Folk Art is actually the finer art in all its forms I would offer. Art schools from the start have taken people with creative skills and thought them all the techniques and process known and accredited by academics. It literally disregards archaic ground stone tools as actual sculpture (see my avatar example). This was a time period when artist was more an everyday skill, than the reverence of today. Folk Artist connect us back to humans in nature, resolving to understand our materials and how to express themselves.
Academics produce industrial designers and commercial artists with a lot of infrastructure and economic support. Folk art is where humanity has always been. Look at any indigenous culture, look at Africa.
