    This really helps, if we repeat after each example and try to do it. We’ll see the difference, I’m native Spanish speaker and after I tried my mouth was hurting me. Thank you very much and this is the best channel I’ve ever seen to master my pronunciation.

    That's quite interesting that you said in the video that the /f/ is not the most difficult sound to make, so it kind of made me wonder, what are the most difficult consonants to make?
    What would be your version of say "top 5 most difficult consonants to make"?

    You compared the words half and have. Is it correct if the end sounds(f and v) will be pronounced the same way in fast speech?

    • @SoundsAmerican
      @SoundsAmerican  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      If you pronounce them the same way, you'll be making one of the most common pronunciation mistakes. The /f/ is a voiceless sound, but the /v/ is a voiced one. The voiced sounds should never be devoiced in English. Next week we're going to publish a video on the /v/ sound, stay tuned!👋

    Hey there! Is the schwa if the "ful" endings also silent? E.g. colorful, plentiful, cheerful, tasteful, etc..

    • @SoundsAmerican
      @SoundsAmerican  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's easier for our students to pronounce a vowel (the schwa sound) in the '-ful' suffix.

    • @randomdude7384
      @randomdude7384 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SoundsAmerican is it okay if I skip it?

    • @SoundsAmerican
      @SoundsAmerican  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, if you manage. We believe that the schwa in this suffix is really brief. The thing is that the /fl/ cluster in the '-ful' suffix is pronounced in a slightly different way compared to the /fl/ cluster in the initial position of words, like in "flirt" or "flower." The /l/ in the '-ful' suffix is a dark one, so we feel like there can easily be a brief schwa sound before it.
      Hope it helps!

    • @randomdude7384
      @randomdude7384 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SoundsAmerican I understand, is it mandatory to pronounce the dark /l/ instead of the regular one?

    • @SoundsAmerican

      No, not mandatory, however, the dark /l/ would be "more American." 😊

      Nice video, thanks! Dark L, please)

    • @SoundsAmerican
      @SoundsAmerican  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1) This is not the Russian letter 'ф'. This is an International Phonetic Alphabet symbol /ɸ/ for the voiceless bilabial fricative sound.
      2) The /ɸ/ and the /f/ are two different sounds.
      3) Of course we pronounce this sound incorrectly, but we're trying our best.
      4) As far as we know, Russian language has both the /ɸ/ and the /f/ sounds. The problem is that Russian speakers often choose a wrong sound when speaking English.

    • @user-wo3yf6oi2l
      @user-wo3yf6oi2l 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Qedd Vbjh , не сказал бы. Никогда не произносил 'ф' так, как он, и никогда не слышал, чтобы кто-нибудь ещё это делал так же. Может быть это зависит уже от самих людей или местоположения, а не от языка.
