    The latest recommendation I received from a small engine shop is to use 20-50 non detergent oil when changing. It's necessary to "bleed" the transmission in many cases. It means getting the air bubbles out of the oil but I'm not sure how this is done.

    Good on you to make it right before you sell it. I try to do the same thing, and I will even buy them back for a full refund if they do not last a full season. Had to do it recently. Sold neighbors a Deere LA 145. Their back yard was probably too steep for that trans, and I told them that, but they liked it, and they liked my price, so it was sold. They mowed with it 6-8 times before the trans bit the dust, so I just offered to buy it back, and I am working out a deal with them. I am in the process of parting it out to recoup some of the money I have in it. I do not mind doing people right. It is a side job/hobby for me, and I have won on so many, I do not lose too much sleep over taking a loss from time to time.

      Thanks Eric. Some viewers say I put to much work in these mowers if I'm selling them but my thing is that I don't ever want them coming back. I won't lie it's happened a couple times but not to bad considering I've been doing this close to 20 years. Keep doing what you're doing bud

    Sometimes the wheels seem to rust solid to the shaft on the axles. This was reallly interesting, we have never had one of these apart before so thank you for going into a lot of detail. Great job fixing this, it works well

    A friend of mine who works on these, told me, he has fixed a number of failures caused by those caps cracking and spew fluid out. The fan blows it all around and makes a mess. The fluid gets low and the mower won't go. He replaced the cap, top of fluid, and they were back in business.

    The pan sealant you can use the silver from tuff torq or any RTV sealant, like blue or red, black. Must let dry partially to a skim coat then it’s ready to set the pan. Just for others FYI.

    Nothing more intimidating than diving into a transmission. Lucky it was nothing serious and it works great. Got me thinking I might do mine now to get some more jam out of it. I have over 400 hours on my Ford so I can see the filter being a little plugged. Glad you did this video. Thanks Dave. Stevo

    NICE VIDEO ... It is AMAZING what a NEW FILTER and NEW Fluid can do to these Tuff Torq Transaxles. The Internals of this one look exactly like the Tuff Torq K57R. on my YTH24V48 it has the Tuff Torq K57R transaxle in it and your filter system and spring setup are just like mine. I think ALL the Tuff Torq Vids Taryl has done are on the K46 Transaxle. The K57's are a little different ... Tuff Torq say they can handle 22 inch 5 lug wheels in the rear with 255/188 Nm/lb-ft axle torque, which is not alot more than the K46's, but it is more. Alot of these also will have the heat treated steel gears as well. AND one big bonus to the K57R Trans is they are ALOT faster than the K46.... at least when they are working and running correctly. :)

    Thanks for the video mate,
    I work at a school here in Australia and our Husky
    has lost drive and there are a few funny noises coming from the tranny.
    I know it won't be as easy as yours, I'm thinking busted axle or diff gears
    but after watching your video we have nothing to lose, none of the mower shops were interested
    in buying it for parts, 500hrs and the Briggs is good as gold so with some luck
    I may be able to fix it. It is a second mower anyway we use for the gnarly stuff and keep
    our new one for the big areas. It's a Ferris and as they say "Save Ferris"

    The Tuff in Tuff Torque refers to getting the fill cap off, not the actual toughness of the unit?

    How's she goin'? Good for you Dave to tackle this job. It sure looked like you could have ended up in serious trouble but since you had a back up Tuff Torq it was the thing to do eh. And you got it done!!!. Sure looks like a lot more speed. Nice job. Thanks for sharing and take care!!!

I was surprised how fast it was but when the deck goes on the weight may slow it down a little. I've been waiting for an idler pulley for the deck for 2 weeks, now they say 3 more weeks , it's frustrating

  • @mr.astrophysics9115
    @mr.astrophysics9115 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Tuff torq K46 k57 k66 are all excellent transmissions very strong but what I have seen and heard not many actually service there transmission like after 50 hours of use on a new transmission you're supposed to change the oil many don't do that and leave the brake in fluid in and just add to it..also they don't allow time to brake in the transmission when it's new and when you don't do these things expect trouble and many cases won't take very long for it to fail

    • @davessmallenginerevival2847
      @davessmallenginerevival2847  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most owners aren't going to do that. Some it seems change the engine oil once and then add or run it low till it seizes and wonder why

    • @pierrebroccoli.9396
      @pierrebroccoli.9396 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      With regards to the oil service, we are told that there is no need on the transmission for the life of the mower but like cars with their auto trans now days, it is good to service the oil and filter on occasion and pay no heed to the B.S. the manufacturer states. All they are interested in is you trashing your mower / car and buying anew one.

    my jd lx176 wouldn't pull when hot . tried straight 50 weight , then trans "medic" in a can , even added restore for engines . swapped in a 5 speed , but later tore down the hydro , block sanded the surfaces you spoke of (may have gotten the wedge turned the wrong way) and put it on the shelf . the filter might well have been the original problem , but the additives definitely clogged it . i keep wondering whether i got it fixed or not . curiosity may get the better of me one day , and i'll reinstall the hydro .

    So clogged filter = lack of fluid flow = misbehavior of unit? Caught in time means fluid and filter change yields return to proper performance?

    Hey y’all. Just came across this video, been doing some research into these hydrostatic transmissions. I have a Cub Cadet LT46 and halfway through cutting my yard, the transmission wouldn’t move in forward or reverse. I let is sit for about 20-25 minutes and I was able to take off again for a short period when it happened again. Yet again I let it sit for a bit and was finally able to finish the yard up. The mower only has 48 hours on the meter, what could the issue be?

    • @davessmallenginerevival2847
      @davessmallenginerevival2847  ปีที่แล้ว

      That low of hours I would think it's still under warranty but if not then I think it's not good because it's got to be a factory mistake of some kind. I don't really know what it is but it's definitely a heat problem because when it cools down it works again.
