The thing is that the /fl/ cluster in the '-ful' suffix is pronounced in a slightly different way compared to the /fl/ cluster in the initial position of words, like in "flirt" or "flower." The /l/ in the '-ful' suffix is a dark one, so we feel like there can easily be a brief schwa sound before it. Hope it helps!

This is an International Phonetic Alphabet symbol /ɸ/ for the voiceless bilabial fricative sound. 2) The /ɸ/ and the /f/ are two different sounds. 3) Of course we pronounce this sound incorrectly, but we're trying our best. 4) As far as we know, Russian language has both the /ɸ/ and the /f/ sounds. The problem is that Russian speakers often choose a wrong sound when speaking English.

It's easier for our students to pronounce a vowel (the schwa sound) in the '-ful' suffix.
