Blacksmiths are people who help us a lot to recycle old metal or broken metal items.
In this video you will see an awesome work of blacksmiths in Cambodia. They use a small broken motor cycle gudgeon pin to make a very beautiful axe. Making axes is not difficult for them at all as they are skillful or professional blacksmiths. But, what maters them the most is that they don’t have enough modern tools or machines to forge a small thing like this axe. However, after trying, they finally made an axe.

This manis a master of his craft, using nothing more than simple tools he has achieved a tool from a material that any modern smith would deem as almost impossible even with their power hammers and high heat forges! My hat is off to you, Mr Cambodian Smith, we should learn from you!

A True master. I have been watching your videos, with ever increasing respect. Tools on request, in pretty much any size. From quality recycled high carbon steels, that will last a lifetime if properly sharpened and respected. From a simple fan driven forge, with tools made to purpose.... Top respect sir.

Just a thought on branding your videos- a small sign, say 12 cm x 30 cm: "Amazing KK Daily". You can prop it up in just about every shot and not disturb the blacksmith shop, take it with you everywhere, cost nothing to make, but protects your videography from theft since your channel is now "burned" in. ☺

Good question. A hatchet is simple a very small axe.

I wonder if there’s any benefit to a straight edge axe compared to the more common slightly curved blade?
ieat caribou - some people like the straight edge better most it the old generation. Rounded edge in theory, will have better penetration because the power is hitting in a smaller spot, but that is just theory, and too much curve doesn't cut well for so little of the blade is making contact.
ieat caribou - So you have three different options. I used rounded and liked that one the best. I used to do tree work and split wood for a living.

Does your friend buy steel from a supplier when he has 40 axes to make? Or is he able to get enough scrap steel locally? Thanks
He buys steel from people whose job is to buy and sell old broken things. What do you call those people? I don’t know the word for it, my English is still poor. He buys it from them for very cheap price. Usually it costs $0.50 or less than that per kilogram and he can make like $20 per kilogram of steel.

They have customers from Vietnam and from across Cambodia.

It is called sandstone, not a brick
If you made a stone/brick from fine river clay, you could probably use it as a honing stone. You could add fine sand for a rougher grit. That's what sandstone is, after all, just add a few million years. 😏
