I was busy raising my children when this series came out. First time of seeing this. My son was once a firefighter. I can’t wait to share this with him. Thank you for posting. ❤
Irwin Allen loved fire movies...the Towering Inferno was my all time favourite....as a fire fighter I'm glad the times have changed, couldn't imagine speeding to fire hanging on the back of a rig or not have proper PPE ...
I was a firefighter in the Erwin Allen era (1980 and 90's.) That was "proper" PPE at that time, and I've rode the tailboard to calls several times. You are right though; the times have changed and the technology of today allows us to do a better job and be safer doing it. At 66 I'm still an active firefighter, although now I drive tankers or function as an engineer.
Thanks in part to the movie "The Towering Inferno" stricter fire codes and laws were enacted. After watching the movie I became much more aware of fire exits, purchased a few fire escape ladders for my apartment. Thankfully more apartment complexes that are being built are now required to have water sprinklers. Anything that makes the public aware of the dangers of a fire, prevention, escape etc is something to be proud of.
He was a very busy guy. He was the creator of The Voyage Beneath the Sea, Lost in Space, The Land of the Lost and those shows were on tv at the same time, too! And he did the Poseidon movies, and other disaster films like Airport. I was surprised to learn his career in entertainment started as a disc jockey in North Dakota.
I sit corrected......it was not a failed pilot. To be fair to myself I was stationed in West Germany when this series ran on ABC and AFN ( Armed Forces Network ) had only one channel.
I remember this show. Used to love it. Too bad it only lasted a season. Also Adam Rich who recently passed away was cast fresh off his role as Nicholas Bradford on Eight is Enough.
@@chucklehman5319 As a boy just a few years younger than Adam at the time I don't recall it bothered me. I just wanted to be Danny because he got to hang around firefighters. But upon rewatching it now I did not remember it being so focused on Danny. Thought it focused more on the fire drama, sort of like Emergency did with its rescues. But being an Irwin Allen production I guess Allen tried to tick all the Lost in Space boxes making Adam the Will Robinson on the show and focusing in on his character.

The " SMS " Platform looks like something that would have been designed by Gerry Anderson to be deployed from Thunderbird 2 to rescue people from high rise fires.
Glad you enjoy it. Adam Rich died at his Los Angeles home on January 7, 2023, at the age of 54. The L.A. County Medical Examiner's autopsy report indicates the actor died from an accidental fentanyl overdose.
I'd love to know where this was found (and in such good shape, too). I mean, I watched this series, in its original run, 40+ years ago. And as far as I know, it has never been rerun. Nor has it ever been released, physically.
It's fairly available: www.ecrater.com/p/40946388/code-red-1980-the-complete-studio?gps=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwpompBhDZARIsAFD_Fp8lo34SlBV_oB4tICl5eJbXgUt9DIi7IQMIawYL8giTuPC-7XU_kPUaAot6EALw_wcB Thanks for the visit!
hey, anyone see the resemblance of this movie to the one called "backdraft" with alec Baldwin, ~1995-97? same theme, arson investigator, rookie, is this where the idea for that one came from??
Allen's are the only movies worth watching anymore with the great exceptions of Spielberg's, Lucas's of course, the great ones names. Trapped by his own arson - stupid fool. Don't forget the kids cat! I need an adoptive family like that.
I found it really amusing when our heroine got all bent outa shape when the other firefighter made a comment that she took as sexist, her “I know how to do my job” was fine, right up to the point she couldn’t get he B.A (breathing apparatus) on without help, but she didn’t get upset by that, go figure. How on earth would anyone be able to hear the faint cry for help that the second kid @ 12:42 made, he was two floors above the firefighters and with the sound of the fire and the hose/water made it would be impossible, if your going to make a film/tv show about firefighters at least make it as realistic as possible. Do all American arson investigators carry concealed firearms, or is it just for the show.
Not the same without the BRAT ADAM RICH Surprising what a central character he was, sort of a "Little Hoss" Iconic Child Actor with the JOHNNY RAMONE haircut.
This was the pilot for the ABC TV Series (www.imdb.com/title/tt0081843/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1), which was produced by Irwin Allen Productions and aired from 1981-1982. Thanks for the visit!
Whatever possessed Lorne Greene to participating in this shit show??? It's as bad as the first season of Battlestar Gallactica with way worse supporting cast.
Oh I love Irwin Allen tv movies, particularly the over dramatic music - just brilliant 😍
Welcome.
Yes they are great - So over acted and over done they are fun to watch

Was stationed in Germany and Korea and rented more movies during those years due to lack of current American TV shows.

Adam Rich was the only part of the show I didn't like. As the show progressed, it seemed the show was getting more focused on him.

They used to have a saying in the film industry.......
If the movie looks like a real Disaster it must be an Irwin Allen Production.
