Another Awesome Viedo!!
Priceless Knowledge at your fingertips, My Best ,My Friend!!!!
Great editing and video so informative. Thanks for putting out different high quality content!!
Amazing content. Highly enjoyed mentally checking off books that I own, that appeared on this list.
Thanks Shane! Definitely, and I like this list too because it does speak to the importance of a book better than the sheer value of a typical copy. Iron Man 1, NM 98, ASM 300...and so forth are all in the top 100. Always good to receive a comment from you.
Really interesting concept and the value equates to the popularity overall of the character. A good way to assess if a comic has over heated. I am sure it wont take long for other channels will pick this up 😃
Thanks Comiccollex. Yeah, we'll see if others pick the concept up. If you have the chance, check out Greg's website: slabdata.com. I was floored by how many interesting ideas he has.
1st time viewing your content. Very interesting. Keep up the great work.
Hi Guy! Appreciate the kind words, my friend. Hope to see you back.
Always great video content.
Appreciate it, Roy. Big shout out to Greg Holland. The dude is legit.
Great source for for strategic investments. Thank you for sharing.
Amazing and engaging video! Thank you! Action 252 all the way for me!
Appreciate the kind words David! Action 252 is sweet.
Interesting numbers and concept. I thought it was really cool how the top 3 turned out. I would also prefer the Action 252 in that battle.
I think I would too. Yeah, it's neat to think about the total worth of a comic book as market capitalization. MoreFun 52 is undervalued for sure :-)
Very interesting. It would be really cool to overlap this framework with things like average age, income, length of time held, etc. of the buyers. Ebay probably has some of that data. Greg's work seems like it would be valuable for predictive analytics especially combined with more demographic data.
Great thoughts waz. I'm hoping Greg reads this and can reply!
Great video! Just goes to show how popular Spiderman is.
Hi VV. No doubt. If you got to CGCGMC.com you can see how many spider-man books make it into the top 200 (it's a ton!). Appreciate your leaving a comment!
The age old question of what do I buy next, Gold, Silver or Bronze, keeps popping up?
Maybe you can do a video on the current market and WHAT is the best investment for comic collectors to buy up right now while they are not at their highest prices?
Love the channel, it’s always informative to help with these kinds of decisions. 🙏
Shew...that's a tough one tricolor. Definitely, a good idea for a video.
This is a great idea and system however, the variable of demand and popularity can sway the amc drastically. For example the moment that any character begins to be utilized for any film production their key will see a huge growth in the average cost per book. Maybe getting a 15 year average of the sales price would grant a more accurate ranking.
Hi Mr. P. Great comment. Related to your comment, Stephen Fishler from Comicconnect is starting to put out comic book impact (cbi) ratings. They are supposed to be purer indicators of a book’s importance.
Interesting to apply market cap to comics by key. I wonder what total market cap of all comic books???
Good question MB. I added up the ~400 book capiltilizations that Greg featured on his website: a hair over $3.3 billion. Of course, not all top books are slabbed and there are hundreds of thousands of other comic book issues not represented but they are worth much less. How does $10 billionish sound for a total?
some people are trying to grab all the 181s... a bunch of dealers are sitting on hoarded copies
HI Horvath. Oh yeah, hoarding goes on for every age of book...but there are lots of dealers who have dozens (or more) copies of hulk 181.
and don't forget GSXM . If all combined were flooded into the market they would be worth 5.00. Theres that many out there
Hmmm… I wonder, if I could own all of one run of a comic such as all action comics, amazing spider man, detective comics, or Batman, which is more valuable? I bet ASM is biggest single but if I could choose one character, I would guess all of Batman is most valuable…
Hi AJ. I like how you think. Not sure if it would be Spidey or Batman but it would certainly be one of them!
Yes, but you can’t turn the Hulk 181 into cash right away as you would flood the market with 17,000 copies and prices would drop on the book, whereas with Hulk 1 that wouldn’t be a concern.
Thanks for stopping by the channel and commenting, Brian. Interesting point. What would happen if all 2,000+ copies of Hulk 1 hit the market at the same time? Would prices hold up?
People who collect sportscards will stockpile certain PSA 10's of rookies when they are cheap, this is why Gary Vee owns 150 Lebron James PSA 10 rookies that were once selling for 50K+ each during the 2021 boom, he didn't pay more than a 1k each for any of them. Same can be done for comics, but us collectors/investor want something different once we have a copy of what we want. However there is a guy on FB that likes to show off his 17 copies of 181.
hi Kevn. Yep...I know quite a few such hoarders. Even in the golden age. I've got a hoarding problem with Schomburg airbrushed covers :-) It's not because I'm trying to corner the market though...I'm just obsessed.
So, if I've calculated and understood everything correctly, my copy of FF48 is worth--roughly--$12,000,000. Sweet!
In the real world people collect one copy of a particular grail and not all of them.
Rocket! Great to hear from you, my friend. Speak for yourself. I have monopolies on several issues. HAHA. For me, personally, the comic book capitalization idea has helped me see some books in a different light. Occasionally, I can be a golden age snob and thumb my nose at a hulk 181 b/c it is so prevalent. But the fact that it's market cap competes with the major silver key may be a fairer way to evaluate its popularity/demand in the comic book world.
I thought of this concept before and figured it was a good way to see a book is over valued. A good idea would be to take the scores and compare them to what people would say are the more desirable books to own. If a book has a market cap higher than one which is a more desired book than we know it is over valued. Using this idea we could see golden age books with very small census counts being under valued.
Hi CCG. Good point. Definitely...Looking at the data -- and thinking of you -- Sensation #1 is a decent bit behind both AS8 and Wonder Woman 1. Should it be ? :-) BTW: it's my favorite among the three.
@@kestonsoldschoolcomicbooks6842 This is kind of my point. Sensation 1 should be more than WW1 because first cover is more important than first title. There were several books I would have thought would have been in the top 300 that weren't like: Chamber of Chills 19, Crime Suspenstories 22, etc.
@@ComicCollectorGeek HI CCG. Glad to hear we are on the same WW page :-) Yeah, I thought CC19 adn CS22 would be represented as well.
Venom is way more popular than supergirl. Imagine if ASM300 had the same census count and spread as Supergirl!
Hi Dan! Great to see you. That's the beauty of this system: you see what is "out of whack" to your personal sensibilities and act accordingly. To Greg, the Woman of Steel is under appreciated. Agree. If ASM 300 had only 1,000ish copies on CGC ---watch out!
If anyone wants to trade a hulk 1 for my 181 let me know😂
Heh, heh. maybe you'll get a taker on this thread :-)
Why does this guy need to estimate the market cap. We know how much each grade is worth and how many examples that there are in a grade. Feels like a simple excel formula as opposed to multiplying the average grade by total number of copies and then modifying the result with some subjective drivers.
Hi Ben. I like the way you think. My understanding is that GPAnalysis provides Greg with a limited data set that he merges with the CGC numbers, so he doesn't have all the information. Further, trying to estimate FMV for golden age is TOUGH with a capital T. Many of these books have 0 to a handful of copies that sell per year.
absurd way to think
Hi Darren. Tell me, more. Why do you think it is absurd?
This concept doesn't work with comics. Dudes creative but the way comics and stocks are valued are wildly different.
Hi Jonathan. Thanks for commenting. It’s definitely not a 1 to 1 correspondence but it does help me think about supply and demand for a book differently (I think more effectively too).
Fantastic video! Excellent way to explain the numbers and the equation on how to invest: Simple, methodical and to the point!! Thanks guys..
Thanks, Hernan for the kind words. Glad you liked the market cap approach!
