I wonder if he read through all the comments or not , but I just want to let Mr.Leonard that you are the best math teacher I've ever met. You are a talented and very kind teacher. I wish I have seen your videos sooner because I would have done better at math in high school. As now , I am a freshman majoring in business and I am struggling in Statistics because my professor seems not to devote himself into teaching at all. My professor covered the probability part for only about 3 hours for both the lesson and exercises, in contrary, Mr. leonard spent almost 10 hours for this chapter. Thank you so so so much for all these videos ... I know I will survive my up coming midterm. ( a comment from 5000 miles away )
Where most lecturers leave out vital key elements that pertain to understanding, you seem to know what confuses a student and you cover those. Thanks for the Vids. South Africa thanks you.. : )
I'm currently doing my nursing degree via distance learning and have stats this semester. Initially, I was feeling like the semester was going to be a disaster. There was no instruction from our professor other than read the chapters and do the review questions. Reading my stats textbook was like reading a foreign language. Then someone told be about your lecture videos. What a lifesaver!! Your teaching methods are awesome, taking examples from everyday life so that the student can relate to the information. And lots of humour to make it enjoyable. Thanks a million for making these available!!
I just gotta say, It is so awesome when a teacher has such a cool, fun personality and you can tell that they enjoy what they do. You are great at what you do and its obvious that you have fun while you do it. You are really helping us out professor Leonard. Statistic and other math subjects are pretty hard for a lot of us, we appreciate that you are a teacher because without you a lot of us would have failed or be failing. Teacher of the year right here :)
I've had that confusion about the 'and' term since 7th grade. 9 years later, I'm 22 and today because of you, I finally understood it crystal clear. Thank you so much. You're an amazing teacher.
All the way from Florida.......THANK YOU!!! Finally someone who doesn't make stats seem like an alien language! This is my third attempt at the class, and the first time I understand it! You're awesome. Wish I lived were you taught. I'd never take another instructors math course again!
Thank you Professor Leonard. You are single handedly helping me fulfill my life long term goal of becoming a Nurse. I am utilizing so many of your videos. You are so amazing at what you do! Thank you again!
Thank you Mr. Leonard for posting the classes. It really helped my understanding of the concepts. The explanations and samples are easy to understand. And helped me to go through my class much easier.
I am in my masters of engineering (they have now combined bachelors with masters, have no choice) and i have avoided learning probability since first year (4 years now) because they were hopeless at effectively teaching the content. so i was quick to dismiss this topic.I would go to the exam without even bothering to learn it. now, i have to do a unit that is pure probability and statistics, and you SIR are a legend. LEGEND I SAY! you lay the foundations very well, something alot of professors cant do. explanation and examples are perfection!
I wish we could have such a talent in Pakistan as Professor Leonard is. You have a charismatic professor. i have never been impressed by a teacher like. My midterm exam is two days later,,, I wish i could reach your lectures a month earlier.. I pray for your looooong life, prosperity, good health and happiness for ever. Allah give you more strength to preach the noble cause. would love to meet you ever,,,,,.....
I though I already knew all of this stuff but you taught me something that I subconsciously assumed but didn't actually know. Namely the the difference in meaning of "and"
I wish I watched your videos earlier when I was in A level I'd have gotten an A but since God has he's own timing I thank God that I'm watching them now. They've helped a lot your the best
I have always struggled with the "and" rule and with the binomial distribution. You have provided the best explanations ever. Thanks for your lectures.
Thank you for having this up. I feel like I'm taking your class and doing the HW for my professor lol Your explanations have helped so much! (from an non-traditional 30+ old student)
YOU ARE PHENOMENAL. What I would do to have a professor like you. You are constantly reinforcing the concepts and just teaching in a way that is so easy for me to grasp. THANK YOU THANK YOU SO MUCH. Ive wasted a lot of time trying to intuitively grasp probability and this has made it so easy. only complaint is your muscles distracting me.
Professor Leonard you are truly so great at what you do! I’ve proceeded to watch basically all of your videos for statistics and it has truly helped me tremendously. You are an excellent professor who truly cares about his students success. Like I said I would do anything to find a professor like you. Thank you so much for all of your help and I look forward to using your videos when I take calculus.
You helped me get a 103% on my first exam so I’m hoping I can get an A on my next one too :) This new material is more difficult but you’re really good at explaining these concepts, thanks!!
I'm in my MPH taking Biostats online, wow what a freakin challenge. Your lectures help me understand more in depth in a fun way. I'm hoping you have lectures to take me all through Biostats. Thank you so much. If you have any advise to overcome the intimidation of Biostats, I'm all ears.
Thank you. Looking forward to the next one. I need to know how to calculate probabilities of drawing a specific card in multiple attempts (or a collection of different cards within x trials). It would improve my decision making when playing strategy games involving probability. I want to apply this by calculating development card probabilities for the game Settlers of Catan. For example; I would like to draw 3 knights and a victory point with 4 draws (in no specific order). What is the probability of that happening? There are 14 knights and 5 victory points in a 25 card development deck.
maria gotsis Professor Leonard, thank you so much! You have no idea how helpful these videos have been. I'm enrolled at another university, but our text book is the absolute worst and I've had trouble following along. You explain things very clearly and you make the subject matter relatable, which I find incredibly helpful. Thanks again!
Dahlia, I was fortunate enough to have the same text book as Professor Leonard, and with his help I received an "A" in my Stats class!! Thank you Prof Leonard!
Hi Professor, I have gone through some of your statistic videos .They are really very nice and understandable for any lay man.I am actually stuck with Bayes theorem .I could find proper explanation for Bayes theorem anywhere.Could you pls post a video for same as it will be very helpful to me
I'm curious as to why, when regarding conditional probability for independent events, isn't P(B given that event A occurred) isn't equivalent to 1- P(A). It made sense for that to be valid, but in practice, it isn't a valid statement. For example, P(2 given that 3 occurred)= 1/6, but if there independent shouldn't it be 1- 1/6, but I guess that rule, logic, only applies to dependent events and not independent events. Independent events are I guess separate events while dependent events are conditioned upon what happens during event A, thus it'll be 1- P(A). I think I might've answered my own question.
When you think of dependence or independence, you have to think of whether the P(A) effects the P(B) occurring. If it does, the two events are dependent. If it doesn't the two events are independent. So if P(B|A) where A and B are independent, then P(B|A) = P(B). Because of independence, event A happening has no effect on the probability of event B happening.
I love such amazing Professor ,you're really awesome, but when we say P(Gand R) , we must say that its P(1st green and the 2nd red or 1st red and the 2nd green)so that the order is much important when the colors are distinct ,and thus P(GandR)=p(G).p(R/G)+ p(R).p(G/R)
This prof is too good for a small city college, he needs to be teaching UT Austin or Berkeley ....but alas those universities is filled with profs teaching who have no interest in teaching and only want to do research on esoteric theories
that moment at 58:01, when his students were not able to multiply two fractions. That was very cute. And it's quite ironic that students sitting in a lecture on calculus are having trouble in multiplying two fractions.
please help,i am struggling to this question. a person applied to 3 companies. probability of obtaining offer A 0.4., B 0.3 , c 0.6. assume three are independent. what is the probability that the person will receive a job offer from company b only
Curious idea about one of the concepts. You were speaking about rolling a Die giving independent outcomes in the case P(2|3). Is it really independent though? If you continue to roll the die 100 times for example and you have yet to roll a 2, the chances of rolling a 2 are becoming more and more likely due to the Law of Large Numbers. How does that work?
Independent means that both events can occure, but occurence of once does not affect the occurance of the other. It's like with taking a random person from a crowd, and looking at probability of picking someone with a red shirt and at the same time being a woman. Both can occure, and one does not affect the other. Meanwhile mutualy exclusive would be if in the same scenario we would look for occurence of the choosen person to be blonde and brunnete at the same time. Occurence of one scenario means the other one is impossible.
There are 50 red and 50 black balls in a box, When you randomly pick two balls without replacement then what is the probability of second ball being black given that first ball is red? can anyone pls answer to this?
if given the chance to be his student, i'll be punctual in class, and be attentive to the lessons with patience, but his body is so destructive. sounds gay! IKR! you're a total package professor
He repeats a patently false statement over and over within the first several minutes. The word "and" has exactly the same meaning in both formulas, simply that "both" events are true. For instance, if I roll two dice and ask "What is the probability of rolling a 5 on the first die or a 3 on the second die?", then I would use the Addition Rule and calculate P(5 on 1st) + P(3 on 2nd) - P(5 on 1st and 3 on 2nd) in which case the word "and" clearly refers to two different (in this case successive) trials. I wouldn't trust the information given in this lecture.
P(5 on 1st dice or 3 on 2nd dice) - This means that my trial will be successful even if I get desired outcome on one of the trials, that is either of the dice or both (both means 5 on 1st AND 3 on 2nd)= 1/6 +1/6=1/3 P(5 on 1st dice AND THEN 3 on 2nd dice) - Trial will be successful only if 1st trial And THEN 2nd trial both are successful= 1/6*1/6=1/36
I am sorry but I could not learn in this type of environment. It is almost like you're too flirty and its kinda awkward and uncomfortable, besides the information is not helping me to understand this subject at all. That shirt is way too tight for this setting! It's unprofessional and not conducive for learning. Just get the phone numbers once class is over and do that on your own time, not while we are paying you to teach us this material. lol

Amazing lecture, im taking probability and statistics for engineers this semester in college, and this really helped me ALOT!
You are a great teacher. I wish I got these videos when I was a student.
you made things pretty simple , hope you cover a lot more topics in discrete maths
Thank you for your good lectures and keep up the good work. Please make your writing big so we all and sundry can see clearly.
you re awesome !!A big thank you from a Morrocan living in montreal . I wish I can send you a gift or something
In a quantum mechanics class and this helped clear up so much. Thank you!
This is a wonderful video. Thank you for making this available.
I wish you have upper level math videos. This stat 1 video is helping me in probability and random variables right now.
Sir u are much better than any other teacher
infact i wanna be like this man so that if two of us exist we can change the world, thanks a lot prof i am indeed greatful

Good lecture, I am taking Stat now, I understand your lecture better that my professor. I wonder if you teach College Algebra for my daughter.

I mean that P(Gand R)= P(G ∩ R) =P(R∩G) ,where ∩ is commutative (linear algebra)

Dependent = without replacement.

is multiplication rule related to permutation? Thanks
can someone explain the difference between mutually exclusive and independent?

excellent
isnt it suppose to be P(QIQ)=1 ???
It cannot be 1 since there are 4 Queens in a 52 card deck and it is possible that you select some other card other than Queen.
U sound like u dont know how to play the Game Ahmad.
Thanks a lot
Thx.
You are best ....but I can't be in your class...
