How to make air bag mounts for the rear of a mini truck!

- its time to get moving on the Nissan! This thing is not finishing itself. On this episode of The Dirthead Shed I fabricate mounts for the rear air suspension. Using round tubing, plate, some Air Lift Dominator 2600 bags and a few leftover parts around the shop I get the bag mounts done. air it up and down , and confirm that its ready for the next steps.

I would like to say, that your videography skills are on point for this channel. You keep your videos short enough to not drag on, and your content is mixed enough that it is not boring to get a real in-depth single car build video. I miss seeing you and Fred tackling fun projects, but it is nice to know you two still upload content for us!
I appreciate that!. I’m enjoying it
We can always go for a longer episode of dirt head shed. Ngl.
I'm with q. I don't have time to take in 40min, 1hr, 1hr 20min episodes, this is real nice. I like your fab work and process and it doesn't take away from my evening as a whole
@@Str8sixfan I generally save all of my shows for my day off I work 12 hr nightshifts so I keep my priorities days reserved for no TH-cam videos. Then I get a full Sunday morning normally too enjoy content from every channel I watch which is 10-15 channels I also don't have to pay for cable this way which is cool.
@@josephprentice8354 yea, I just try and get out into the garage to work on days like Sunday. My free time other times of the week are better suited for a 22min episode here or there
So sweet…😂😂😂. I am really digging the air bag stuff👍🏻👍🏻
Right on. Seems like all my stuff is on air
Been waiting to see a new video on this thing for a LONG time!! Nice Dave!
Thanks for being patient. Lots of work to do!
As another old minitrucker, this is the stuff I'm here for. RootDown.
Thanks Joe!
Great Video, really enjoy the fabrication and appreciate how you explain what you are doing and why
thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching. I’m enjoying making the videos
Lady loved this episode. Said she likes fabrication as it’s similar to doing crafts.
Terina approved! Im doing a good job
@@thedirtheadshed Hekkin yeah!
I have owned several D21 Nissan Hardbody trucks over the years, and only one was a 4x4 (Yes, of course I lifted it!) The others were all 2-wheel drive and got slammed. I miss them all! I think it’s time for me to build another one, using all the skills and experience I now have…. I find your build very inspirational!!! I’m a simple guy, as well (when you pointed out that it isn’t your style to “have tubing going every which way”, I was thinking the same thing. This is one of those things where: ‘Form follows Function’. It doesn’t need to have a plate of spaghetti 🍝 for airbag mounts… it’s just a waste of tube, and added weight. I think I might go with a true “Equal-length” 4-link with a watts link setup. I’ve never done one for one of my personal trucks, so I think I should…
Keep up the great work!!
Can’t wait for the next installment!
Sounds like you are on the right track
3 link up front with a Wagoneer axle?
0:53 been waiting for this one. Was big into mini trucks going up in California. Long time ago. I’m 55 now. Always loved mini’s!
Sounds like you need another one
I had two Nissans back in the day, but they weren’t anything like that! Your metal work makes that truck look like it’s always been this way. Well done again!
Thanks! I’m looking forward to driving it again. It’s been too long
@@thedirtheadshed what's it need to run again?
16:24 Duude... I don't think you say sweet too much brah. It's you , and how you communicate. Which is awesome. Stellar work, all the best for a Great 2024. Thanks for bringing us along.
Glad you are enjoying the channel
Mini truck and mom’s spaghetti are my favorites. Keep it up!!!
Right on. Glad you like them
Bricka Bracka Firecracker

Minitruck! Minitruck! Rah Rah Rah!
I really like this truck and it's a nice change of pace from the wheelers.
Variety is the spice of life.
I totally agree.
Thanks for the video. The tips on fabrication are, I notice 4 things that will make my projects easier and more precise. You're a national treasure.
Thanks man!
I never get tired of mini truck stuff as a old MT guy my self
Nice ! Hope to get back on this one soon
After watching you for years on MT, and even a few months here, I just realized you are welding with your left hand!
Stoked to see progress on this thing. I never owned a mini truck, but man they are rad.
Yep! That’s why my welding is always questionable
Glad to see you back on the Hardbody. The Mustang is cool, but I'm a mini trucker at heart❤.
Got to keep em all moving forward
The truck is sick man. Brings me back to the late 90’s for sure
That’s the goal!
Man, you're making me miss my Toyota! Another great video, Dave!
Thanks! Time for another one
Takes me back to the day when it was all about mini trucking but the air bag technology wasn’t there so most of them were slammed and counted on suspension for the low bumpy ride. I never owned one I had a 56 big window Chevy PU with a 6” drop axle on the front and a 4” drop in the rear. Nice video and thanks for sharing!
Yep! I drove some horrible riding stuff back in the day
Have you ever used Swagelock fittings for your air ride systems? It's by far the best qualityy fitting for them, but they aren't cheap. If you're not familiar with them, they're kind of like a compression fitting, but way higher quality and you can disconnect them and reconnect them an infinite amount of times. They're the only fittings I use on air systems. Our setups could sit for many weeks and never lose any pressure. I've never used those DOT fittings you used, but they look like they'd be reliable and seal up well too.
I have not used those, but I’ve heard of them
I’m so glad you are working on the lowered Nissan
Me too. Thanks for watching
Always love seeing another of your videos posted. Never know if it’s gonna be some nasty off-road rig or something laid out, but is always quality work and a great video. To the point with no fake drama and great info
Just hangin in the shop
Very cool change of pace Dave. You have a load of skills and knowledge. Always like seeing how You put Your stuff together. I would really like to see You & Puddin do a quick Junk to Jamming Tail Dragger together. Something that would throw spark's while dragging the back bumper all the way down the road. 🤟😎
That would be fun. We talk regularly
I did hear Him say that You had texted Him or He had You. I think it would be great to see You bounce idea's off each other for sure. Well I can hope that is something We get to see in the future, if not than I will be just fine watching both of You because the content is some of the best on TH-cam. I work in a fab shop & We build Wind Tunnels for the likes of MIT Governments all over the world & even have 3 small test units in the Smithsonian. Aerolab is the name of the Co. Love going to work every day & watching talented People like You on My off time. 😁👍
That’s awesome. It sounds like a good career to be in
I feel like I worked hard for it, & got lucky too. 👍
Old Nissan Hardbodies are sicccc...
They are super cool
Wall of speakers back in the mini truckin magazine day's, and hydrologic dancing bed!!!
I’m thinking two 10’s in the jump seat area
So stoked for this build! 4x4s are cool but I did the lowrider stuff more! Great episode Dave!
Thanks. Got plenty of stuff to work on.. I probably need to sell off something soon
I know it does not mean much but from a fellow eastern Canadian but it was nice seeing you signing a hat for me at Tucson duct tap drags. I was 4k miles from home and seeing all you guys was a blast! Thanks Dave for the content!
That’s awesome. I really enjoyed that weekend
Lifted trucks, lowered trucks, I love them all! Awesome builds!
Thanks! Glad you dig the variety
Love that your doing minintruck videos!!! Keep them coming!
Can’t stop now
I like the way you solve problems with simple yet effective solutions. Never been a big lowrider person, but fab work is fab work and it's still cool to watch. Brother in law had a hard body in highschool, was a fun truck. Cool to see it done differently.
Yep. Problem solving works universally
Stoked to see this truck come back
Me too. Thanks
Chip away at the projects! I've given up "deadlines" for my projects, just enjoy working on them when I can, less stress that way :) Thanks for the update! I've never played with airbags before, but I kind of want to try that for another project truck sometime.
I agree. Especially if you have a big fleet. But I do like a ridiculous deadline for the final pusn
@@thedirtheadshed I guess a deadline for the final push helps you actually finish something 😁
The amount of thought you put into what your fabbing is amazing. I have to say you're one of the best fabricators, and its funny when you get all excited when you're done & everything works 🤘
It’s new and fun pretty much every time
As always Stella workmanship Dave. Great content as always as well. can not wait to see this Nissan finished.
Thanks! I just want it back on the road already
Glad to see you getting back on it. This is one cool little truck.
Thanks. I can’t wait for it to be a driver again
Love how you pick odd projects and simply take your time and enjoy them.
I dig it too. Maintaining them can be a chore though!
My second car ever was a 1976 Mustang II. Cool car really. I imagine that body parts aren't that common any more though.@@thedirtheadshed
This thing is so cool. I miss my Hardbodies. I had an 86.5 and a 90. Both 4x4s. Lots of good memories playing out in the woods.
I have an '11 Frontier 4x4 now. Maybe one day I'll pick up a 4x2 and build a low rider. They just aren't very practical where I live, but 9" of travel is pretty good. Never had anything with air ride, but I can see the appeal.
A low rider minitruck with an LS would be pretty cool. Something with a big loopy cam. Square bodies have been catching my eye recently, though. Probably will only build one.
It’s hard trying to build one of everything. Not enough hours in the day
Dave,
hadn't seen your lowrider mini truck before. ...love it! i really dig the upper control arm 3-link design in the back. i always appreciate your work and content!
Thanks. Need to drive this pile
Loving the airbag content between the mustang and now this, I am hoping to start my first air ride project this spring on my 83 Fleetwood so I am taking notes. Love the channel!
That will be a cool ride
Can’t wait to see more on this build!!!
I need to finish that one!
Stoked to see a mini truck update! I love watching the progress on this thing, can’t wait to see it all done and slammed on the ground! Thanks Dave
I feel like I need to just slam it together and drive it now
I'm a Jeep guy, but I love the mini trucks
Keep an open mind and it makes life fun
Awesome to see you back on the hardbody. I need to get back on my 97.
Never enough time!
Glad to see ya back on the Nissan. I was really interested in you sectioning the bed. The Mustang II is also looking Great. Hard to believe ya rescued it from a junkyard.
He bought it at an estate sale and was storing it in his junk yard. I’m sure it would have been re sold if I didn’t scoop
It up
mini trucks are sweet. good to see you working on it
Now I just need to keep the momentum
So stoked to see this thing gettin love again! I dig all the 4wd stuff (I have a Jeep myself) but I also used to have a bagged (poorly) S10 back in the day and your Nissan gets me all giddy like when I was a kid. Keep it up man! Standing by for the next episode!
There were so many sketchy bag jobs back then
I've been looking forward to seeing more of this project. I enjoy all of your content, fyi. Thanks for sharing!
No sweat. This one gets back burnered too often
I like how you have several different types of vehicle builds going on in different genre from rock crawlers to mini trucks and 50s custom cars. I do the same thing. Lol i have a chopped 53 chevy, an s10 mini truck plus my 4x4 dodge and several other projects.
A person of true class!
Dave we are loving this "low" street side of you! Way to go Dave!!
I’m glad I have somewhere to show it off!
Excellent fab skills , what a killer truck . I can’t wait to see more content. Cheers 🇨🇦
Thanks. I just wanna Drive It!
Dude!!! You even do!!! Cool lowriders!!!✌️
I try!!
Love it! Beauty work as always. Nice, simple, clean mounts.
Thank you very much!
Dave, I love the show, and all of your projects. Your fab skills and knowledge have pushed me to get out in the shop and start a Jeep build. Keep it up.
That’s awesome! Hope it turns out well
@@thedirtheadshed it’s gonna be a journey, hope someday to get to wheel it at Moab and the PNW.
Thanks for the Great content Dave. The Nissan Is Looking Sick. Cheers from Queensland Australia.
Glad you like it! Maybe someday I’ll fly down and hit up the east coast cruise
I appreciate your honesty with psyching yourself out about projects. I do that and to know an awesome fabricator like you does the same gives me a little more motivation to just get out in the shop and start working on my own project.
Yeah. Getting hung up on a project is a major bummer.
Nissan Hardbodies are such cool trucks.
They are kinda classic looking now
Love a cool 90s mini truck
Same
Awesome Dave ! I'm happy your back on the Nissan. Late 80s into early 90s my High School parking lot was filled with mini trucks, Mustangs and VWs.
Keep these awesome videos coming Bro !
The good days
I’m looking forward to seeing you finish the Nissan
Me too. Even just thrown together and driving will be good
Hell yeah Dave stoked to see this one
Right on! Progress is progress
I'm not a low-rider guy but appreciate the tech and fab. Helps me stay motivated on my projects Totally enjoy yur channel!!
That’s the goal! Thanks
The all thread trick was sweet!
It works well. Doesn’t lie
Hell ya. Can’t wait to see it shoot sparks. Keep it up.
I need to pick a rig and work on it till it’s done!
Hahaha. Yeah blessing and a curse right! Having that much space and that much cool junk. My two car garage in socal keeps me in check. That mini woulda been a hit cruising balboa in the 90’s.
Hell Yeah!! Can’t wait to see with the bed on! #minitruckin
Same here
yes! back on the mini truck!
Yep! For now. Need to finish the shock mounts
All of your content is awesome but please I need more of this
I’m working my butt off trying to get one a week out. This hustle is real
The truck is looking good 👍👍
Thank you
Love the swing arm.
Thanks
Good work Dave it's definitely sweet!
Thanks mark!
Woot. Been waiting for more of the hardbody.
Needs more attention
Really cool project
Thanks!
Just what I needed after a rough week! Thank you Sir.
Take it easy. It’s the weekend
Love this truck man great work as always
Dang it’s cool!! Need to get it back on the road
Nice change of pace! That’s going to be really cool when the bed is on it. The dirt head shed is just the place for guys like me who are just a bit adhd!
I can’t stay focused, but I do like working
Such a RAD build Dave!! Can't wait to see ya get to enjoy that truck again!
Same! It was a fun driver
I like the mini truck content. Watching the way you approach building those mounts is pretty rad. Like a mad scientist 😂.
It’s the most fun part
So excited to see you back on this truck!!!
Me too
I enjoy your fab work.
Thanks ! It’s fun to film it
I was so excited to see this video pop up! That truck is gonna be so sick! Your work looks great.
Thank you

Super cool project Dave! Takes me back to my teenage years buying Mini Truckin and Sport Truck mags seeing all the wild tube frame airbag setups. Also dig your CAD (cardboard aided design) skills 🤘🏼
Those were great times !
Not a lowrider guy, but the fab work on them is pretty sweet!
I can appreciate that
Your channel is not good for my mental or financial health😂
It’s crazy how similar we are.. I have 2 bagged Nissans, a pinto wagon, some 50s cars, and a pile of Offroad rigs.. all of which need my attention.. 😂
I always dig your videos even tho they make me feel lazy and unmotivated.. my daughter has been pretty time consuming so I’m gonna blame it on that! lol
keep it up my guy! You’re killin it!
One bite at a time!

This is the video I’ve been waiting on while I love off road I also love bagged sh!t and we re about to start building my 13 yr olds hardbody
Oh cool! Hope it gets you motivation
By far, fab videos are my jam!
Your Miller sounds perfect on those welds, I have the same rig but I must be a bit off with my settings
They have good and bad days
Cant wait to see it drag!! 🎉
I wanna drive it bad
That upper link is sweet!
Thanks. It was a fun wishbone to make

Time to build the new rockers into rock sliders
So rad!! Makes me want to go do work on my 67 c10

One at a time is totally okay
Another great vid Dave thank u
Thanks! Tell your friends
Sweet vid. Fabrication was cool. But I'm more impressed you had 2 full days to work on that truck..lol. with building Louie and the Mustang, you haven't had much time for much else..lol
Yeah. My house chores are definitely falling behind
Love Air Bag content!!!! Keep it up
Will do! Thanks
I love that truck!!!
It will be really cool as a driver!
Rad!!! I've been waiting for minitruck content! And perfect timing on the snow as it snowed here last night. And I have maintenance to do on the rt! And my garage is filled with woodworking stuff! So I'll watch you homie! Lol
I appreciate it!
Woooo mini truck content
Always hustling!
I enjoy watching a fellow left hander work, weld, use scissors etc to learn new tricks, is that weird?
Scissors are hard
@@thedirtheadshed not as bad as tin snips tho
If you need a good start for tacking or for welding you should nip off the little ball on the end of your wire. It will pop less or not at all
Good advice
