    As I was watching this and the change of camera positions I thought “put the camera on the roof beam and watch from above”..... 20 seconds later. My mental telepathy was rewarded. It’s remarkable from all the way in Scotland. Keep it up but more importantly keep the family safe and healthy. These videos are great but family first. We can wait for whatever you do. Amacf Scotland.

    I thought I caught a wiff of that pine when you started cutting into it but it was sawdust from the jack pine I've been cutting out in the muskeg for firewood the last few days. Red cedar siding looks better each day! I love those "veneer" off cuts, they come in handy for shims. sometimes other random uses. You've got to figure out a more efficient way to handle your boards and slabs - been there done that, got tired.

    You did a nice job with planning your sawmill shed. The arraignment seems like it works well for you. You also seem to have more "spring" to your step now that you work in the shade. That siding looks good!

    Greetings from Australia. Your sawmill shed looks amazing and must be a great place to work out of the sun and wind. I've been binge viewing your videos and you have inspired me to get into sawmilling some of Australia's rugged timbers; eucalyptus, box and ironbark to name a few. Unfortunately, developers here in Queensland have a scorched earth policy when developing residential estates and I want to save some of their felled trees from the wood chippers.

    Have you thought about building a stand to stack your logs on the same height as your saw deck with an easier way of loading them onto the sawing deck? a couple of stops to hold them in place. Save you the energy of rolling them over. line up a table with your shed posts, sex posts under it to load your logs on with a stake at front and back to keep them in place when available. Then have a removable roll on ramp connecting the saw deck to the holding deck and winch them on across.

    How long do you let the boards dry before using or selling them? I've heard it takes 6 months per inch, but I'm not sure if that's the case.

    • @falllineridge
      @falllineridge  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      J.T I’ve heard an year per inch....6 months is probably just fine at least for pine. For inside use I’d go with at least 6 months per inch, then finish the boards (edge/plane) and place them inside the house for a good week or more before use to get the acclimated, might have to go longer for thicker boards. Need 7-10% moisture content for interior use. Framing lumber can be 14%. The time per inch also depends on the climate in your area.

    Good video Wes! That Woodmizer is a fine piece of kit! I was wondering - do you get agricultural fuel discounts in the US? Here in UK we have 'white' diesel for road use, and diesel with a red dye in it for off-road/agricultural use at around 50% cheaper. My reason for asking was that if you do have these discounts over there, I'm surprised you don't use the tractor with a trailer for shifting lumber & things around at home instead of your truck. Regards to all - stay safe, stay well.

    • @falllineridge
      @falllineridge  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We have red diesel. We call it off road diesel. No road tax on it. The discount is not as good as 50% though. The mill is great! Well worth the investment. I use the truck because it's just convenient. Thanks for stopping by again!

    I find it a complete waste of time and fuel cost too make three cuts and still not have a face worth making a length of siding. Why not put the small end to the saw face at least you'll have a good idea how much too take off in one cut.
