This is why it was a genius move to hide the kiss at the end of season 3. As beautiful as that confession was, Shirogane was still acting and trying way too hard not to show his weaknesses. This is why we finally see them kiss when they share a genuine moment together, no balloons or spectacle whatsoever. This might be one of the few romantic comedies where the traditional grand romantic payoff is deconstructed and seen as not particularly necessary in order to become a happy couple.
The thing is that the movie ended at chapter 151 and parts of 160. The manga ends at 281. We really are only halfway through this series. There's season 4 and it's going to be very heavily Ishigami/Iino centric and we get best girl Hayasaka arc.
Yeah we are probably getting 2-3 more seasons and one more movie. I really hope they adapt the Princess Kaguya/Shinomiya family arc in a movie, it would make it so damn sick
@@Zimzky91you'd have to understand the content of those chapters first. For example just because an entire fight scene is 10 chaps or so, doesn't mean it's going to take nearly as much episodes. Conversations spanning 2 or 3 pages can be shortened to basically a few seconds depending on the situation and kaguya sama is mostly a dialogue heavy manga at that. It's up to then if they want to milk it with 2 more seasons and a movie finale or a season and a movie. There's parts of kaguya manga after a certain bit that you can basically skim over and that story would still be amazing. (Imo, it was Akasaka getting rapidly lazy drawing manga, if you didn't know he basically quit drawing his own manga and stuck to writing instead)
It takes a ton of balls to make a fairytale level ending that everyone loved, and then remind people that the kiss hasn't actually solved any of their insecurities or their communication issues. And then immediately go in depth into them and give us an even better ending.
Really hope we get more. This is a good ending, if it is an ending, but I am really not done with these characters yet and the anime is so good. If we don't get another couple seasons, i will probably have to go and read the manga.

As romantic as it was the gesture that Shirogane had with Kaguya during the S3 finale, I get why the events of this movie were necessary. Because they were always keeping appeareances from each other since S1 trying to look as appealing as they could towards the other. Even that romantic gesture from the finale and their actions during it were very clearly staged to be romantic, but none of them were really acting as themselves. So it was nice to see them finally be true to themselves while confessing. I also think that it's a really nice resolution to the "love is war" aspect because Shirogane was the first one that fell in love but Kaguya was the first one to confess. So they both won and lost againts the other in some way. I really liked your videos reacting to this series. This show is great and I'm really looking forward to see S4 and to see your reactions to it as well.

I love how bad and awkward the confession scene actually is. Kaguya does her confession and then dumb Miyuji is like, "fine". It doesn't matter. It never mattered. They're in love, they're going to be fine even if someone screws up once in a while.
Minor spoiler: Since they rearranged the sequence of events from the manga to the movie, next season will start off mostly with mostly flashbacks for what happened during Christmas for the other characters.
I don't know why the anime cut this from the source manga but when Miyuki's mother left she took Kei with her (leaving Miyuki with his father) because Kei was smarter and more naturally gifted than Miyuki. Kei eventually returns to her Father and Brother through her own choice, but still thats why it messed w him so much
Kaguya and Miyuki still had to overcome their barriers to finally meet in the mirdle. For Kaguya it was her self hatred for being raised in a cold cruel environment. That's how you survive as Shinomiya in the real and business world. She thought she didn't deserve any love from anyone since her ice persona was there to protect herself and others from being friends to others so that they don't get wrapped up in her world. Once Miyuki started being nice and it was genuine that's when we get the melting of Kaguya's heart. For Miyuki it was always being a perfectionist and never making a mistake around others. Building up the perfect persona in order to get Kaguya's attention and win the student council president. Once he was top in the 1st year class in exams that got her attention because a position of strength and power always gets someone's attention. Either way, they had to meet in the middle. For Miyuki he had to learn that it is okay to fail and that Kaguya will not look at him with disgust like his mind always thinks. For Kaguya, it's okay to let go and be a normal girl who laughs, cries, and loves. That's what season 4 will be about those how they interact with each other that they are in a relationship now.
It's a good thing that we got this whole thing in a movie coz when this was in the manga everyone was pissed at Kaguya for acting the way she was because they had to wait weeks for one chapter after next. But it was necessary. Without this unmasking and complete acceptance their relationship would have never been what they truly wanted. I love how Aka Akasaka just takes every stereotypical plot point and just subverts it and deconstructs it completely. Starting the story with saying that love is war and ending with both of them giving up their pride and proving that it's not, showing a fairytale perfect kiss/confession/conclusion and then stating that this is not what a relationship needs. It doesn't need balloons and campfire and perfection. Those things are nice to have but the first and the last thing that makes a relationship what it is (romantic or otherwise) is honest communication. As good as the finale of S3 was it will never reach the emotional heights that this movie did for me.
To clear up a couple of confusions about the final episode, since some scenes aren't fully explained in the show's normal fashion: - Shirogane was so happy to receive the handcuffs from Moeha because it was an absurd gift that took away the attention on his very plain gift. - While Tsubame is talking with Papa Shirogane, and we see a flash of her and Ishigami on the bed, it's always been my interpretation that that isn't a scene that actually happened. I'm fairly sure it's her imagining a future for herself with Ishigami, and questioning if she would be happy with him. What a great series, it's been so fun watching you guys react to it!
The scene on the bed is a flashback to the Christmas party. The manga actually shows what happened but the movie skipped a full 7 chapters to the date instead.

One of many things I love about the basically 2-part ending ("Dual Confessions" and "First Kiss That Never Ends") is that they're BOTH shown to be important even if "First Kiss" was the complete confession. Maybe it's made more clear in the manga, but Kaguya even says that the balloon scene on the clock tower was beautiful and romantic, but it just doesn't need to be like that all the time. And they both recognize that they needed to take a big step for their first time stepping towards each other. In "Dual Confessions", they showed each other a part of themselves, but it just wasn't everything. "Dual Confessions" is like escalation from the S1 finale with the fireworks. For both Miyuki and Kaguya, it showed how much they had come to understand about each other. Him putting a fake message out to distract Chika while also clearly knowing that Kaguya would interpret the real message is brilliant. "First Kiss" has both of them dealing with finally unpacking those insecurities and their "weak side" but then realizing the other person knew the whole time. So in one sense "Dual Confessions" WAS the "complete" ending, because each of them knew about the other's "weak side" and still made a move towards each other. It's such a beautiful arc, and I can't wait to see how A-1 animates the ending of Game 2 (the final arc).

The author really said "okay, I gave you what you wanted, now here's what needs to be done" and I respect him for that cause this was a risky way to go. That said, I'm glad you had patience with Kaguya even though you really wanna knock some sense into her head. I remember I was so mad at the theater, felt like everything was ruined but it was worth it. We're finally here 🥹 I was waiting so much for this moment but I'll miss your Kaguya reactions so much! I think u probably know this but that "president mask" that hayasaka wears was already shown many times in background Like in pyschological test episode, it was shown that kaguya practiced with her servents wearing masks of student council memeber for any questions from the book...
If you guys want more Romance anime to watch I’d suggest 1. Toradora! It has a similar vibe to this 2. Your Lie in April. One of personal favorites, the story is fantastic and has a lot of great music in it
Well that's been a great way to spend my evening. I love how much you enjoyed the ice queen Kaguya. It's apparently pretty divisive, and one of the reasons they made it a movie (so it's set up and resolved in one release). I loved it, but a lot of people felt like it reverted Kaguya's character development. But the inner monologue between Kaguyas just had me bawling. People are complicated, and there's a lot of moving parts in everyone's head, so you gotta learn to be happy for yourself. And you need to get yourself someone who still loves you at your worst.
You guys hating on kaguyas cold personality just proved her entire point. People hate her cold side, but she wants miyuki to love everything about her.
The 'fine' translation for Miyuki really doesn't convey the words well I think. XD 'wakatta' translates to roughly 'I understand now'. I think they could have done a better job at translating the line to something a bit more appropriate, taking Miyuki's tone of voice and the situation they were in into consideration...
The "Fine" response was an informal "yes". English doesn't really have a suitable translation, but it's basically a casual "yeah" or "got it", without as much of the dismissive connotations
They're doing something pretty special here... 99% of the writing for these love stories comes with the message: just show your true self and everything will be alright. But that is simply not true in this case and while Shirogane does know all of Kaguya's sides she doesn't really know his true self, not even by the end of this movie. If he hadn't pushed himself like that he wouldn't have gotten her.
That's actually true too, it was Shirogane pushing himself so hard that made her take notice, it was his kindness that made her fall for him. But he needed to beat her and be perfect to even get seen by her in the first place. If he didn't beat her she wouldn't have joined the Student Council at all.
Shirogane's true self *is* the side he shows Kaguya. He was abandoned by his crappy mother who stopped believing in him after he didn't show enough academic promise and only took Kei to live with her. Despite this, Shirogane was able to study hard enough to enter the prestigious Shujin Academy. Of course once he's there he realizes that just being successful at school doesn't solve all life's problems. He feels like an imposter, being a poor kid in a rich person's school. The former student council president sees the real Shirogane, though, and realizes that he may just be the one to help Kaguya as well (he apparently knew of her terrible "Ice Queen" personality). The "real" Shirogane is hardworking and compassionate. To him, though, he views that as an act and his real self as being the boy his mother left behind: an incompetent, poor, loser. So the message is still to show your true self, but also make sure that true self is your best self. The self that you choose to be and not the one other's pick for you. Ishigami and Hayasaka have the exact same character arc.
That "fine" by Miyuki is just a bad translation. It could've been "Yes" or "I will" but for some reason the translator decided "fine" was fine, which was horrendous.
I dunno if "Fine" was the best translation. Isn't it more like "I got it" or "Understood"? I suppose it's not that different actually, but it's in response to her request.
I'm commenting before even watching the intro just so I can say if the tragedy of Carlos the Goldfish isn't brought up this episode, I'd be severely disappointed. As I've said it in the comments, I was already looking forward to this reaction ever since "terrible gifts" was mentioned back in S2E2. #Justice4Carlos EDIT: I'm not left disappointed. Not at all.
This movie is a masterpiece and fun fact for the both of you, there are a little change in the ending there which is different in the manga. In the movie the ending scene is where only kaguya confessed to miyuki and miyuki answered fine. But in the manga, both miyuki and kaguya confessed to each other(same scene) and they were both so happy about it. But thats the difference when it comes to the ending of the movie compared to the manga^^ and be prepared for the season 4 because things will be starting when season 4 comes out, love the reaction of the both of you^^

I'm also not prepared in the traditional sense because I still haven't watched parts 3 and 4 yet. carlie was looking at things from a surface level. the president needed to man up and be assertive with all the signals kaguya was giving him. It's funny because he was pissing me off for most of the movie. the author did redeem him and I understood where he was coming from. I didn't find any faults with kaguya's behavior in this movie. shirogane needed to come out of his shell and kaguya was determined to make him do that.

The author really said "okay, I gave you what you wanted, now here's what needs to be done" and I respect him for that cause this was a risky way to go.
That said, I'm glad you had patience with Kaguya even though you really wanna knock some sense into her head. I remember I was so mad at the theater, felt like everything was ruined but it was worth it.

Well that's been a great way to spend my evening. I love how much you enjoyed the ice queen Kaguya. It's apparently pretty divisive, and one of the reasons they made it a movie (so it's set up and resolved in one release). I loved it, but a lot of people felt like it reverted Kaguya's character development. But the inner monologue between Kaguyas just had me bawling. People are complicated, and there's a lot of moving parts in everyone's head, so you gotta learn to be happy for yourself. And you need to get yourself someone who still loves you at your worst.
You guys hating on kaguyas cold personality just proved her entire point. People hate her cold side, but she wants miyuki to love everything about her.
The 'fine' translation for Miyuki really doesn't convey the words well I think. XD
'wakatta' translates to roughly 'I understand now'. I think they could have done a better job at translating the line to something a bit more appropriate, taking Miyuki's tone of voice and the situation they were in into consideration...
The "Fine" response was an informal "yes". English doesn't really have a suitable translation, but it's basically a casual "yeah" or "got it", without as much of the dismissive connotations
This marks the completion of about 60% of the manga
They're doing something pretty special here... 99% of the writing for these love stories comes with the message: just show your true self and everything will be alright. But that is simply not true in this case and while Shirogane does know all of Kaguya's sides she doesn't really know his true self, not even by the end of this movie. If he hadn't pushed himself like that he wouldn't have gotten her.
That's actually true too, it was Shirogane pushing himself so hard that made her take notice, it was his kindness that made her fall for him. But he needed to beat her and be perfect to even get seen by her in the first place. If he didn't beat her she wouldn't have joined the Student Council at all.
Shirogane's true self *is* the side he shows Kaguya. He was abandoned by his crappy mother who stopped believing in him after he didn't show enough academic promise and only took Kei to live with her. Despite this, Shirogane was able to study hard enough to enter the prestigious Shujin Academy. Of course once he's there he realizes that just being successful at school doesn't solve all life's problems. He feels like an imposter, being a poor kid in a rich person's school. The former student council president sees the real Shirogane, though, and realizes that he may just be the one to help Kaguya as well (he apparently knew of her terrible "Ice Queen" personality). The "real" Shirogane is hardworking and compassionate. To him, though, he views that as an act and his real self as being the boy his mother left behind: an incompetent, poor, loser.
So the message is still to show your true self, but also make sure that true self is your best self. The self that you choose to be and not the one other's pick for you. Ishigami and Hayasaka have the exact same character arc.

That "fine" by Miyuki is just a bad translation. It could've been "Yes" or "I will" but for some reason the translator decided "fine" was fine, which was horrendous.
I dunno if "Fine" was the best translation. Isn't it more like "I got it" or "Understood"? I suppose it's not that different actually, but it's in response to her request.
Aka Akasaka could just end the story right here but no it gets even better after this

I'm commenting before even watching the intro just so I can say if the tragedy of Carlos the Goldfish isn't brought up this episode, I'd be severely disappointed. As I've said it in the comments, I was already looking forward to this reaction ever since "terrible gifts" was mentioned back in S2E2. #Justice4Carlos

This movie is a masterpiece and fun fact for the both of you, there are a little change in the ending there which is different in the manga. In the movie the ending scene is where only kaguya confessed to miyuki and miyuki answered fine. But in the manga, both miyuki and kaguya confessed to each other(same scene) and they were both so happy about it. But thats the difference when it comes to the ending of the movie compared to the manga^^ and be prepared for the season 4 because things will be starting when season 4 comes out, love the reaction of the both of you^^

What? Already?! All at once! I thought you were going to do the openings first! I'm not mentally prepared! I'm also not prepared in the traditional sense because I still haven't watched parts 3 and 4 yet. I mean, I read the manga as it came out; I know how the story goes, but the anime has such flourish that it's a different experience. ESPECIALLY in the Dub.
carlie was looking at things from a surface level. the president needed to man up and be assertive with all the signals kaguya was giving him. It's funny because he was pissing me off for most of the movie. the author did redeem him and I understood where he was coming from. I didn't find any faults with kaguya's behavior in this movie. shirogane needed to come out of his shell and kaguya was determined to make him do that.
It took me a year extra to finally get to see this as I watch on dub so I'm here now to watch your reaction.

@@AboodXD I mean over a year since season 3 ended and there hasn’t been an inkling about season 4, most rom-coms regardless of success and of what’s left in the manga will only adapt 3 seasons worth of content, not to mention the vast majority of manga readers agree that where the show left off is also a decent stopping point, which may be what the production companies are thinking. Dont get me wrong I’d give my left arm for another three seasons but I’m not sure it’s happening
