What do you do for conditioning twiggy for event season?

    • @albertaeventer

I usually ride 5 days a week and have a conditioning day once a week where I do trot/canter sets or gallops out in the field. She stays fit pretty easily, perks of being a thoroughbred, haha.

albertaeventer ya I have a shire / TB and I am trying to get into shape for the event season and since she is mostly shire it’s harder for her to keep in shape. So I am trying different ways to keep her in shape and see which ones works the best.

I know of a couple people who event draft crosses and they definitely have to work harder on the conditioning side of things! You can make sure all your flat rides are fairly intensive, that helps a lot for sure, not just having lazy, easy rides with lots of walk breaks. And 2 conditioning days a week is probably more realistic for a horse with less blood.
