Thats ok. Sharon was still able to slaughter innocent unarmed civilians with near-zero penalties by permitting the 3-day massacre in the Sabra-Shatila camps. You can freely visit the camps today and the people are very kind, but almost nothing has been rebuilt since the civil war, sadly.

The only reason Sheikh Bachir Gemayel was in contact with them was because the Lebanese Christians were the enemy of everyone in the region who were trying to take over our country. Also relations with our neighbors was better than having one more enemy against us. The isrealis never wanted to take over Lebanon all they were doing was getting rid of the mess that the Palestinians caused and spread into proxy militias that divided the Lebanese people.

I as a Christian Lebanese, would like and hope Isreal/America will do something very drastic and must be done if Lebanon and the Lebanese people want to live in peace..... from what I've been observing hizballshaytan/ hizballah.. shame on them using the name of God as a milita going to war against the Jewish which are the Children of God ...
Anyway hizballshaytan is the biggest problem Lebanon has...... even our own president who himself ran away to France to escape death fighting his own people Christian against Christian...
The delta Lebanese forces against the whole Lebanese Army who the General that is president now... though the army itself was also divided because it had a multi religion soldiers who swore to protect their country so it was a big mess and may God have mercy on all the innocent blood they both shed.... then Syria came swept us easily because we were busy killing each others....
So I would love for Israel and America to do something to change this extremely extremely corrupted government.....
Our president is a puppet for hizballshaytan he goes against them he knows he's a dead man... like many others who stand in their way.... I certainly know now many Lebanese Christians won't agree with what I'm saying.... I tell them you people are blinded by politicians that are blinded because of the money they steal.....
Lebanon needs a government not a mafia.... some who can oppose and not run with their schemes....
Just try to compare the Israeli government with the Lebanese it's not possible... because even with corruption in many countries like Israel, there's still a law that works and brings people to be judged in the courts... in Lebanon we don't have that they blame the paper boy who doesn't know a thing they're doing the poor people who they can take advantage of.... Israel is a very beautiful country and it was built around the same time as Lebanon... Israelis follow the law on the streets and have a very clean and safe cities... total opposite of Lebanon.
We could have been there with them if we just stood with them strong because in the end Christians are very different from Islam we have the King of Peace Yesua al massih.... Jesus the Messiah the only true Savior... no other..
Muslims want to try and erase Israel and they call Israel the enemy..most or many many Lebanese then also call Israel the enemy because they don't know who the real threat is... they say if Israel is bombing Lebanon then that's it .. they're enemies... I personally love Isreal and Israelis especially the people who follow my Savior Jesus Christ the Messiah...
Islam denies Jesus and his Father and Holy Spirit, the main three that are ONE body... and so we are a part of the trinity.
I live in a building that is full of Muslims. Christians. Jews .Atheist. Hindus and all kinds of different religions and we are all living in peace... why is it that Islam still not stopping the killing 🤔.
Because I believe and that's only my opinion... that Islam is a culture of kingship and ruling authorities with the sword... that's how Islam grew by shedding blood... In the Bible Jesus says killing for revenge as in eye for an eye and so on is not the way of life.. he said
IAM the last sacrifice I will save you from death if you just listen and follow my footsteps and no one else's...
I can keep going on and on ....
I really enjoyed this documentary thank you and God bless 🙏

The initial mission of the Marines was securing PLO withdrawal; that was accomplished.
Upon the Marines Redeployment, the Marines were issued orders Not to return fire when fired upon. The Marines were ordered to patrol the streets of Beirut without magazines in their M16 ie advertising their vulnerability.
When the Marines finally engaged, it was too little too late.
The Marines’ sudden withdrawal after the barracks bombing, was a major moral defeat to US military image in the middle east and a turning point in history.
Under these rules of engagement, Weinberger’s initial advice was on target.

History of Lebanon shows overwhelmingly the massacre of Christians by Muslims being minimal compared to the other way around. Christian militants during the civil war were much more brutal especially with Palestinians, the Shabra/Shatila massacres were committed by Christians loyal to Syria to make Israel look bad and help force their exit from the country to also Syria to gain more control.

We pray every day that the people of Lebanon could be free and independent, because only on that day will there be peace and open boarders. That said, it will be far easier to achieve with Lebanon than with the Palestinians. This seems like a pretty pro-israeli take. They were the ones who surrounded the camps and "asked" the phelanges to go in. How can you say they were less responsible. Also, by most definitions, Zionism is a nationalistic ideology and calling any criticism of Zionism antisemitism is pretty much a biased right wing point of view. Zionism is a nationalistic ideology that advocates for a national home for the Jewish people. It's not related to Judaism as a religion in any way or form.
Also, the Kahan report is less biased? So the Israelis writing a report about themselves and deciding that they were not responsible is not biased? That's like cops investigating themselves and always coming out clear

This seems pretty biased towards Israel. I don’t know how you can say Zionism doesn’t advocate for an ethnic state when that is the express goal of right wing israeli parties. It is also pretty suspect to compare IRA sympathies to nazi sympathies. The IRA certainly had racist members but the organization as a whole saw the struggle of Palestinians as similar to their own struggle against England. And your whole “the guy cleaning the toilets at the reichstag logic doesn’t make any sense and seems like you equate criticism against Israeli army actions as criticisms towards the entire citizenry of Israel. Also that logic is literally an extension of the Nuremberg defense which Jews themselves criticize

McBride left the IRA in the late 30s becoming a prominent human rights lawyer, politician, academic, and diplomat. While he was a member of the IRA, it was actually sympathetic to Zionism.
McBride himself was on the left wing of the army.

I'm a longtime visitor to the region and lived in Lebanon for 2 years and Palestine for 6, I work in humanitarian aid. I must say I think you give a very good explanation and breakdown of the Sabra-Shatila massacre and how Israel just kind of, well, backed off and not cared (yet still controlled entry/exit and helped lighting at night). Journalist Robert Fisk was one of the first to make it in an his recounting is horrible (he also saw what the Syrians did in Hama in the same year - a much forgotten event).
That said, the opening provides one bit of misinformation. "After a string of terror attacks, the IDF..." indeed in the past there had been attacks via organizaitons within the PLO (Fateh, PFLP-GC) from Lebanon. But the impetus for the final decision to invade was not at all related to the PLO or any member organization. It was an attack by the Abu Nidal group, a effectively, mercenary terrorist group that had its own agenda.
It was the attempted assassination of Amb. Shlomo Argov, the Israeli ambassador to the UK on June 3, 1982. It was found by investigators that the next target on their list in the UK was the PLO ambassador to the UK. The PLO at the time was courting Europe and America and had zero interest in such attacks - it had its own public offices well known in most European capitals. So why?
Abu NIdal's group (ANO) attacked both Israeli and PLO almost equally. It tried to kill Yasser Arafat several times and Abbas once. In 1991, Abu NIdal assassinated in his home Arafat's #2, Abu Iyad and a few security chiefs in Tunis. He was definitely nuts, later claiming responsibility for IRA attacks, and even claimed credit for blowing up the US Space Shuttle Challenger! He was hired for a few years by Iraq in the 1970s-80s and then later by Libya, until he was kicked out in 1999 and fled back to Iraq (where he was eventually killed). I read in one place, he later sold his bombing services between Turkey and Greece during their conflict over Cyprus, but I cant find it now.
Anyway, that was the excuse Min. of Defense Ariel Sharon wanted to use to invade, but had nothing to do at all with anyone in Lebanon.

after the plo withdrawal from west beirut, a peace keeping force of us, french, and italian troops landed . the were supposed to stay for 2 months i think to protect the remaining palestinians and insure all goes well ....keep in mind that the idf were still surrounding west beirut ...
for some mysterious reason , the us and the others withdrew their troops after 2 weeks !
a few days later bachir gets wacked, the idf enters beirut against all promises, to maintain peace they claimed....2 days later sabra and chatila massacre take place under israeli supervision ...

a few notes about your comments on the sabra and shatila massacre:
    • on israel repeatedly asking the lebanese army to clear the camp out before the phalangists did: that is at best questionable and at worst misrepresentation on your end. the only source for israel repeatedly asking the lebanese army to come into the camp is Jillian Becker's 1984 "PLO: The Rise and Fall of the Palestine Liberation Organization" book. from wikipedia:
"The PLO: The Rise and Fall of the Palestine Liberation Organization was commissioned by Weidenfeld & Nicolson and published in 1984. Becker spent months in Lebanon during the war in which Israel drove the PLO out of that country. She claimed to have retrieved secret documents from ruins of bombed PLO office buildings and to have interviewed Lebanese of all denominations and Palestinians who had experienced PLO oppression, as well as supporters, members and leaders of the PLO."
so the source is practically "dude trust me" as she never presented said documents, ALSO the book itself distorts reality. www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.2307/2537028?journalCode=rpal20 see this. becker misrepresents the sale of palestinian lands to jewish people before 1948. hardly a source you should put in a video that aims to inform viewers on history without at least informing them about the source's issues
you also neglected to mention that israel and lebanon being at war, had israel provably asked the lebanese army to clear out the camp before the phalangists did, they may have seen it as a trap. you neglected to mention israel's history with lebanon- nobody forget the hula massacre. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hula_massacre in case you weren't aware- the guy was brought to court but received a presidential retroactive amnesty. he even became director general of the jewish agency. why would the lebanese government trust an enemy of war that had previously committed a massacre against its population?
    • on the israeli government not intending for the massacre to happen, while you are entitled to your opinion, most of the witnesses' accounts go contrary to it. the IDF shelled sabra and shatila. there's also a lot of reports from israeli and phalangists sources that support the notion the IDF bombarded lebanese civilians without discrimination. General Mordecai Gur supported the notion with regards to the 1978 invasion of South Lebanon. source: David Hirst's Beware of Small States, which itself references an Israeli newspaper.
    • on your comment about how the phalangists could just have been joking, that's incredibly naive and disappointing as far as arguments go. their leader was assassinated by the PLO and the phalangists had committed MULTIPLE atrocities against palestinians and lebanese. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_massacres_in_Lebanon for reference (tel al-zaatar, ehden, safra). you've neglected to mention that context, i doubt you did so willingly but there is no way they could have just been joking. also,
"On 24 March 1970 a squad of Phalange militiamen led by Bashir Gemayel ambushed a PLO funeral cortege heading for Damascus when it passed through the Christian village of Kahale in the Aley District, killing ten people and wounding an even greater number, mostly Palestinians."
there is absolutely no way the israelis just interpreted it as a joke.
overall i feel quite disappointed with your representation of the sabra and shatila massacres. nobody is expecting you to pick sides and you are entitled to your opinion but it feels like you downplayed a LOT of things with regards to it.

some things i'd like to add:
      • i've conducted that research as impartially as i could. i believe in the right to a state where jewish people can live with full rights guaranteed to them, as well as palestinians, as equals.
      • i can provide a first-hand account on the IDF's behavior towards civilians. i lived in lebanon during the war of 2006 and lived in a poor, residential "neighborhood", in choueifat, beirut. i say "neighborhood" because it was four apartments and some shops in the middle of nowhere. but anyhow- we had to leave lebanon for syria when israel launched its invasion and when we came back there were huge holes all over our apartment. this isn't just anecdotal evidence however, there are tons of reports from israeli sources that support my claim. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allegations_of_war_crimes_in_the_2006_Lebanon_War#Targeting_of_civilian_targets_by_Israel see this for reference
HOWEVER it's not all bad- there were many in the IDF that avoided civilian casualties. "On 6 August 2008, Yonatan Shapiro, a former Blackhawk helicopter pilot dismissed from reserve duty after signing a 'refusnik' letter in 2004, said that some Israeli fighter pilots had deliberately missed targets in order to avoid harming civilians, as disquiet grew in the military about flawed intelligence"
      • david hirst is a controversial historian who has been banned in six arab states. however the sources he references are verifiable unlike your source for the israeli government asking the lebanese army to come into the camp.

The PLO didn't kill Bachir Gemayel you idiot. Tal Al Zaatar was a battle which lasted about a month or two. Not a massacre, check your own sources. Ehden and Safra were battles as well, Ahrar is a militia and so was Marada.
