 21 Million Women being abused online. All Lies. They're trying to subvert the Culture to benefit them, not obtain equality. To control the way everyone thinks. By banning words, replacing them with New-Speak- like how they say Diversity instead of the truth of Black and Brown people. Side note: How is the term African-American not a bit racist and very divisive?
      Humans used to live in a Communist/Socialist like state before we understood economic systems like we do today. Progressives say that such economic policies are the future when in fact Capitalism came after Socialism. People need linear motivations to work their hardest. Paying everyone the same gives people no incentive to work as hard as they can, which will be more or less productive than other people naturally. It's social engineering and inhumane to penalize people based on arbitrary feelings of fairness instead of giving them what they have legally earned through free market contracts and voluntary transactions. Principles over feels, bruh.
      Let's get scientific. Women produce and release testosterone from their adrenal glands to their brains when needing to focus on high cognitive tasks such as fast paced/competitive gaming. After days of being in situations of high stress Women may break down because they can't keep producing testosterone to focus. They start producing adrenaline and will eventually fall apart mentally if they do not leave that stressful environment. Men naturally have an advantage over Women in prolonged settings of stressful situations because off this. Among other things. Like Men having generally 10% larger brains than Women, across all races.
      Obama had the same exact policies when in office. The Media did nothing. Trump ended the family separation with an executive order temporarily like he's supposed to. The President is not supposed to make laws with executive orders. He did exactly what he's supposed to legally. Those laws were passed by Democrats, not Republicans. We had those laws because we can't instantly confirm whether these children are being trafficked by the adult they are with. Do you really think it's better for children to be imprisoned with possibly dangerous adult criminals? Or with just other kids for a short time? We didn't force them into this situation. It's these peoples responsibility to make their country great, not rely on White people while saying Mexico and Latinos are the best. There were many "La Raza" or "The Race" believing people that were in the Migrant Caravan that headed for the US border months ago causing these problems.
      American Men have to sign up for the Draft to Vote. That's not Equality. We've never Legally had Gender Equality in America. But because it disadvantages Men and benefits Whamen, they keep quiet about it, and even lie about it, about their vision of Equality. Wage Gap lies. Because Feminism isn't about Equality. Now, instead of projecting and continuing the cycle of hate that's enveloped Western Cultures, form an argument. Read my Copy/Paste in a reply to a comment on my funny video. ;)
      Voluntary charity is moral. Socialism uses Government force to redistribute resources, you will be jailed if you do not give them money.
      This is a short discussion I had in a comments section of one of The Daily Wire's video. This is the discussed paragraph. The rest are below.
      Humans used to live in a Communist/Socialist like state before we understood economic systems like we do today. Progressives say that such economic policies are the future when in fact Capitalism came after Socialism. People need linear motivations to work their hardest. "UntamedPandaSweg I agree with most of what you said here. But your statement that humans used to exist in a Communist/Socialist way is way off the mark, how you can substantiate it would be interesting, but not likely any more than anecdotal, with the odd examples of where it was tried and abandoned in abject failure. The original pilgrim enclaves were somewhat socialist but many failed completely, as the truth of human nature, includes sloth, sense of entitlement and thirst for power and control. I’m pushing 70, in the 60’s...the whole “Commune” sex, drugs, rock n roll, free love thing sounded pretty cool. But then experience shows ya that the dude gettin high all day, making tie-dyed t-shirts, is entitled to the same as the mechanic busting his ass and knuckles all day, keeping the communes equipment running...sorta makes ya rethink your positions and priorities. Turned me into a hardcore capitalist, second amendment “nut-job”, willing to fight to keep what my bloody knuckles had earned. Yeah, I support freedom of choice, and I CHOOSE to keep the product of my labor and the “right” to choose if and with whom I’ll “share”. By my mentions of freedom of choice, I DIDN’T mean abortion...just to clarify. ✌️🍻🇺🇸🍕🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸"

      "Jon Smith Happy 4th of July! It's a malformed abomination of an argument. I know that. A lot of History is murky, and more importantly we will never know what people thought/why they really did most things. Time for an excuse. Not much time to study History when I need to know everything about World Politics daily. I like to think about how early Humans treated resources as a society, the concept interests me. I theorize Humans before Civilization lived in a more socialistic fashion, technically they were more communist than anyone will ever be again from there not even being the idea of Government, because they didn't have the ideas that people do now of things like the Right to Private Property, and because they literally had to live like that, to survive as a species. They just had their feelings for guidance. There's been studies on how people eating together will subconsciously eat about the same amount of food as the other people eating with them if they're sharing from the same restricted food source. This is a big spur to guide my thinking to propose Socialism and Communism had their uses and aren't inherently evil. They're regressive ideas."

    I think the procedurally generated world was really just a way to make the world different for each of the three acts. To hammer home the fact that all three characters are extremely unreliable narrators. It was less for the gameplay and more for the narrative.
    It's still essentially just a way to make the devs job easier, they just have to make parts of town rather than the whole town three times.

    Ah yes. This is the moment we get to see Yahtzee's old British side come out.
    He may live in the colonies, and have been temporarily lived on that prison island. But his core Britishness still shines through.

      And because he started the review "it's not as bad as everyone say it is"...said something nice about the game, then started tearing apart everything wrong with the game hoping it gets patch in the future.

      I never said that it was a completely positive review. He fully acknowledged all of the game's problems yet he still recommended it. All things considered he wasn't all that harsh with "We Happy Few" especially if you consider some of his past reviews.

    • @tomstonemale
      @tomstonemale 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh sure, I meant gggmanlives review was a bit disingenuous starting with "not as bad people say it is". Even negative reviews acknowledge the game has good things, but overshadow by the bad parts. At the very least the first statement is unnecessary and it's quickly undermined by everything objectively wrong with the game.

    Actually Brave New World is not a specifically british dystopian novel, the locations differ in every translation, e.g. if you read it it in german the setting would be Berlin, including mentions of real districts like Kreuzberg. That was done purposely in order to emphasize on the narrative theme of a global society that has no concept of culture, tradition or national identity .
    It´s quite ingenious really, I wouldn´t have noticed if I hadn´t read it in german and english - it becomes much more relevant to you as a reader because they mention the Capital of your home country, yet it´s compeletely interchangeable, as evidenced by the character´s names. Be it London, Berlin or Tokyo, it´s Alphas and Betas and Soma no matter where.

      Is it a free game? Hmm, no, I see a price tag, even a "Deluxe" edition. I also see they received funding from multiple sources.
      I'm sorry, your argument doesn't hold up. Feel free to send me $29.99 to $50.99. I'm also a small team and I can release sub-par quality products as well!

    • @diegodiego3164
      @diegodiego3164 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No need to get all defensive about it, im not saying it's a good game, im saying you can't really blame them.
      And having lots of money doesn't change deadlines, plus you don't really know how much the company actually gave to the developers, nor if the decision to do a deluxe version was theirs.

    • @frealms
      @frealms 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not being defensive, it's being realistic. Yes, you can really blame them.
      Doesn't change deadlines... but you can hire people to speed things up? Do more in less time? Novel concept, I know. Again you go white knighting for these strangers, talking as if they are poor, defenseless babies in the wild. Did they read the contract before signing? So again, yes, their actions, their problem.
      Why is it that people today think everyone is a victim that can't be held to account for their actions? No wonder games (and products) in general are becoming more and more shittier. Customers who used to hold creators to account now just pat them on the head and toss more money at them.
      Pro tip: These guys won't improve if all you say is "You did your best, have my money". Criticism is a very important part of personal growth.

    My biggest issue was that the story wasn't good, and the 'bad thing' while it was bad, was also weak and far fetch which I can say kindly about it. Design wise the masks and 60's feel is great but the story bothers me especially as it's alternative timeline. Would monty python and other past pop culture references and material be relevant to the characters in the game given britain lost ww2? It just seems odd and not immersive for the player for characters and the game to reference material that shouldn't exist in their history.

    • @elsie8757

      _Did_ Britain really lose WWII though? I got the impression that the rest of the world was more-or-less fine and it was only Wellington Wells that f*cked up (part of the reason they isolate themselves being that they refuse to acknowledge anything that reminds them of The Thing, up to and including the outside world itself).
