Magdeburg Hemispheres, amazing alternative methods plus DIY

The Magdeburg Hemispheres has been one of the most dramatic demonstrations on atmospheric pressure ever produced. It was first devised in 1645 by Otto Von Guericke to show off his vacuum pump and has been a staple of physics teachers ever since. However, using a vacuum pump is not the only method that can be utilized in reduce pressure in this demonstration, far simpler methods are shown which give just as satisfactory results. We'll look at how to build the same demonstration pieces for under ten dollars, also without the need for a vacuum pump.
