UPDATE: I state in the video that there are 24 pieces blocks in the border. That is incorrect. There are 22. But... there isn't a real great way to fix that without deleting and redoing the whole thing... so... just know I'm aware. :)

Little did I know, I’m doing the same organization process for a MBM project. I didn’t have time last year to make the blocks so I cut all the pieces, block by block, clipped all the pieces together and put them into a project sleeve. The quilt from 2023 is now ready to be assembled. I stumbled onto your channel today too, associated with Lori Holt. I love your voice and simplicity of your explanations. 🌸🩷🩷🩷🌸

I love the alphabetize and number the blocks. I’ve always numbered the quilt blocks as soon as I print my guides. I put my fabrics by color, print out another sheet of the cuts for each fabric, Cut the sheet by fabrics and clip them to the fabrics. That way if I stop cutting I just know where I’m at when I resume my cutting. I also print out another quilt picture and cut out the blocks so as I cut I just clip them to the picture. At the end of my cutting I add them to plastic sturdy envelopes with the picture on the outside. I’m so glad they stared putting the guides with largest size cuts first! Loving your organizing tips. Thank you Lora

Love your ideas of clipping the blocks to the pieces. I may have to add that step. :)

@@lorabrinkman it really helps keep things organized. I used your alphabetize by blocks yesterday for the how to build a scarecrow and I referred to it while I was cutting enough that I will be doing that to all my appliqué quilts. Thanks again. ~Martha

Just discovered your channel. TH-cam popped it up as “recommended” after I’d watched a couple of Lori Holt “Bee Prepared” videos. I purchased the Calico Garden kit from FQS when it was released in early 2023, but I am just now feeling confident enough to give it a go. Your videos, I’ve watched a few now, have given me some great ideas for organizing things. Your method of storing the Sew Simple Shapes will definitely happen in my home! I’m still not sure that I’m up for doing all of the cutting in advance, instead of block by block, but you certainly make it seem like the way to go. I’m a cross stitcher, too, so I’ve definitely subscribed to your channel. Thanks for all the great content.

Lora I like your system a lot. I get in trouble when I start a quilt like that one. But looking at how you organize your fabrics, I think it must save a lot of time. I found that using your method of preparing all the blocks must be less confusing. I am going to try it for sure. Thank you for taking all this time to share with us. Have a good day tomorrow.

You can do it! I do like having everything sorted and packaged up beforehand. It shows me to just grab and sew each week when blog posts arrive.

Thanks for sharing your process. I'm actually just starting to work on HomeTown block 1 - from last year - but since I don't have the fabric kit, I'm probably going to cut each block as I go and ignore the cutting guide as she did it. I did that with Mercantile - and did 3-4 blocks at a time. I then went to sew the blocks, and then did more, etc. I don't have the official fabrics, so I'm just going with colors.

Thanks for sharing with us about getting prepared. You read my mind. I will be doing the Home Town but I don't have the fabric kit so I'm going to use your method of tracing the sew simple shapes and using my fabric. I will probably cut one block at a time and put them on design boards. This is my first attempt of sewing with the sew simple shapes. Love your explanations of your quilt making and your update of your life happenings. If I may ask, without getting to personnel, what are you getting your degree in. I've heard you talk about your classes, so just wondering .

I’m getting ready to start BeeVintage sewalong quilt. (I also have Chicken Salad to do later.)
This is exactly what I needed to see as I start to prepare.
Do you starch your fabrics before cutting? Thanks
