- Alex Bevan & Friends Recorded live at the Cleveland Agora in 1977. I just used pictures I already had on my hard drive. Sorry I didn't own a pic of Alex. In the words of Alex, "I'm not as skinny as I use to be" ;)
Sorry about the spelling errors on title. Duh. It took 50 minutes to load and I really don't have time right now. Its really just about the song.
The best time ever to be a Clevelander and Ohioan. MSB, Joe Walsh, Ital, Davey Fields, Alex, John Bassett- the music was amazing the Browns were Cardiac Kids and you could get a bleacher seat at the old stadium for a buck and they gave you a Cheap Seat Elite t shirt. And of course Friday salute you didnt even need a radio to hear it because everyone had WMMS on and the windows down. The Home of the Buzzard - Born to Run, Murray Saul, and Friday on my Mind by Earthquake. What a gewat time to be alive. In 1977 I was a sophmore at Kent State working at Rays Place and Mothers Junction.
Truth be told though- I am never going to qualify for the skinny part😊.
Haven't been home in many years. I miss WMMS, Kid Leo and the Friday night at 6:00 thing. I miss Jeff and Flash, the Blossom Music Center, the Richfield Coliseum, the Agora, and so much more. I was 9 in '64 when the Browns won the championship with Jim Brown, Leroy Kelly and Frank Ryan. We couldn't always get the games on tv, so we'd watch the Quarterback Club with Blanton Collier. Most of all, I miss my youth and my parents. Cleveland rocks!!!
Put this man in the Hall of fame
Yeah, His Guitar is there, but Why isn't ALEX BEVAN Cleveland's Troubadour still at it in 2024 50 years later.
Thank you .
That's When ROCK N' ROLL WAS TRUE ROCK ROLL ALEX BEVAN, MICHAEL STANLEY !
Amazing it has been 17 years since I last saw any part of Cleveland.Yet this silly song still keeps popping into my head.Pehaps it is because I still am a Skinny Little Boy from Cleveland Ohio who caught me A woman and downed more than enough beers. No change just a little older & wiser.
When the City had a soul and an unique identity. Lived there from '77 to '83 and some days still miss it. Browns fan win or lose since I could hold a football!
Now the city is a shit hole, take it from someone near midtown
Thanks so much for posting this! I grew up in Cleveland and moved to Atlanta 10 years ago...I spent many days of my wild youth on that river and up on the islands...soooooo homesick
Great songs Alex! In 77 I was in LA Welding.
I was class of '77 and my girl friend and I went to see you down at the Metro Parks on one of our first dates and we just celebrated 33 years of marriage! I too was a Skinny Lil Boy from Cleveland Ohio.... Now I am an OLD Skinny Lil Boy from Cleveland Ohio LOL !!!
I ran into Alex last summer...still a total smart-ass!!! And therefore, still representing us Clevelanders. Nice seeing you at Lauries and Steve's at PIB, Alex...Paula
Hey Alex.....I know you've probably heard this before, but from one old lifelong Clevelander to another, I'd like to thank you for writing and performing what clearly is the consummate Cleveland anthem...."Skinny Little Boy From Cleveland, Ohio". All these years later, it's still the timeless classic song of this city that expresses this town's spirit and love of rock and roll.
OUTSTANDING!!!!!
Love the 1812 infantry dude with the Charleville musket at 2:34. I grew up in Perrysburg, class of '85, re-enacted the War of 1812 at Fort Meigs.
Wife from Bradner, we been in Colorado since '94.
GO MUD HENS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love Alex, Love the Agora, LOVE CLEVELAND, Love Ohio, and thanks for the reminder! Michael '71
Good Lord that brings back a flood of memories! My Dad used to dance with me to this song when I was a little girl. I have the 45, it still plays good. GREAT post, Thank you!!!

I can't tell you how good that sounds. Its been over 30 years since I heard it last.
This version was well worth the wait.
Thanks so much for sharing.
This is fantastic!- makes this not so skinny girl who moved away terribly homesick! You wouldn't by chance have a copy of Grand River Lullaby? I lost my copy some years back and would love to hear it again.
Great song...class of '77, Maple Hts! (Sandy Porter)
Great Pictures. Happy people and Drew Carey! CLE rocks just like my buddy Alex.
SKINNY
Alex Bevan
Shazam! Feelin' grand, guess I'll mosey into town
Raise hell all around, I'm gonna have a good time
Damn! You bet I am, gonna boogie till I'm blind
I got a quart a dollar wine ta get myself primed
Runnin' down the road I got the back tires smokin'
The highway's open, not a cop in sight
No red light flashin's gonna hamper my action
My path is clear and my timing's right
Cause I'm a Skinny little boy from Cleveland Ohio
Come to chase your women and drink your beer
Second gear down main street and roarin' into town
Women grab your children, bolt the doors and shut her down
They're peekin' out from windows while the menfolk pray
They speak in frightened whispers and the weak ones faint
Is it a bird, is it a plane, is it a demon in the air
Or a fire breathin' baby eatin' mother beatin' bear
Is it murder, is it rape, is it the watergate tapes
Or a mere hallucination caused by folks from outer space
No it's a Skinny little boy from Cleveland Ohio
Come to chase your women and drink your beer
Oh my, and here you are, you see him stride into the bar
He's got a girl on every arm and two or three to spare
Yeah, ain't he neat, dressed to kill from head to feet
The tavern quiets down, the people stare in disbelief
He's got chrome plated platforms nine inches high
Batteries in the sole with neon lights on the side
A patent leather jacket with a picture on the back
It's Marilyn in the nude with some writing on her ass
It says Skinny little boy from Cleveland Ohio
He's come to chase your women and drink your beer
Stand aside from the bar if you haven't come to drink
You throw your water in the sink and give me whiskey in my glass
The bourbon tastes mean but it sure beats listerine
Gets your breath twice as clean, and high twice as fast
Run out of Wild Turkey, Jack Daniels is fine
Keep your Gin and tonic, your old ripple wine
Tequila and a pinch or even vodka's all right
I got a ringin' in my ears and a burnin' in my eyes
And I'm a Skinny little boy from Cleveland Ohio
Come to drink your women and chase your beer
So people now you know my story and you're aware of my curse
Of how this decent model citizen was changed by lust and thirst
You take heed of my warning, you walk the straight and narrow trail
You shun the gaily painted ladies, bright lights and booze as well
Or you'll be sittin' all alone watching TV home in bed
Your skin'll start to prickle and your hands'll start to sweat
You'll reach for the bottle just as sure as I stand
You'll raise it to your lips, you'll take a drink and then Shazam!
You're a Skinny little boy from Cleveland Ohio
You go chasin' down the women and drinkin' up the beer
Thanks Alex, I had it on a cassette with most of the concert for over 30 years and thought it was to good not to share.
Been there. . . done that!!!!
I helped build the ferry at 2:51, Miller Boat Line's Islander, designed by John W. Gilbert & Assoc of Boston and built by G&W Industries in '82-'83 on Carter Road in the flats.
