- The Greatest Commandment: We love each other!
1) Song: I’ll Do My Best
2) In today’s story, Jesus is asked a question by a person trying to trick him. He’s asked, “Which of God’s commandments is most important?” A commandment is like a law or a rule. Jesus’ answer tells us that LOVE is the most important of God’s commandments.
With your family, make a list of ways that you can show love to one another and to others outside of your family.
3) Find a piece of paper and draw your favorite way to show love to others.
4) Listen to the Story
5) Family service: Show some loving kindness! Decide on one thing you can do together to show love to someone else. Maybe you can weed a neighbor’s garden or deliver a drawing or some cookies to a friend or read a book to a younger cousin online. Make a plan to do it this week! You can even share what you’re doing online or with Pastor Tim!
6) Neighbor: When Jesus tells us to love our neighbor as ourselves, who does he mean? Who is your neighbor? Are neighbors just the people who live next door? Or are neighbors everyone you meet and everyone you’re connected to.
With your family decide, who is your neighbor.
Is Pastor Tim your neighbor?
Is the governor your neighbor?
Is your teacher your neighbor?
Is your friend from school your neighbor?
Is someone living in Guatemala or Ethiopia your neighbor?
(Hint, in God’s world, we’re ALL neighbors. So when Jesus tells us to love our neighbor, he means that we should love everyone!)
7) Song: Psalm 25
To you O Lord I lift up my soul
In you I trust O Lord (x2)
Higher than the mountains, deeper than the sea
Wider than the ocean is your love for me
You’re with me on the mountain, the valley below
You are right here beside me everywhere that I go
8) Song: The Hippo Song
End with prayer.
Dear God, we love you with all our hearts, all our souls, and all our minds. Help us to love everyone. Amen.
