    I love how El Cuco had the cultural awareness, and cheekiness to co-opt a phrase like "will the real ___ please stand up." Even in all his demonic depravity, he still managed to be an absorber of pop culture.

      That saying has been around waaaaay before that stupid eminem song. Also, in the book he never says that.

      I wasn’t referring to the Eminem song. I’m well aware that it predates Eminem, but it’s a pop cultural reference nonetheless. And it’s funny either way, whether this line is true to the original text or not. It’s just a funny liberty taken with the character that implies at least some awareness of the culture around him.

      Makes sense that El Cuco would know about pop culture. Keep in mind, it gets the memories and knowledge of whoever it becomes.

    In a show full of great moments, this is the scene that really stood out to me. How can something look and sound so human and is yet so obviously anything but? What an underrated gem of a show. I only discovered it by happenstance but I'm glad I did.

    Paddy Considine was amazing in this. Claude sounds like a normal, friendly hayseed, but El Cuco sounds like the fucking devil himself. Despite having the same voice and appearance.

    One refreshing factor with The Outsider's approach of a villainous Eldritch Abomination is having granted it humanlike characteristics:
    In contrast to Pennywise, another Eldritch Abomination, who does effort the expected exertion of a human's mannerisms and speech, El Cuco remains capable enough to manage it with ease,
    With arms full of roses, thank you, Paddy, for your marvelous performance,

    • @MrSomeRedditor
      @MrSomeRedditor 3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      More or less, yeah. Same universe too. But pennywise existed before the Big Bang and the creation of the universe. He's the alpha and omega of these creatures so to speak. I wouldn't be surprised if King ends up writing a novel or series that explains or at least alludes to pennhwise somehow seeding the population of transformative demons like El Cuco in The Outsider and the Newscaster in the sequel If It Bleeds that Holly Gibney discovers. They all are cut from the same cloth and have the same habits, manurisms, traits, desires, tastes, and arrogant psychopathy.
