You're really observant! I've watched hundreds of people reacting to the Harry Potter films, but absolutley no one has picked up on nearly as many things as you. You also know a lot of references from simply just knowing them, such as Lupin meaning werewolf etc. I am looking forward to watching the rest of your reactions, you seem very smart :) Very enjoyable videos so far!

You were right about Pettigrew "being literally a rat". In the official additional materials it is clarified that to become an Animagus, a very complex ritual has to be performed, and the animal cannot be chosen - it is the one that the person resembles the most (spiritually, if you know what I mean). This animal almost always matches the one that the Patronus takes the shape of, except that the Patronus's form may change if the owner has an extreme emotional breakdown. (Also, the Patronus may take two forms: a shield and an animal. Lupin's is a wolf, but he always uses the shield form because he is afraid that the wolf would make it obvious who he is).
Also, in the book it is explained that the dementors came to the Quidditch match because of all the excitement and joy of the audience (it was "a real feast" for them)

Now the correct way to address it is: Muggle 🤍 & Magic 🖤
    - Harry and Ron is "pure blood" as Draco has it, with both Magic parents. 🖤🖤=🖤
    - Seamus as he says he's half and half, is half blood with Magic + Muggle parents. 🤍🖤=🖤
    - Hermione and Lily (HP's mom) is Muggle-Born and Draco has is "mud blood" with no magical parents. 🤍🤍=🖤
    - Flecher is a Squib, a human with Magic parents but born with no magical talents. 🖤🖤=🤍
    - Dudley is a Muggle. Non magic folk as said by Hagrid. 🤍🤍=🤍

To answer your question about who can and can’t use magic. Underage wizards have “the Trace” on them, which is like an alarm that goes off if they cast spells outside of school.
“The Trace (incantation unknown) was a charm which allowed the Ministry to know of magic cast in the vicinity of wizards and witches who were under seventeen years of age. When any magical activity was performed in the vicinity of the underage individual, the Improper Use of Magic Office within the Ministry of Magic was alerted to the spell that was used, and to the location of the caster and the time it was cast. The charm allowed the Ministry to track underage magic, which was banned under the Decree for the Reasonable Restriction of Underage Sorcery. The Trace automatically broke upon a wizard or witch's seventeenth birthday.”
After seventeen you’re allowed to do magic anywhere.

"So Dementors aren't bad." Well, technically they are considered bad. They are a form of "spirit" that wanders about and sucks the soul out of basically anyone. There is no real known way to deal with them other than the Partronus charm. Everything else they just completely ignore. The reason why Azkaban's prison warden are Dementors, is the fact that Azkaban itself is not only special, but an "enigma" so to say. Azkaban used to be the castle of an old dark wizard (sadly forgot the name right about now) that lured people (iirc mostly muggles) in and tortured them. The castle itself was completely hidden from sight and sense by some form of magic. Only after the dark wizard died, did the castle become visible. When the ministry inspected the castle, they found that an unusually large herd of Dementors were inhabiting the castle for reasons unknown (but probably because they feed on negative emotion and well, torture is pretty negative). Shortly afterwards they just decided to use the chance of a castle filled with dementors to make a prison out of it.
Why in the hell they would send those "we attack anything, whenever we want" spirits to capture Sirius is anyones guess, but that might be in some way because of Rowlings "I'll just make shit up as I go." mentality she had while writing the books and the subsequent pieces of lore.

So, despite being a great film, it left out quite a lot of context and info. The marauders map was made by James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew while they were all in school together. Lupin was attacked by a werewolf called Fenrir grayback when he was a child. Dumbledore made special accommodations so that he could attend Hogwarts, but he would stay in the shrieking shack when he transformed into a werewolf… Hence the rumors that the shack was haunted. The rest of The marauders underwent a long process to become anamagi so that they could keep Lupin company while he was changed. Peter became a rat, Sirius became a dog, and James became a stag. Hence their names on the marauders map: Mooney, worm tail, pad foot, and prongs.
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg😅

Funny you should mention that Voldemort should just teach defense against the dark arts since they can't keep a teacher in that position. He's actually the reason they can't keep anyone in that position. He once applied to teach it, before he rose to power, but Dumbledore wouldn't hire him. He cursed the position in retaliation, and no one's held the job for more than one school year since.

Pure blood wizards/witches have no Muggle (non-magical) ancestors. James Potter was a Pureblood. The Malfoys, the Longbottoms, the Weasleys, the Blacks & the Lestranges are Pure Blood families.
Muggleborns or Mudbloods (which is considered a very offensive term) are wizards/witches that have non-magical parents. Hermione, Lily Potter, Dean Thomas, Justin Finch-Fletchley, Colin & Dennis Creevy are Muggleborn.
Half-Bloods have both magical & non-magical parentage or ancestry. Most wizards & witches are Half-Bloods. Harry Potter had magical parents but his maternal grandparents were Muggles. Voldemort’s mother was a witch but his father was a Muggle. Same for Snape & Seamus Finnegan. Hagrid’s father was a wizard but his mother was a giantess. Half-Blood doesn’t strictly mean one parent was magical & one was not. Anyone with Muggle ancestors is considered a Half-Blood even if the Muggle was several generations back.
A Squib is someone who’s parents are magical but who doesn’t have any magical abilities themselves. Argus Filch the Hogwarts caretaker is a Squib & so is Arabella Figg, who you will see in the 5th movie.
Hope that explains everything & I’m enjoying the reactions.

It takes a lot of practice and powerful magic to make a fully formed patronus, it's explained in the books that kids in younger grades can't usually do it.. Also, Harry keeps fainting because dementors they suck your soul and leave you with only your sad/painful memories, when Harry sees a dementor he hears his mother screaming in his head when she was killed protecting him.. There's a lot lost in translation between books and movies, we don't get a lot of the character's thoughts..

Think about it like this, this isn't a series just about Harry Potter vs. Voldemort. This is a narrative meant to open up a whole new world of magic and to immerse the reader and audience completely into this world to the point where you don't want to meant it. The world building happens more and more each one... along with the maturation of the characters, themes, and ideas. You're going on what is probably the greatest coming-of-tale ever conceived.

Lupin is a werewolf since he was a child. His best friends James, Sirius and Peter found out and wanted to join him while he is transformed, so they decided to become animagi. Werewolfs dont attack anmagi, so they could be together.
Turning into an animagus is a hard and long magical process. You cant decide which animal you turn into - it wil be the same as your patronus, your "spirit animal"
James, Sirius and Peter haven't told anyone that they became animagi. But there are a few registered animagi, for example professor Mcgonagall, who is a cat.

I so agree that Ron is a legend! It might not seem like he's very good at magic sometimes BUT if you keep in mind that because his parents are poor he has to use a hand-me-down wand that didn't fit or choose him, he's brilliant.. Plus he's got all the street smarts to compliment Hermione's book smarts.. Harry's fame is just because Voldemort happened to choose him as being part of a prophecy and kind of an accident, although having to spend summers with the Dursley's is punishment enough for special treatment at school..

  • @lupus1891
    @lupus1891 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Every full Patronus is corporeal, and it represent something like your spirit guardian. The words "Expecto Patronum" mean "I expect (or await) guardian." The Dementors are methapor for depression and can force bad memories and dread you experienced. The worse things you saw, the worse they can affect you because they are bringing up those menories and feelings back, and Harry witnessed his parents murder. That's why they affected him more than other kids his age.
In the book he did not only hear his mothers screams, but he also saw her and his father on the night they were murdered. He went through hard time because he felt guilty he wanted to hear and see them again one more time, and he wanted to learn fight against Dementors at the same time.
His Patronus is decribed pretty different in the books, I assume they were saving on CGI. He was alone at the lake, Hermione stayed with Buckbeak at Hagrids house. Here's the part from the books.
"Harry raised his head to look at the circle of
Dementors across the lake. One of them was lowering its hood. It was time for the rescuer to appear - but no one was coming to help this time - And then it hit him - he understood. He hadn’t seen his father - he had seen himself -
Harry flung himself out from behind the bush and pulled out his wand.
    ‘EXPECTO PATRONUM!’ he yelled.
And out of the end of his wand burst, not a shapeless cloud of mist, but a blinding, dazzling, silver animal. He screwed up his eyes, trying to see what it was. It looked like a horse. It was gal-loping silently away from him, across the black surface of the
lake. He saw it lower its head and charge at the swarming Dementors… now it was galloping around and around the black shapes on the ground, and the Dementors were falling back, scattering, retreating into the darkness … they were gone.
The Patronus turned. It was cantering back towards Harry across the still surface of the water. It wasn’t a horse. It wasn’t a unicorn, either. It was a stag. It was shining brightly as the moon above … it was coming back to him …
It stopped on the bank. Its hooves made no mark on the soft ground as it stared at Harry with its large, silver eyes. Slowly, it bowed its antlered head. And Harry realised … ‘Prongs,’ he whispered.
But as his trembling fingertips stretched towards the creature, it vanished."
P.S. His father was animagus stag (also one of the creators of the map), and his nickname was Prongs.
Harry only knew what was his fathers nickname, as Sirius did not have time to tell him what animal he was.

There is also another connection with the names, not known to many: in the 1800s there was a surgeon by the name of Thomas Joseph Pettigrew who worked with an artist called George Cruikshanks, who illustrated his work. They unrolled ancient mummies in public performances and published a couple of books together. Pettigrew was so well connected to big names, writers, secret societies and cults, that he was asked by the Duke of Hamilton to mummify his body after his death, which he apparently did. "Expecto Patronum" is the incantation of the spell. Successfully casting it produces a Patronus which at full strength is in the shape of an animal that reflects an aspect of your personality. At lesser strength it manifests as a mist of varying intensity depending on the strength of the caster.
They did a poor job representing it in this movie as it should have looked like a stag both times.
Fixing a pair of glasses is relatively simple where as fixing eyes would be a much more complicated thing. Well beyond 3rd year students. In this way magic, although amazing is the same as any other discipline.
It was funny when you said that they are running out of Dark Arts teachers so they might as well let Voldemort have the job. The reason it is funny is because Voldemort, when he was still Tom Riddle applied for the position. When Dumbledore turned him down he cursed the position so that no one could hold it for more than a year.
Pettigrew/Scabbers didn't kill Harry before because he had no reason to. He didn't join Voldemort because he is a true believer but rather because he is a coward. He believed that Voldemort would win so he was looking out for himself. If he was discovered then both sides would want to kill him since Voldy's followers would blame him for their masters demise. Better to hide out as a rat and be taken care of.

Harry's mum and dad were both magical, but his mum was 'muggle born' - meaning neither of her parents was magical - just like Hermione. It happens sometimes; a witch or wizard can be born to non-magical parents. The opposite, a non-magical child born to magical parents, is called a 'squib' and in the books we learn that Filch is a squib.

@Cinobite Reacts Just a side note [since you "like" house elves this much]:
    - they are basically "magic slaves" (but most of them dont really mind, because "serving a wizard family" is their life purpose); Hermione tried freeing these elves in a later book [not shown in a movie] by leaving knitted caps and other clothes lying around under some rubbish ... but the elves rejected them
    - there are about 50 of them in Hogwarts ... who do all the cleaning and cooking (there is an identical "feast hall" right below the one the kids eat in, which is where the elves stack the food from the kitchen on the tables ... until the food gets transported up at the start of the meal)

A patronus is a corporeal representation of the caster. Harry’s is a stag which is the same as his father’s. Not sure why they didn’t show the stag the second time.
Another thing is not all witches and wizards are good at magic. And sometimes you have squibs who can’t do magic at all. As a result you will sometimes see witches and wizards not using magic because it would be easier to just do it than use magic that you might struggle with.

@@CinobiteReacts a low level patronus is just the light shield and will fend off a small number. A full patronus takes the form of an animal that acts as a shield. It stays for as long as the caster is focused on the spell and can be controlled by them. Dementors feed off your happy memories and leave you with only your darkest ones. The patronus is made of your happiest memory. Since it is not real the dementors can't feed off it and it drives them away.

The hufflepuff who fell was saved also. They just didn't show it. It's fine not to like a character, but you purposely get irritated with Harry over things he couldn't control or anytime someone treats him nice given what he experienced and continues to experience. He never killed voldemort. He killed Quirrell and destroyed a memory in a book. He didn’t look for the trouble, they look for him. And the Dementors affected him more because he has less happy memories and more horrors.

    Prongs: James Potter
    Wormtail: Peter Pettegrew
    Moony: Remus Lupin
    Padfoot: Sirius Black
One thing they didn’t mention in this movie was a really important thing involving Snape and James as; Sirius telling Snape how to get past the Whomping Willow as thus nearly getting him killed by a transformed Remus Lupin, which is when Sirius took advantage of Remus for a sake of a so called “prank” until James figured was Sirius was up to and saved Snape before it was too late, Snape indebted to James Potter because of this, disgusted by this. If you want a horror suggestion "I am not a serial killer" is pretty great. Christopher Lloyd plays such a stand out role in the movie.
In answer to your question, underage witches and wizards are allowed to do magic in the presence of an adult witch or wizard (seventeen or older) and they are allowed to do magic when there are no muggles around. That's why the letter from the ministry mentioned the hover charm in chamber of secrets. They assumed it was harry because a house elf should never be in a muggle dwelling and the only other magic user in the house would be harry himself. The trace informs the ministry if magic is used in the presence of muggles specifically (I say this as vaguely as I did in an attempt to not provide spoilers, not because I'm not aware of future events in the series.)
The patronus is the result of the spell, expecto patronum is the words used to focus the spell. He's giving him chocolate because chocolate causes the body to create happy chemicals and the reason the dementors go after harry so hard is because they feed on horrible memories and emotions and get stronger the more traumatic the memories are that they are feeding on.

It's been a while since I read the books [well, listened to the audiobooks] but I believe in The Chamber of Secrets, Hermione actually was more involved in the movie, except it was in side stories which were not included in the movie - so it wasn't that the actress was not available, but rather her parts in the book were not included in the movie.
Oh, and the chocolate thing - the book says that it is the standard way to treat the dispair Dementors cause.

    • @TheFireMonkey
      @TheFireMonkey ปีที่แล้ว

@xiphos8219 perhaps, but unless we assume that magical people are not human, at some point magic had to enter into humanity and that means it could happen again.
Now the matter is not addressed in the books so you can assume at the beginning there were magical people and non- magical people and they intermixed, but it is just a possible that there were just humans and at some point some developed magic. From my view, that is more reasonable. That would mean that it could happen again.
But your view is equally valid.

IT IS MY LONGEST COMMENT EVER. PRESS READ MORE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
    ANSWERS TO YOUR QUESTIONS.
DOESN'T CONTAIN ANY MOVIE SPOILERS, BUT IT CONTAINS BOOK SPOILERS.
1:01 It isn't that simple story. Great things lie ahead to experience.
2:15 Yeah. They aren't allowed to do magic from joining Hogwarts till age 17. It is a movie mistake.
4:18 Yeah, Harry is a half-blood. His mom and dad were both wizards. But his dad James belongs to a pureblood family whereas his mom Lily belongs to a pure muggle family like Hermione. Lily and Aunt Petunia are sisters.
4:38 Death Eaters are the army of Voldemort
5:25 The heads weren't in the books. It was an imagination of the director. This movie has the best director so far.
6:47 Good knowledge. Sirius's whole family is named after stars, galaxies and constellations. Like Orion Black, Arcturus Black, Regulus Black, Bellatrix Black, Andromeda Black etc.
11:03 Richard Harris(Old Dumbledore) passed away before the shooting of this film started. This new Dumbledore is a bit off the character in 3rd and 4th movies. But after that, he became my favourite Dumbledore.
11:43 Dementors are bad. Ministry made a deal with them to provide prisoners to suck good memories and in exchange they guard Azkaban. Dumbledore hates them and protested in ministry to not make them guards because they can turn back at any point.
16:04 Neville is scared of Snape so much because Snape Always bullies him and Gryffindor. In books, he almost poisoned Neville's toad before that Boggart class.
19:55 Quidditch won't end until the snitch is found. The snitch adds 150 points to the catching team. But the team that has the most point wins the game irrespective of the catcher of the snitch. The longest quidditch match was about 3 months because the snitch got lost.
22:17 Yeah. That is the full form patronas that can turn into an animal. But, Harry isn't yet able to produce it properly. In Wizarding world patronas animal of someone can transform to match the patronas animal of its lover.
25:22 Dementors are a symbol of depression. So, Lupin gave him chocolate. It is a medical reference.
26:38 The lines, and the torn clothes are a way to represent Lupin's hard life being a werewolf.
32:06 "Dementor's kiss" suck the soul out of the body.
32:42 Peter always tried to stay with the powerful one to be safe. He doesn't care about good, bad, or missions as long as he is alive. While fighting with Sirius after betraying James and Lily, he killed 12 muggles and escaped by leaving his finger so the ministry thought Sirius is a mass murderer.
35:00 In the books, Remus just explained to him that his father's patronas animal is a stag before that moment.
36:12 The Time Turner is given to Hermione by Dumbledore in books. It is a very powerful thing so they need permission from the ministry and Dumbledore vowed for Hermione. But it created a lot of plot holes so JK Rowling destroyed all the time turners in a scene in 5th book. It isn't in the movies.
40:03 Because it was a stag. The CGI team didn't try to make the Stag a second time I think. But in books, it clearly said a stag was formed from his wand.
It is Percy Weasley and Oliver Wood's (Gryffindor's Head boy and Quidditch Captain respectively) last year. And Harry's team won the final quidditch match that year.
Marauder's Map is created by the Marauders.
    Marauders are,
    James Potter - Prongs (Stag)
    Sirius Black - Padfoot (Dog)
    Remus Lupin - Moony (Wolf)
    Peter Pettigrew - Wormtail (Rat)
When Lupin joined Hogwarts, Dumbledore became aware of his condition and planted the Whoomping Willow tree and made a tunnel to the Shrieking Shack. Every full moon, Lupin go there and transformed into Werewolf and make wolf noises there. Dumbledore had spread rumours that it is a haunted place to keep Lupin safe. But soon the 3 marauders find out about Lupin's condition and accompany him for some years learned to turn into animals illegally and they did and nobody knows about them. They took advantage of their condition and found out many secrets of Hogwarts and made the marauders map, with all the secret passages and places.
