I'd like to make it clear that I no longer personally agree with the final message in this video. I was naïve and mistaken on American politics.
EDIT: I do not agree with political violence, I think my disagreements with the final message in the video are quite obviously not based on being pro-political violence suddenly.

Spanish Civil War is still a very controversial and problematic issue in Spain. We still have many arguments between us and I would like to thank you for this video because I think your description was very accurate and you didn't let yourself buy any of the non historical narratives that many use in Spain to simplify and explain a very complex conflict. Basically Communists/Anarchists agitated the populace through their threats of "revolution" (just like in Germany, Italy, France ect.) which lead to the fracturing of society and inevitable war. Yes, I am blaming Anarchists and Communists for practically all of the violence of the 20th century.

Franco ruled Spain for almost 40 years, and that makes him the dictator that has last for more time in power.
He was kinda clever. The king of Morocco said he rather have a toothache than an interview with Franco. One time, he was speaking with him for almost four hours and, after that time, Franco said: look, what you are telling to me cant be possible, and if it can be possible, lets have dinner, Im hungry. Same happened with Hitler. Hitler tryed to convince franco to fight in the WWII, so they met one day. Franco arrived 3 hours after Hitler did, and despaired him so much, he make hitler say: OKAY DONT FIGHT, FUCK YOU.

Kemp was British and volunteered to fight for the nationalist side under Franco, and fought through 37-39. I believe he was with the Requetes, and then the Spanish Foreign Legion. It provided an insight into the war that not many are familiar with, and it truly captures the horror and chaos of that war.

The video is mostly accurate and really informative, but in my opinion, what really doomed Alfonso XIII's reign was his acceptance of Miguel Primo de Rivera's dictatorship from 1923 to 1930. He was a fascist dictator who came to power after a coup, but oddly enough decided to keep the king, Alfonso XIII, instead of becoming the sole leader of Spain. After Primo de Rivera stepped down in 1930, the king tried to mantain the status quo and named other dictators, but failed. He then decided to hold elections, and realising he had lost the support of the people in the major cities, he exiled himself without abdicating the throne in 1931.

My great grandfather was a priest in Madrid from 1925-1935 PRIOR to the civil war officially started he was captured by a left wing group, beaten and murdered. His brother my great uncle joined the Francoist forces in 1936 to avenge his murder. My great grandfather was not the only one to be killed by the leftists during the time, and even prior to the civil war. Franco was supported by American companies such as Texaco, General Motors, Ford, Studebaker. The Republicans were basically left alone with the only help of the USSR and Mexico.
The UK and France didn't want to help them, because they feared that helping the Republic meant supporting the international communist struggle. This clearly points out how the policy of appeasement was aimed to help fascism in its anti-communist crusade. José Maria Doussinague, undersecretary at the Spanish Foreing Ministry, stated that "Without American petroleum, American trucks and American credit we could never have won the Civil War".
If it is clear that Nazism was a product of the Treaty of Versailles and Fascism was born on the false promises of UK and France, it's also clear that those very same governments saw these new ideologies with mixed feelings: a bulkward against bolscevism but also a potential threat to European and global stability.
    Fascism is a capitalist product.

Great video of a war I didn't know a great deal about!
I think we are one economic crisis, natural disaster or famine away from a similar civil war here in the US. Right now most people have enough food and entertainment to satiate themselves, leaving disagreements to social media tirades. However, a major recession or depression and blood could fill the streets. I've never seen so much hatred for their own fellow countrymen as I do today. People despise each other and see two very different courses for the future.

Mexico played a fundamental role in supporting the Republic during and after the Spanish Civil War.
It was the country that most exiles received, between 22,000 and 25,000 Spanish refugees between 1939 and 1942, much during the government of President Lázaro Cárdenas del Río.
Of these refugees it is estimated that "intellectual" or "elite" immigration comprised approximately 25% of the total (approximately 5,500). It also stands out that in greater numbers there were also "competent workers and peasants", as well as military, sailors and pilots, statesmen, economists and businessmen, all of them linked to the Republican government defeated in the war.

The father of my grandma was a republican during the war. He volunteered fought the fascism in Granada. Finally he got married with a girl. Fascist, from right, but they were older and they felt in love. His wife turned a little communist but they followed having their own ideals. They moved to a town where they had two kids. But one day, fascist soldiers came to the town and asked for him because one priest told about him. My grandad was brutally tortured during 3 weeks and killed with other guys in a field 5 years before the war ended. The wife, the mother of my grandma had to move to Barcelona because nobody talked to her or sold her anything still everyone wanted to help her. They were scared. They had to leave everythink to come to Barcelona, literla anything. They lived in the completely poverty in Catalonia. My grandma started working with 6 years. She used to live in the beach in a shitty shanty where her mom had to stay awake all the night to throw out the rats. Late she got a house in the countryside. My father is an engineer. My dad frowned up in a bad neighbourhood and I born in the same neighborhood but we recently moved to a better site. I am always surprised about my grandma. She sometimes talk to me about the war the postwar, Andalusia and his father. She always start crying. But the surprising thing is that she is always so tolerant. She talk to me about this time in a so objective way. I never meet anybody more objective than my grandma and she had an awfully live because the fascism but she still respect this ideology as every other one still she disagree with that and in a deep dawn she hate fascism. I hate when some catalans says that there is no democracy in Spain or when some nationalists say like "with Franco everything was better, Franco did nothing wrong, ARRIBA ESPAÑA"and if I get angry for that I can't imagine my grandma but she never shout or get angry. My grandma always thought her father died because a pneumonia as my father. But now she is happy. I'm so proud of she as anybody I never meet

Trying to explain the complexities of the Spanish Civil War without choosing a side or being biased is an amazing achievement. Well done for this 10 min vid. The moment you go to the next level you are likely to pick a side. It was horrible for the Spanish people, if you take away the politics and beliefs you are just left with the dead. Starting out with 'for the People reforms' without money, look what happens. Spain was ruled by the Ottomans for a very long time and then once a long standing dictatorship is removed, then it takes another in the form of Franco to bring back some form of stability to a fragmented different ideology country. I think international tourism from the 1970s has helped to calm and reform Spain. Us Brits love you and spend much of our money visiting and enjoying your sunshine and weather. The people are so warm and friendly to us.
