      They do smell. Don't trust anyone that says they don't. They def do. Add some springtails in to help clean out the dead and the poop. Just a heads up that there's many known cases of allergies happening the more you're exposed to the smell and the smell of roach poop. I didn't have an issue before but ended up almost getting an asthma attack from it. Definitely won't keep them in my house due to the smell.

    Great looking colony you have there. I have ordered 1000 & they will be here day after tomorrow. Will breed them for 2 generations and then start to feed them off to my reptiles & donate a few hundred k to rescue centers. I breed Crickets, Mealworms, Dubia's, Red Wigglers & Superworms as well, but these Turkistan roaches have been on my list for a while. Now just to get my reptile numbers up to around 100+ from the 46 I have currently. Started all this beginning August & must admit the Mealworms are the most work but the Supers the biggest fatality rate.

      I had many escape! I'm a licensed NYC Exterminator, that being said. I can truly tell you the best way of taking care of the problem is by simply laying out Banana Glue boards. They love the banana sent, you'll be surprised on how many got loose on you... I sure was lol.
      Two adults excape while cleaning the enclosure, I placed the 2 glue boards out and the next day I caught well over a hundred nymphs plus a few large ones.

      @@VLineExotics good! Thanks for answering my question because I only have experience with dubia cockroaches. I have thousands of those but I wanted to breed something else for my tarantulas, scorpions and smaller frog species. Dubia cockroaches are great except they have a tendency to bury themselves making it difficult for some of my animals to find them. I will still always breed dubia cockroaches for my larger frogs and toads though. I only have about 20 red runners of both sexes right now because I just started yesterday but I hear they breed very fast. I use reptile heat emitters to keep my roaches in the 80s and they breed like crazy. I use emitters because cockroaches hate light.

    Hi! How do you clean the enclosure and dispose the eggshells and eggs that didn't hatch? I have a B. Lateralis colony before and I'm planning to have a colony again.

    • @VLineExotics
      @VLineExotics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      All my eggs usually hatch out, they'll dry up and shrink before hatching. It doesn't mean they're bad.
      So let's start up by having monthly hatching tubs. Every week you'll clean out your adult tubs by removing all your reds and cardboard out, at that point you'll remove all eggs and then place them in your small hatching tubs. You'll have 4 weeks of eggs per hatch tub. Keep on doing this and every month you'll have new batches of nymphs in their own age group. That's how I keep my babies separated from the adults... PS: just remember this important rule for success‼️ Always have food and water crystals in all containers, for the hatch tubs keep water crystals and dry food (crushed cat or dog kibble) to prevent mold. In your adult tubs have water crystals and any food of your liking (dry food, fruits/ veggies). If you DO NOT provide lots of food for the adults, they will eat the eggs‼️ They will eat the eggs from the ground and those that are still attached to the females... Hope this helps‼️😎👍🏼

      Andy Sarmiento I feed them dry cat food, dry oatmeal, and bread. in terms of separating them, I use my hands or just separate the egg crates that they're on already. Now if you mean in terms of size, I harvest all the eggs every few weeks or month and just have them hatch out in their own enclosure / containers. That's how I have different sizes in different containers.

      WTF TV I don't use substrate for reasons such as that. if I was to use a substrate I would use dry oatmeal and use a small shallow bowl for the Water Crystals so the crystals do not touch the substrate causing mold or fly issues. I would recommend removing the substrate you have now and replacing it with something better like oatmeal or just leave it empty which makes it easier to clean.
