    I agree with you on sending people decent plants so they have chance to survive when arrive and these exotic plants are not cheap.

    Even a week the plant is still acclimating. I completely agree you cannot send plants that have just been imported or mailed but I would even say months. It’s not something you can make quick money but you will make money and people will get the plants so it works out for everyone to wait.

    Good video. I enjoy most the more practical ones you do on treatment and care for ailing and other plants. I’d be interested to see your greenhouse setup as much as whatever’s inside it. Keep up the good work.

    Wet and cold is definitely the worst combination for any plant I guess, they generally will resist better to cold if they are dry.
    Oh and I completely agree with what you said concerning some sellers that sell the plants as soon as they import them, I think it's not very responsible, especially if the prices are high

    • @JamesArmstrongPlants

      Absolutely! Deadly combination there 😬 but it’s doing ok thankfully! 🙌🌱

      The Melano I bought was in bad condition. The lady who sold it to me sent a pic that was a few weeks old. When I got it it was damaged. I felt pretty scammed. I’m trying to nurse it to health though. Wish people didn’t do that. Especially a plant that expensive.

    I believe I spot a warscewiczii there in the background? I would love hear you talking a bit about your experience with it, both difficulties you may have had with it and if you've managed any success with it! Ooooh and also, it would be super interesting to have some sort of comparison on the type of velvety texture on different plants! e.g. the texture of the warscewiczii is so much more silky to the touch than ph. micans is, and I would like to know for example how the warocqueanum or melanochrysum compares with these! :D

    Hey did you grow the crystallinums in your jar from seeds?

  • @christmassnow3465
    @christmassnow3465 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I noticed you kept the philodendron in the bag with the leaf sticking out. Do you use this method for the plant to adjust gradually to house conditions while the bottom part is still in a high-moisture environment? Did you find it easier to repot a cutting this way?

    • @JamesArmstrongPlants
      @JamesArmstrongPlants  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do that if the plant is larger because having a larger leaf emerging inside the bag and pressing against the wet sides sometimes promotes a bit of rot which I want to avoid. Also you're totally right it's a good way to make sure the plant is well adapted to my indoor space! Thanks for commenting!! 🌱🌱

  • @Grrrnthumb
    @Grrrnthumb 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    James, this plant was obviously over your head, and I would never point that out unless you tried to blame the plant sellers. That was not cool! You were wrong on that. Yeah shipping is tough on them, but responsibility for the type of decline you described rests all with the end grower. You were really slow to start the full rescue, among other errors. If you were expecting huge healthy root systems, a plant acclimated to low humidity, and one grown until established in your northern home country, well that's just not the way it works in the real world. Please no more failure videos blaming others for your inexperience!

    • @JamesArmstrongPlants
      @JamesArmstrongPlants  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi there - I noticed and acted upon the issues immediately, as said in the video. I think It absolutley is the seller's responsibility to make sure the plants they are selling are in good shape, and that particularly with mature specimens they are acclimated appropriately. The other people I know who bought a similar plant from the same seller have all also lost their plants so this wasn't an experience limited to myself. That said this is not about this seller it was about how I looked after a plant that was in poor shape when I received it which is something that happens to many people.
      I appreciate your opinion and certainly I had and still have a lot to learn about plants - but I have received and cared for hundreds of plants at this point and I have lost very few, so my understanding is fine.
      I also did not mention the seller by name so this wasn't targeted at anyone in particular - I said that i totally understand that it happens sometimes but that I think giving plants the time to acclimate (a bare minimum of no root root before passing the plant on is enough) after import IS the seller's responsibility. It almost feels like you didn't watch the video - thanks for your input but I think you missed the point. Have a good day!

      @@JamesArmstrongPlants You, sir, are a class act. This comment was so mean, and just as you said in your response, it really seems like they didn’t even bother to watch the video! I am not at all surprised at the grace with which you handled this ridiculous comment, but it makes me feel honored to follow your channel. I think that kindness is a virtue that so many people nowadays lack, but when we are unfortunate enough to encounter this kind of lack of basic human decency, the way we choose to respond is so important. You have been one of my favorite plant TH-cam channels from the first video of yours I stumbled across, and this just reminds me why I enjoy your content so much. You have beautiful plants, you are a wealth of helpful information and you are a lovely human being.
