Having had a drive of one of the Scotts guards Warriors, whilst the driver drove my Chieftain back in 1990 I have to agree Mtsimus. What an awesome vehicle!
One of my fondest memories as a child was when I was in the Army Cadet Force, and we got to go on a training weekend with the Territorial Army, as it was called back then. We got set up in a training FIBUA(my first time in one) with cadet rifles and blank rounds, and were told to play "bad guy" for the TA's room clearing exercises. But the best part of it all was the Warrior that they had brought with them, complete with its own blank fire ammunition and barrel.. We got to ride in it from one area to the other, and when the "fighting" started during the night, it all started when the TA opened fire with that automatic cannon. Not quite as awe-inspiring as some other battlefield sounds, but as a 14-year-old hearing a cannon fire for the first time, I still get chills when I see these babies in action. I hope to be serving alongside them some day soon, joining up with the Armour Brigade.. Maybe I'll spot one through the periscopes of the Challenger 2 ;) P.S. yes, my inspiration for joining up with the regulars was thanks, in part, to your wonderful videos. Please keep it up, you're making wonderful content here and we all love you for it. Thank you for your service, and thank you for continuing to serve in your own way through these videos.
Had the pleasure of driving the Warrior in Germany and BATUS (1993-1995) before taking a step down into the 432 as an 81mm Mortar Crew driver. Loved the Warrior and many happy memories of my time with this AFV (and some scary ones!). Glad to see it is still fulfilling it's role in today's British forces.
Did BATUS twice in Warrior. Also drove and maintained Warrior in Bosnia. Fantastic machines. Drivers seat laid down in your gonk bag best place to get a nice warm kip, although driving batten down with NBC kit on in the Canada heat was awful 😂 great video 👍
Does it create an issue though with only having 7 soldier capacity? UK Army much like the Australian's use 8 Man sections in their Infantry Battalion's/Regiments. If its a Mechanised Infantry Regiment I know it wont matters as they utilise 7man sections. I'm sure its fine but what if you need to be tasked to supporting other Light Infantry units who don't use such a TOE? You might have some insight Matsimus as I've only dealt with Australian Army vehicles. We have the same issue when we operate ASLAV's as they only seat 6, although for our Bushmaster IMV's it seats 9 passengers so the problem become irrelevant as we use them more for infantry manoeuvres.
I was a driver of this magnificent beast, part of the highlanders, armoured regiment of Scotland back in 05 in Iraq, was an amazing machine, we were hit by an IED we survived, but unfortunately 2 in the snatch didn't. Never forget that day, I also found the bombers video on TH-cam of the aftermath, It's heart breaking but it's life. Al amarah 05
completely agree with you matsimus. this is by far the best viehcle the British army has, and I'm glad you share my view. I was CR2 during Iraq, and I use to watch warrior all the time, so agile and nimble in the urban environment. this completely out performed cr2 in Iraq. yes we had the bad boy presence, but this machine is a true work horse. the. up armour package is every bit as good as cr2 as well. The dirty sound that boxer engine puts out is a delight. in gutted the Radon conon is going but if it keeps this beast going into the future then it's worth it. this machine and it's crew saved my life on a couple of occasions when we were dismounted from cr2 as the presence was not needed, and to say it's embarrassing when infantry mongs come to the rescue of armoured soldiers doing an infantry role, well.... I can see where they are going with Ajax, I just hope it's on a level with warrior or better.
I honestly don't like the warrior as much compared to the Bradley and the BMP3, but this was by far the most entertaining video that I watched from your channel. :D I love how you explain every little detail about the Warrior and your experiences with it, just shows how fond you are with this vehicle. And in my opinion, that's way better than the usual facts and the like. (also plus points for the hatch-barrel fail vid) keep it up my dude
I agree as a fellow recy mech I too found this to be my favourite vehicle it was a very very capable and impressive vehicle and you felt very very confident with it
I have subscribed to your channel because you have become my GOTO guy for all things British. I like the fact that the Warrior lacks gunports for the infantry crewmen. In the US we tried them on the Bradley but we found that, firing through the gunport of a moving vehicle, the average soldier couldn't hit the side of a barn even if you were driving right next to it. I do have questions about the lack of a drop-down ramp. Were there specific reasons that the MOD opted not to install one? Was the decision tactical or expense driven? Or maybe something else?
I really like the animated intro and outro. I have questions! When it comes to requiring upgrades to certain equipment or even outright replacement with a new system, how much input do the soldiers or personnel using the equipment have? The government is responsible for providing the funding for the upgrades etc, but do they ask the people on the ground their opinions?
The Warrior has just been added to the game War Thunder. But I am curious. In War Thunder, they added the Milan ATGM (Milan 2 as an upgrade) firing from a mount on top of the turret. IRL, was that added to the real Warrior?
Rather late, but a fantastically informative video. For my sins, for my day job, I design 144th scale armour for 3D printing for wargaming and am working on the Warrior currently. (Well, specifically at this point making a spirited attempt to work on the variants - FV511 at this moment it time - which is of course quite difficult, especially given that they are supposed to look like each other!) Finding a video that actually points out things like the fire extinguishers triggers and camo-netting is incredible because now I actually know what the bits are I was modelling and the little things like clonking the turret if the hatch is open is just the sort of details you don't get from sources usually.
Thanks billy! I appreciate the pictures you sent and such :-) the video you sent sadly didnt have HD so it was very pixellated and such so I had to not use it sadly. Thanks so much for your help!
excellent video, your comment about the serbian mine Johnson Beharrys VC shows the strength of Warriors armour, cant see Bradleys surviving so much punishment
Great video. Very impressive, especially the speed, obvious good ride and the armour package looks very effective. Downside, the lack of stab for the RARDEN gun, means you have to stop to fire accurately, but not a big issue. I always wondered what that rectangular hatch was on the left of the hull. Now I know.
Yeah the new 40mm bofor will be stabilized and its about time they updated it to do so. Yeah the NBC hatch is a big weakness to the vehicle sadly. too many crease points where weaknesses can occur if hit. thanks for watching and have a great day!
One of the other features I really liked was the RARDEN gun has, from memory, a three round clip? It can fire three rounds very fast with a an excellent grouping, so really enhances hitting power on a point target.
We had those rubber flaps above the tracks on the M113-series. Nobody put them on. In the motor pool, every platoon has a small CONEX, and that's where we always kept them.
chauchua Bernardo mbt's become obsolete a lot quicker than lightly armored vehicles. All you really need to do is throw a new gun in and a new power pack. It's also a great vehicle to begin with
Not quite the same comparison really. This vehicle was designed to last that long lol. So now its only just hit that time it needs upgrading or replacing. The AJAX is doing so slowly but in the meantime the MOD has seen fit to keep her rolling by just updating them to keep with the modern battlefield. Thanks so much for watching! :-)
So... lets say there was a malfunction where you couldn't stop the turret from spinning. Which would get more damage, the barrel or the hatch? Or can the system even press hard enough to cause damage to either?
Most modern AFV's have stabilised main armament. It means that the gun stays locked on to the target even if the vehicle is going over rough ground, so it can fire accurately on the move. The Rarden can't be fired on the move if you want to hit the target.
DeltaHardcore Almost every British armoured vehicle has a "boiling vessel" on board. They usually look a bit like bread machines. They can do everything from boil water to cook, depending on the skill/inventiveness of the crew.
Dogs Nads Sounds like the US military. Ignore the ability to make hot meals and hot drinks for thirty years while in the depths of winter in Germany, but adopt it as soon as they see it in a desert.
So, let's say a shape charge detonates on the stand-off slats: Is the extra space actually going to make much of a difference, given the armor is already so thin, or is the slat armor primarily placed in hopes of busting the rockets and ATGMs?
Davito2000 Warriors have taken hits from ATGM's and RPG's before they had the cage armour, that is just one armour package. The ones we had in Bosnia in 1992 had Chobham armour add on. The cage armour itself does work effectively in either deforming the shaped charge, increasing the standoff so the effect is greatly diminished and has even stopped a round which became wedged in between the slats. Its a cheap and very effective system that has been in use for decades.
Chaz t Thanks for the reply. I can see slat armor busting or catching a shell, but the thought of distance from detonation making such a big difference is astounding. The thought of a hypervelocity jet of molten metal being undone by a matter of inches is mind-bending.
Davito2000 Its the way the 'jet' forms, it has an optimum distance that is like a focal point. Too far and it is not focused, too close and it goes out of focus again. In both those cases the 'jet' does not have a point for penetration but a larger surface are, which means it can peneteate much less.
Great video, thanks! I've heard that it's not unknown for soldiers to lose an arm or leg if that rear hatch closes on it. Does it really need to be powered? I assume it's just too heavy to open and close by hand? Also, I was wondering why UK Warriors never went down the route of adding TOW missiles, like the Kuwaiti ones did. I get that you said it just wasn't UK doctrine to use them that way, but it seems like a significant bit of firepower lost. Wondering if perhaps the real reason is the added cost and complexity missiles would bring, along with reduced space inside if reloads were carried. Anyway, great vid. Would love to see one that went into detail on the new upgrades and new turret when they get into service.
Graham Kennedy the main reason for not including more firepower is that the brittish army essentially use these as battlefield minibuses and these are always supported by Chalenger which has all the firepower you could ever need
Graham Kennedy If you give them a weapon then they'll use it. You don't want to go drawing attention to yourself by encouraging them to play tank or tank killers. Tank killing, if really needed, is what the self loading cargo is there for. The design concept really is battle taxi.
Thanks for watching! Glad you liked the video :-) We mainly didnt use the TOW because our IFV's are ALWAYS supported by CR2 and therefore negated the need for a anti tank system as the infantry had the kit to do that role :-)
Using dedicated ATGM vehicles was not uncommon in Cold war european forces. Germany for example had the Jaguar (armed with HOT) a very low and fast platform. Marder IFV only had a MILAN mount and that was the squad Milan mounted outside if needed
HAHA! all AFV's have a 'BV' or boiling vessel inside to make food and brews lol! And the drivers hatch is thin but can be up armoured and is slanted. Thanks for watching!
I realize that if you have enemy infantry right next to your vehicle you probably have larger problems to worry about than this, but does the warrior have any mechanical barrier to someone walking up and just setting off the fire prevention system on the crew?
Hey seth! Thanks so much for watching! I really appreciate that! I hope you enjoy many more videos in the future! Have a great day and thanks for watching! :-D

Section commander (fellow dismount in the back next to me) got knocked out from the blast and had to get evacuated along with crew but everyone was OK. Didn't feel 100 percent safe inside and a few guys died in our battlegroup died from ied blasts inside them but felt so much safer than I would in a snatch which i was in on telic 7. Driver in my platoon was killed by a sniper on a strike op in basrah City in the early hours of the night, his name was Barber and had left his hatch open for ten minutes to let his sweat evaporate.
I seem to remember that gkn Sankey were commisioned to evaluate the Bradley ifv and basically said it was not fit for purpose. They then built this with a none stabilised and far inferior gun. The Bushmaster is effective to twice the distance and the vehicle was already proven and in production just ready to be bought without all the r and d costs. Wonder who benefitted from that?

@@JericoLionhearth You have to be kidding me. Lockheed Martin rolls the modernization in billions $
@@HanSolo__ yeah well, Lockheed Martin doesn't operate in my country and most of the domestic production is in small arms and ammunition. XD we had to resort to WW2 tactics of strapping logs to our M113s during the battle for Marawi.
Jerico Lionhearth The Islamic State Province of Marawi fought like lions...
I loved working on this vehicle and was actually bored during a Med Man exercise because the vehicle was so reliable. Apart from the CRARRV this was my favourite vehicle to command/drive. Great video.
My ccf commander was commanding the Warrior that rode over the Serbian anti tank mine in Bosnia, there is a clip about it from a BBC documentary
God the warrior is such a beautiful vehicle. Wish we had a proper one in Arma. Great video and insight!!
I love my 512, look after it and it looks after you, it is as you say a dream to drive, so much so that me and my driver who is also a commander take turns who gets to have fun :)
I've always thought the Warrior could have used a ATGM system...
Lowlander 2004 like a TOW missile? Hell yeah that would make it more independent
I was just going to write the same thing. The German Marder has the Milan 3 why not the Warrior.
Some of them were equipped with Milan, later replaced with Javelin.
Great review. Very informative. Classic piece of kit!
Awesome video as per. Matsiums, its fast approaching your fourth year, I can't believe it. You really execute in your videos- and I can't wait to support you and continue watching and bore my Wife (how?!) for many years to come once I am settled in Canada!! Appreciate you man
In Canada 1994 one of these went over a hill and landed on a land Rover, the lad in the Rover sadly did not survive.
it would sound like something from top gear if it did not result in the tragic lose of a life.
I always learn from your work! Thank you so much!
Thanks man! Glad you liked it and learnt a little from it. Thanks for watching and have a good day!

Having had a drive of one of the Scotts guards Warriors, whilst the driver drove my Chieftain back in 1990 I have to agree Mtsimus. What an awesome vehicle!
That was a great video. Thank you for your time and effort in making all your videos.
Maybe I'll spot one through the periscopes of the Challenger 2 ;)
P.S. yes, my inspiration for joining up with the regulars was thanks, in part, to your wonderful videos.
I'm loving the walk around tour format for the vid!
British Army uses a 7 man section for warrior. loses 1 rifle.
I was a driver of this magnificent beast, part of the highlanders, armoured regiment of Scotland back in 05 in Iraq, was an amazing machine, we were hit by an IED we survived, but unfortunately 2 in the snatch didn't.
Never forget that day, I also found the bombers video on TH-cam of the aftermath,
It's heart breaking but it's life.
I love how you explain every little detail about the Warrior and your experiences with it, just shows how fond you are with this vehicle. And in my opinion, that's way better than the usual facts and the like. (also plus points for the hatch-barrel fail vid)
keep it up my dude
I agree as a fellow recy mech I too found this to be my favourite vehicle it was a very very capable and impressive vehicle and you felt very very confident with it
Best vehicle I ever drove......loved it .
Thanks for the vid.
Completely unrelated but... What is the really first intro song we hear? The guitar gave me goosebumps !
I didn’t understand the last bit at the end, about driving it. Something about a semi-auto box, no levers and a sort of small steering wheel?
I really like the animated intro and outro. I have questions! When it comes to requiring upgrades to certain equipment or even outright replacement with a new system, how much input do the soldiers or personnel using the equipment have? The government is responsible for providing the funding for the upgrades etc, but do they ask the people on the ground their opinions?
none
I was a warrior driver during the Iraq invasion in 2003. The best infantry fighting vehicle in the world.
Better than bradley?
Being a British vehicle I find it a little bit odd the driver's sat in the left side of it. Great watch, thanks!
Thanks how real men drive.
Hey Matsimus, where do you get your footage? It's always so crisp!
Brill vid mate, defo use this as a revision aid when next running a course.
What do you think of the GKN Simba AIFV?
It can fire three rounds very fast with a an excellent grouping, so really enhances hitting power on a point target.
three indeed :-)
We had those rubber flaps above the tracks on the M113-series. Nobody put them on. In the motor pool, every platoon has a small CONEX, and that's where we always kept them.
40 years? Its like using a sherman tank in operation desert storm
chauchua Bernardo mbt's become obsolete a lot quicker than lightly armored vehicles.
The RE used the Centurion in Granby.
The Bradley was around for about the same time frame as the warrior and it has proven itself quite capable as well.
Mr9Guns The BFV and the Warrior do look very similar
So... lets say there was a malfunction where you couldn't stop the turret from spinning. Which would get more damage, the barrel or the hatch? Or can the system even press hard enough to cause damage to either?
So, it has to stop to fire? Thanks for the video!
Oh, and one more question, with aluminum armor does it have an interior Kevlar lining to prevent spalling?
Is that intro music a version of the intro to “stranger in a strange land” ?
What does the unstabilised rarden cannon mean. Is it like not safely put into the IVF or is it just kind of makeshift?
Greenultraj 168 unstabilised just means it won’t adjust upright when on an incline
Most modern AFV's have stabilised main armament. It means that the gun stays locked on to the target even if the vehicle is going over rough ground, so it can fire accurately on the move. The Rarden can't be fired on the move if you want to hit the target.
Ive heard that the Challenger 2 has an electric kettle. Is that true?
DeltaHardcore Almost every British armoured vehicle has a "boiling vessel" on board. They usually look a bit like bread machines. They can do everything from boil water to cook, depending on the skill/inventiveness of the crew.
iatsd
Good waay to keep up moral. Didnt know that more then the chally had water boilers.
They will also need a Dominos Bradley, a Pizza Hut Bradley, a McDonalds Bradley, a Burger King Bradley and a Papa Johns Bradley.
After the first Gulf War the US Army having seen BV's in action now equips most of it's AFV's with them. They knew a great thing when they saw it.
Enjoyed that. Keep it up.
Bloody great vid man!!
james midd thanks so much James mate! :-D I really appreciate it! Could you do me a huge favour and share it around on Facebook and such for me? :-)
Yeah man no problem, away to send it to all my boys in 7 Scots! You got any tips for someone whos army assessment is in a month?
Very solid vehicle and a real Warrior. Very glad that the WCSP will keep them in active service until 2040.
But what are its tea making abilities ;)
Maybe it was just the angle but that drivers hatch look incredibly thin.
HAHA! all AFV's have a 'BV' or boiling vessel inside to make food and brews lol!
What's that yellow thing at the front of the gun the infantry had in the first clip?
Meridian blank firing attachments. They allow the firearms to fire blank training ammunition
Matsimus Gaming Thank you
Hey Matsimus big fan I saw your channel 3 days ago and I subscribed after the second video. Keep up the good work!
Hey seth! Thanks so much for watching! I really appreciate that! I hope you enjoy many more videos in the future! Have a great day and thanks for watching! :-D
Matsimus Gaming could you do one on the M48? My favorite is the M48A5. And I think some Middle Eastern countries use them.
Hey Matt, could you d one of these vids on the Marder IFV? thanks
What's with the completly unarmored tracks?
awesome machine. one of those I've heard so many stories about in my career.
Love the warrior. I was a warrior gunner in the gulf war and it was a joy. Always find the gap between this and what we had before, the 432, was funny. Especially since the Germans had a the marder in the 70’s. The warrior is like a battlefield sports car 💙❤️💙
In the gulf war I was in mcts , the rest of Milan had post mounts on the warriors borrowed from are German camp next door as they had them on the Luchs .
One of your best videos yet ! Thank you this will be so much better with a 40mm gun. :) I once worked with a guy that had been with those wacked by the A10's in 1991 when he was with the Warriors.
Thanks so much! Gald you enjoyed it! I think the 40mm gun is a very good update for this vehicle. its about time to :-) have a great day!
Matsimus Gaming Thank you. :)
It is one BEAUTIFUL piece of machinery! No doubts about it! Never seen its inside - never even seen one in action with my own eyes, but the few lads I've known told me plenty enough about it.
Is the second sight on the top of the turret an independent sight for the commander?
Yes, each crew member in the turret has their own sight. thanks for watching!
Thanks for answering my question and I hope you keep making great rids :)
Very informative. Thank you!
hey Matsimus, are you going to make a video on the M1A2 SEPv3 Abrams, and M2A3 Bradley?
In the future yes :-)
Is the Warrior employed in Afghanistan? I've seen Britts operating together with Danish CV90s in Helmand Province, but not seen Warriors. I've heard stories of Warriors taking out Serb T55s in former Yugoslavia in the 90s
MrCapKorzeniowski Serbia didn't use T-55's in the 90's only Zastava M-84 (T-72) and I beleve Some T-34-85's
Will it have Milan 3 or TOW? I think it is a serious omission if it doesn't.
Matsimus have U play the warrior in war thunder n if so what do you think of it in the game ?

Mate stop calling Thales ""fales;" the pronunciation is "Talis" as in 'Alice.' While you may think that is wank, so is the pronunciation 'through', 'Siobhan', 'Sion,' 'Anthony'' and 'Xavier' none of which American/Hollywood fuck-wits can pronounce. Don't be like them FFS!
VaucluseVanguard lol you sound like a ten year old in a tantrum man....
Matsimus Gaming can you make a video on the ah1w it would be cool to hear your opinion on it
What part of the army where you in matsimus my grandad was in the Royal Army Service Corps he drove the amphibious assault vehicle and the 3 ton Bedford in the 50s he also fired the L1A1 and Bren and sten and the Lee Enfield Jungle Carbine. He was also in the parade where the Royal Army Service Corps was changed to the Royal Corps of Transport he left the army a few months after it was changed after that the Royal Corps of Transport was changed to the Royal Logistics Corps which is the name of it today.
What is the music in the intro? (or bit before the title screen)
was that you in the commanders hatch ?
Very good video mate. do you have any detailed info about the crew compartments like drawing personal pics you could share please?
Nice try putin
Where the hell did you find footage of a sunny day on the heath. Or is it CGI because I swear I don't remember ever spending more than an hour their without getting soaked.
Was a dismount on telic 10 with the 2nd battalion royal Welsh. On my second op an efp ied smashed through the engine block and disabled the vehicle.
What is the song called at 17:51?
