What a gift to Canned Heat disciples like myself! I was fortunate enough to fall in love with the blues in the 90s as a 20 something I saw the lineup with Robert Lucas, Watson and Henry in Yucaipa California one night right before Henry passed. I watched Fito stop time. His description of the children of Bob Hite is so true. I fancied myself one of his kids he was definitely an archetype. I’m working on over 6 months without a drink. I started a little blues band called Refried Mojo using a canned heat and Mayall as my main inspirations. This was such a cool interview! Thank you Mark!
The idea tha Henry & Harvey had similar styles is dead wrong. Harvey's cool, Henry's hot. Harvey played some notes that Henry avoided, less bluesy notes, notes tha Alan didn't like.
Larry was great, but he WAS replaceable. I can understand Fito submitting to a guy who preceded him in the band, & Alan probably just didn't wanna argue, ( Alan wanted Henry in the band, NOT Harvey), but why'd the Bear kiss Larry's ass all the time? He'd let Larry quit & rejoin whenever he felt like it, & let him hire & fire guitarists.

We had Future Blues and Hooker & Heat on my ship in Viet Nam. Fido is a wonderful man his sprit lives through his music.
Bob Hite,1943-1981, 38. The late Frank Cook was drummer on the 1st LP, & at Monterey. The entire original band's deceased.

Yes, Alan was on one of his nature excursions and had to bail the guys out of jail in Denver.
The Bear bullied Alan. He thought it would toughen him up. Nope.
Alan knew, & wanted the band to learn, how to play odd-count idiosyncratic country-blues, but the band wanted to just power thru everything, straight.
