    The only ones that looked practical enough for actual production were the airships. You just have to be patient enough to be happy travelling from NYC to London in 2 or 3 days. If it were not too expensive, quiet enough, had comfortable seats which convert to beds, with space to move around, lounge areas and restaurant-style eating, a lot of people would opt for it and it could be commercially successful I think.

    • @robinmclean8779
      @robinmclean8779 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Most educated people are transitioning away from the 'I'm just burning carbon for the fun of it' lifestyle. If we even think about our kids, eschewing the 'Slaycation' is the LEAST we can do. From that perspective, a Zero-Carbon Airship might soon be the ONLY way to get to London, Paris, Rio, Tokyo, Kauai or thousands of others destinations.

    • @retired3437

      I would agree but as an Australian I wonder what the flight time would be to say Sydney selfish I know but it could matter in the end.

    • @jenniferusher5564
      @jenniferusher5564 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@retired3437 They didn't give the speed of the new airships, but they are to be driven by propellers. The HIndenburg's speed was 84 miles per hour, and the new ships would probably be similar, depending on head or tail winds encountered. The air distance from London to Sydney is 10,573 miles, and currently you have to sit in a cramped economy seat for 22 hours of flight time for the journey. Buy a ticket on the new airship and spend almost a week on board. If it's comfortable enough with great views of the ground, good beds, comfortable work areas, fitness facilities and a well-stocked bar with plenty of chilled Coopers, you might enjoy the ride, mate.

    • @jenniferusher5564
      @jenniferusher5564 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@deepspire You're right, of course. They will have to find a way to make hydrogen far safer for airships if airships have a future at all. I hope they do. Just had a 7 hour flight from London to JFK and even though it was in business, it wasn't really comfortable. Photos of accommodations in the Hindenburg looked far superior. There was just the little problem of the fire...

    Concord's demise can be left at the door of French airport housekeeping. The Concord hit debris on the runway which ultimately crashed not just one plane but the whole fleet. A sad but true story.

    • @FLATSWISS

    • @metaspectivate

      A major part was played by the plane that dropped the debris in the first place.

    • @mikedryden3489
      @mikedryden3489 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah but, no but...
      Standard procedure before any Concorde take off was a runway inspection. This didn't take place. If it had, it would have found the part.
      The part that came from the Continental bird wasn't manufactured or installed correctly by the maintenance company. If it had been, it wouldn't have fallen off.
      The tanks weren't penetrated by the tire. The force of the impact ruptured at least one tank and it was downhill from there. This wasn't the first time that happened. If this had been dealt with appropriately, the above may not have matter. I wonder if this was the reason for the need for the runway inspection in the first place.

    Before any of these technologies are realized, we must first address extreme wealth inequality - so that we all can enjoy these things, and not just the wealthy among us.

    Great video for billionaires. They must be excited. It's fun to watch though, even if it is for the playground of the rich only. Btw, are there ANY upcoming technologies that will help All of humanity that us non billionaires would care about? Maybe that can be your next video.

    The "Flying Hotel" was exposed as phony long ago. What it actually was was a CGI project created by a computer graphics student.
    And I've said before, if I COULD MAKE CGI footage I'd have my cat sprout wings and go chasing flying fish in my landlocked backyard.
    AND there'd be people stupid enough to ask me for one of my flying cats kittens when it had them!

    Hydrogen is not dangerous as lifting gas in Airships, no more than gasoline in the cars.
    The problem with Hindenburg was that it was designed for helium, hence it didn't have all safety features like conducting, metalized (antistatic) materials for internal balloons.
    Helium airships were also burning.

    A more practical and affordable flying car is currently under development, and was successfully test flown in November 2023: the Switchblade, by Samson of Redmond, Oregon. It's a hybrid electric sports car that has retractable wings and rear propellors. It can be driven as a car to a community airport, where it would take off, then land at another community airport, then become a car again and drive to the final destination. Its cruising speed is to be 160 MPH, top speed 200 MPH, with a range of 450 miles. The price is to be considerably less than the flying car described here, c. $170,000.
