I really like this. It isn't like much I've heard before. It uses chromatism in a very unique way. It doesn't feel too impressionistic, nor too dissonant. It is an unsteady peace, almost. Even the final piece, with it's loud and quick chords do not feel dissonant. It is very hard to describe. Great work.
The first movement is somewhat reminiscent of a berceuse. The second section with the chromatics against the whole tone scale is really quite beautiful, as is your handwriting throughout. The ending is fresh. I liked it very much. The second piece somewhat reminds me of Messiaen's recitatives in places, combined with those Debussy swirls. I think some more development in that work would have been welcome, to better set up the ending. The third work was even more Debussy. Again, I was hoping for a little more development in your vision, but I'll be happy with what you've given. Fourth piece's B section almost seems like some kind of forgotten dance, like a mutated passage from the 3rd Mephisto Waltz. You seem to really like your binary form. Scarlatti would be proud! The fifth work is a welcome burst of grotesqueness, shades of which I think could have really fit well into the second piece in order to break up the established tropes. Very sarcastic moments, I'm in favor of your use of bass in this last piece. Prokofiev comes through. If you were to ever flesh these works out more, I'd probably give them a crack.
wow thanks! im very happy you took so much from these works. you're completely right, these are more akin to sketches. ive been especially interested in just creating something that gives a little glimpse into some interesting or unique world, not necessarily to develop these ideas a ton. I see it a bit like practicing to really formulate a phrase or idea before moving on to the complex and difficult task of creating musical drama and development. rest assured though, I am currently working on another piece in sonata form which will have plenty of development :)
It was an original idea to show a music notebook. In any case, this is the first time I've seen this. Thanks for the music.
Fantastic writing. You've made me think more deeply about my own compositions! Thank you.
what a masterpiece
thanks :)
