  • In an incredible scientific publication, Dr. Samuel Stupp and his colleagues at Northwestern University demonstrated recovery from traumatic spinal cord injury in mice using Bioactive scaffolds with enhanced supramolecular motion.

    My son was a victim of an armed robbery and shot 3 times. He is presently paralyzed T10. He has sensation and a long road. I told him that I didn't know how but I know for a fact he will walk again in his lifetime. This research gives solid hope that progress is being made. So many are suffering and this medical advancement would be a blessing for the patients and their entire circle of caregivers. Thank you.

    Thank you Dr. Beaber. Through participating in the elezanumab trial I have been thinking of Spinal Cord Lesions and the lack of ways to slow them down during an active relapse. I thought that a separate opportunity to see if the drug could work for MS, if administered during a relapse to see if some repair is possible for spinal cord lesions.
    Elezanumab is not going forward with MS, but was excited to see this video to see more research toward spinal cord injury. It may be a long while until it gets to MS, but all research starts out with mice. It’s a start.
    My spinal cord lesions are all old, but I have kids and there’s more people loosing capabilities due to spinal cord lesions with active MS. So I’m concerned about the future of MS treatment. It’s exciting yo see this research. Thank you.

    I was paralyzed from T6-T7 at 21 from a snowmobile accident and I’m now 25. I’ve always seen advancements in areas such exoskeletons and such, but those don’t interest me nearly as much as being able to FEEL again. If I could never walk again but feel, I’d choose that. Obviously I’d love be fully cured but this is exactly the type of treatment/cure I’ve been hoping for. I only hope they’re able to find a way to help those who have been paralyzed for prolonged periods rather then needing an immediate treatment. Even when I had my accident it took almost 48 gruelling hours before I was brought in for surgery.

    This isn't the first time that I've seen a Company inject paralyzed mice then amazingly they can walk again. All this does is crush the HOPE of my fellow MSERS. BIG PHARMA will stop the FDA to approve it anyway. Still trying to wrap my head around the fact that the US and Canada doesn't allow the procedure HSCT. Great stuff. Still SC nerve regeneration in people with MS seems to be a big challenge, only Terry Wahls can pull that one of. Is it stupid idea to cut off some scarred nerve edges in people with MS before injecting the scaffolds. Or is neurosurgery far from doing something like that. Many thanks for the vid!

    • @DrBrandonBeaber
      @DrBrandonBeaber  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It's hard to say this research is directly applicable to MS, but in theory, MS should be more treatable than traumatic injury in the sense that axons are often preserved. Remyelination should be more straight forward than any process involving axon sprouting or cell proliferation.

    So do they think that this will work after 3yrs? I had lumbar surgery and woke with paralysis in both legs. One leg came back within a few days, other leg still has partial paralysis. I also have MS. There was no indication of any relapse. Rather my MS is now progressive. With mind over matter by tying that leg/foot to pedal of recumbent bike, I started to get get muscles working in that leg. But I am petrified that one little sickness that keeps me in bed longer than a night, I will be back to square one. As I continuously take 1 step back every single night when sleeping by not using it
