One cool detail that was a little glossed over is that Atsumu's crazy set was also a freak quick. Like not only did he get there and stretch enough to get under it and set overhand, he also set a super fast and accurate freak quick toss

Episode 12, Hinata " I am glad I came here" after seeing Hoshiumi
Episode 21, Kageyama, "I am glad I came here" after seeing Atsumu's low set.

Yes, hinata said the same line when he saw hoshiumi.. both of them found new inspiration at nationals.. also, Atsumu is such a great character.. his passion for the game is comparable only to hinata and kageyama on that entire court.. he lives on it

"Maybe that's why he get's along with Asahi so well, he gets it" I have literally never thought about that ever in the years I've known about this show, wow. You're right, I think Nishinoya probably would have the most understanding about what its like to have high anxiety and fears like the ones Asahi shows every now and then. Maybe the reason Asahi is so expressive of how he's feeling is because he has people he trusts like Noya around. Asahi has a "scary" vibe to him to strangers so I'd imagine he usually suppresses his emotions around others, but is safe around the team. Plus, Nishinoya's whole beginning arc was a breakdown of him trying to support Asahi through his fears and Asahi giving up and not trusting him right? Kinda reflects the "Have someone help you" thing his grandfather taught him.

Definitely! Well done tying it back to the original introduction arc for the two, I think it definitely applies there. Noya was so upset with Asahi for running away because Noya had learned these lessons beforehand. It adds a whole new level of frustration that he had to be feeling that we (viewers) wouldn’t understand up until now.

Nishinoya's grandpa is the embodiment of "save the best for last" 😂 one of the chillest and coolest characters appearing almost at the very end of the season

this episode solidified atsumu as my favourite character. i started playing around two years ago and play for my uni team. i always wanted to play setter but my team sees my strengths as a left-side instead. i really resonate with his mindset and dedication to playing setter, and hope i can reflect the same work ethic in my training. the best setters i know embody atsumu's aggression and drive in their play and it makes them seriously admirable and demanding of players' respect. props to haikyuu for so perfectly understanding this type of character.

I'm so jealous! One thing i regret the most is that i did not pursue being an athlete! Because i always have the same passion and competitiveness that hinata, kageyama and atsumu have. I'm done with my college life and now facing THE life. Win some games for us haikyuu fans!

I feel like you do a great job real-time analyzing things as they happen on screen. There's lots of parallels I didn't notice my first watch that you pick up on very well

The title of the manga for noya and kinoshita part of the episode is "the guardian deity's Hero". Which solidify Kinoshita as the reason for Noya success in receiving jump floater ball. From training with him and his voice giving noya extra encouragement. They probably change the title so it fits Osamu as Atsumu hero and Atsumu as their spiker hero.
It is always a fun thing to think about the parallel of Atsumu and Kageyama. The similarities and the difference that they have that shape them differently. The similarities is both of them want to be the best setter while the differences is what definition of setter they have. Middle school Kageyama thought that the best setter is someone who set with precision and speed to the spiker. While Atsumu definition is the give the best support aka set to their spiker. Both of them has some personality issues but Atsumu have Osamu to keep him in check while Kageyama doesn't have anyone like that until he meet Hinata.

The voice acting this episode was phenomenal, I love this entire match.
I can’t believe I didn’t put that much thought into it, and didn’t notice the paralell between Noya and Atsumu. Its even more brilliant now, holy shit.

Actually the Chapter Atsumu's backstory is told is titled "Love", which is how they describe his playstyle as a setter. It's a bit contradictory but Atsumu is harsh because he wants his players to be the absolute best they can be and he cares so much it can come out as a bit toxic. But when he's on his game and he has teammates that will follow him and not back down his sets really are "loving" and the best cause they force you to get better. In a different way, he learned his communication with his team in a very different way from Oikawa and Kageyama. He believes his spikers will hit his set cause he knows his players are that good and hit the ball for at maximum ability.
Oikawa giving his players an "easier" good set to maximize their ability and play to their strengths. Because the hitters of Seijoh trust him to give them the set they like letting Oikawa doing a majority of the work to make them look even better.
Kageyama on the otherhand because of his fear of relapsing into The King Of The Court became the Goodie Two Shoes. He let his teammates coast and stagnate by not challenging them with harder tosses and they began to develop some bad habits. By balancing out what both Oikawa and Atsumu said to him, he is able to restructure himself to take a more balanced approach to challenge and push his teammates to do better without snapping them in half like in middle school.

YESSS season 1-3 will always have a place in my heart but for me season 4 even with just the ball boy arc alone makes it stand out more than the previous ones. i love how hinata is written and how everything he does piles up and becomes one heck of an emotional pay off uts crazy

in the manga while oikawa is said as the setter who brings out the best in his team or spikers, atsumu is the setter who makes illusion that the spikers get better. he really goes all out in ensuring the ball is in the best spot. hence i can partially justify where that arrogance came from. it can be frustrating that you’re giving your best, yet the others don’t seem to give the same energy

I'm in the faction that was very disappointed with the animation in S4 (bec, they favored sakuga for the hype moments while sacrificing the rest of the show; just not my preference), but I will say that the storytelling progresses each season/game.
I sobbed so hard when the manga released Kinnoshita's chapter. I think it was called "The Hero's Hero", because Noya has been Karasuno's guardian and savior for so long, and it's Kinnoshita, a benchwarmer, who saved Noya. Kinnoshita not only encouraged him this match and in that float serve receive moment, but he spent hours, everyday, after-practice training with Noya.
Kinnoshita admitted that he isn't as passionate for the game, isn't as dedicated, but liked volleyball enough to stay even as a benchwarmer who never sets foot in actual games. That's why he says with awe that the first years were different beings. He's acknowledging that he didn't put as much effort and heart as the 1st yrs did. He feels like a side character to his own story (which resonated with me at the time of the chapter release), and it's very meta. Ever since S1, all reactors would say "Who are you again?" whenever Ennoshita, Narita and Kinnoshita have screentime and dialogue. Kinnoshita is aware that he's in the awkward phase between lukewarm and ambition.
Kinnoshita's disappointment with his failure is because he feels he contributed nothing to the team, especially if they lose against Inarizaki and the 3rd yrs have to retire. He wanted that "moment" Ennoshita, Tsukki, and Yamaguchi had to validate that he was able to contribute something to the people he respects. And Noya gave him that "moment", although he wasn't on the court when it happened. Kinnoshita and all the benchwarmers stayed with our regulars everyday and in all the training camps. Without them, the regulars had no one to practice against, and Karasuno as a whole wouldn't come this far in their journey. They mattered.
