    Amazing machine.. the fact that it is still in the family, and can be enjoyed for generations to come. Just goes to show you that things were built to last back then. Unstoppable... Impeccable engineering.. I didn't even ride it, but I felt like I was right there with you.. Well filmed.. Sir.

    I had a '72 Olympique in the early '70s and rode with machines like yours. Great fun back then!!

    I had one just like this in 1972. I rode it to school every day.We called it "big 12" It was a 250, single, 12 hp. On flat hard pack, it would hit about 35-40 wide open!

    I purchased two really old skidoo olympique snowmobiles, a 1971 and 1972, and built one good machine out of the two, for a winter project last year, was able to get a few new parts that still exists, now everything works including the lights, engine decompressor, new carb kit ect. I also have two other sleds a long track Yamaha bravo and a modified Polaris Indy 500, but the little Olympique is the most fun ever, extremely tippy, it rattles a lot and is quirky to ride😁 it's history in motion.... Took it out ice fishing at few times, and she didn't let me down. You should have seen the crowd when I pulled up on the lake with this vintage iron, everyone loved it and was shocked that I came from so far away with such an old machine.... it was a lot of work to restore, and it's not done yet, but well worth it.👍

      nice sled, nice story. I wouldn't call it "really old" though, anything pre 1969 would be "really old" but once you get into the 70's, not so much.

    I use to have a 1968 370 in High School. You brought back a lot of memories. The only thing I didn’t like was the dim headlights. Now a days that would be an easy fix.

    very cool ride video. I really like the ride by action shots. I spent my youth riding a 1966 Olympique "S" with the 14 hp dual carb Rotax. My family had two plus a Ski Boose. I wish I had them now.

    Those old Olyimpic's,... in 1970 they made a 12/3,... a 335,... and a 399 twin,... if you had to go through snow covered swamp grass,... you alway's sent the 12/3 first,... they would NEVER spin out,... perfect power to weight ratio,... and the clutching was right on,... they were fun........

      Had the 335 as a learner sled in the 70’s. We added ski stance widening kit and on a tight trail you couldn’t catch it. Tilotson needle valve liked to freeze up tho. A friend had the 12/3

    My dad brought a brand new 1969 Olympic 320e home in the winter of 69. We rode the death out of that poor old sled, every kid in the neighborhood learned to ride on that thing. I found another one identical to it a few years ago and bought it. It was sold at the same dealership by the same salesman that sold my dad the original one. Those were the days.

    I envied my friends that had all that power back then, I was on a '64 that was only 9.2 HP. In the spring when the snow started to melt we could run on top of the crust in the morning. We would get out early and run up and down mountains in the Kilkenny range in northern NH.

Super-X Drive Belt - LMX-1034 this is the belt I use. not sure if any of this will help, If i think of anything else, been a long time that I rebuilt it, but did just put this new belt on it this season.

      @@mainetroutwhisperer There should be a nut on the back on that rod, that can be moved to increase the tensin on the belt, make sure all your nuts are good and tight also, put lock washers if they are loosening on you.

I would like to make who ever designed the hood with like, what feels like1000 nuts and bolts holding it on lol, make them come and take it off LOL Glad they went to much easier later on. Got subscribe, Great number, I am still trying to get to my first 1000.

      @@mainetroutwhisperer I know it's a redicilous law. My neighbor has antique tags on a Miata. Redicilous shit. If I was a lawmaker I would say 1939 and prior is antique and 1940-1979 classic tags

    • @mainetroutwhisperer
      @mainetroutwhisperer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rexjolles as far as snowmobiles are concerned.. I think 60’s era should be antiques…there’s not a ton of sleds out there prior to that. I know they made “snowmobiles” earlier than that, but skidoo’s didn’t launch until 1959. It really got popular in he 70s. It’s a little different than cars I think.
