Right now I’m choreographing my own dance to this song because I connect and share many similarities with this song and Brooke. My dance teacher puts me in the back when I’ve won hundreds of comps (solos,duos,trios,etc) and she continues to put me in the back corner where nobody can see my true talent all because she thinks her kids and like Melissa’s kids, her best friends kids front and center when none of them do comp or are even that good as dancing!
The same happend to me when I was dancing on one studio. I quit because the favoritism was so toxic. On the last recital, I was doing jazz jyrical, there was a group dance with all 6 of us, but there was only one solo, and they gave it to that girl because it was the teachers favorite but she wasnt the best dancer and she couldnt even do a side aerial or a grand jete, she wasnt good at leaps and wasnt flexible. And not a better dancer than all of us. On that day of the recital, she ran off stage because she forgot her dance, so the teacher took away the opportunity to give a solo to anyone else, because the solo wasnt even shown, she forgot. But I left that studio for that and other reasons, it was toxic.
‘Nobody knows who I am’ by that she means The producers made her seem like a missable teenager but she is actually really bubbly and fun. Thanks to the producers nearly everyone knows her as the missable teenager.
She once said that they did make her look grumpy. At pyramid and so on they waited for her to look unhappy. So once she smiled all through it to test it and they literally picked out the 5 second when she didnt smile.

If Abby wouldn't have torn Brooke down like she did, that kid would've made it. So maybe "tough love" made some that much stronger. I mean, look at Chloe. She made it out alive. But Brooke isn't Chloe. Four years of Dance Moms and however many before that of Abby's coaching tore this kid to shreds. You could tell she wanted it, and she had it too. Brooke couldn't handle it, and I don't blame her. When someone constantly tells you you're not good enough, that doesn't make you want to keep doing it. So she quit. She quit dancing and singing and acting and modeling and gave up on everything she absolutely _lived_ for for the first 14 years of her life. Now she's in a sorority and seen possibly drinking underage on Instagram (she's 20. She's in Ohio. The legal age there is 21. Don't come for me people!) Brooke is living proof that Abby ruined kids' passions, wants, desires, and drives. Brooke could've been famous, and I truly believe she wanted to so badly. But there came a point when she was probably like "screw it. I'm just not good enough." And that, my friends, is the product of 12+ years of those words being taught to a child. Words do hurt. And we can see it before our very eyes.
I just want to throw two things in there; If she couldn’t handle that, she wouldn’t be able to handle the big fame.. I’m talking about that kind of fame where you have no privacy at all, and paparazzi everywhere, I don’t think there are many people who can handle that, that’s why the really famous people fuck up that much. The second thing is, why didn’t her mom say something? If I would see everything you just described happen to my daughter, I wouldn’t do it once the first contract is over, so it’s kinda the fault of her mother too in my opinion
Jasmine there is a difference between a dance teacher who is supposed to teach you not hurt you yelling at you and telling you you’re not good enough and you never will be and a person who you don’t even know pointing out every flaw. I agree, that too is emotionally wearing and sends people to a breaking point, but we can’t say if Brooke could’ve taken that because we never saw her with that kind of hate. I agree with you on the second part. Though we have no idea what happened with contracts and what was actually done, Kelly could’ve gotten away. She did eventually, but it was just too late. However, you’re right. Had just one. adult. listened. Brooke could’ve turned out differently. It’s a shame.

Brooke was shown as a grumpy teenager but I know that it was just the show itself that ruined her spirit for dancing. To this day I still feel like Brooke cagoule have been a star if Abby had given her more challenges. I feel like crying.....

I think that there is just nothing "special" about her voice. It's not that she can't carry a tune, there's just no... oomph. We'll see if she gets somewhere over time.

This song is so meaningful if you listen to the words." Doing what I'm told" basically saying she does what she's told but its not good enough. "Lights are on me everybody's watching but nobody knowing as who I am" meaning yes she's on stage the lights are on her but no-one can recognize her like they probably do with maddie."I hurt yea I hurt all over my body I just dance I just dance to get through" saying that even tho she was hurt she kept dancing. "On the stage blinded by the darkness" meaning she's in the shadow of maddie cuz Abby doesn't care. "Waiting for you" basically she's waiting for Abby to try and act like she cares. On the show it may not seem like she wants it but I think she did she was amazing dancer without Abby's attention imagine what kind of dancer she would be if she got half the attention she gave maddie. Imagine what kind of person she would be if she got Abby's attention. She could've been on Broadway, movies, tv shows and more but no she wasn't because Abby tore her apart. That girl is amazing and she could've been more of a star than Maddie if Abby gave her attention also in some parts of the video you can see she looks like she's trying not to cry especially at the end the corner of her eyes look red like she's about to cry but trying not to. Abby tore her to pieces but she is amazing and beautiful its hard to think she's engaged and about to get married.

I think that there is just nothing "special" about her voice. It's not that she can't carry a tune, there's just no... oomph. We'll see if she gets somewhere over time.
