Damn there are a lot of people bashing Sweden on here! So what if it's part of our culture to be reserved? You don't like it? Either move or don't visit. o.0 Seriously... as it is Sweden has one of the few cultures on earth where it's acceptable to hug people you've just met, so I don't know what everyone on here is whining about. -.-

Nice Idea! I an imagine that it fun observing the response from the general population there it the city. From what I remember from more than 20 years ago, hugs were free in Gothenburg at that time too. While I was visiting my cousin over there, I met some good and friendly people. They are still free here in the New York City area too.

@Stevelinguist Don't see how it is superficial when it very obviously puts a smile on the faces of people, complete strangers who for a moment share happiness together. Nothing superficial about that, it's those emotions and simple things that remind us of the beauty of humankind.
As a Norwegian living in Oslo, I also feel this way. It seems as if Scandinavians really has a much more colder atmosphere than many other countries. It's as if we're so afraid of getting close to other people :( People needs to open up a lot more and actually see colours everyday ! Life is not bleak, life is happiness! Downsides are here to make us feel alive and make us stronger ! Hug and love !
On the contrary Swedes can be very impulsive and warm, if someone takes the initiative. We had some camera problems so not very much was caught in this video but everyone involved gave out hundreds of hugs in the few hours we did it. Some people even asked if they could join us and gave out some free hugs of their own before moving on. It takes someone to break out of the fold. But once its done you find the warmth and happiness right there just below the surface.

I don´t think Swedes are so cold, I´ve Swedish friends and lots of times they are more Spanish than me. But anyway I think all people need more hugs. Gotland the best!!!!!!!!!!
I actually think its more fun when you meet guys on a bachelor party and buy your friend a hug or kiss without him knowing :P Or maybe even buy him the occasional "lift the kilt" for just 10SEK.

I actually said something like that to a Norwegian person and they were very offended by it but I think a lot of northern european countries are like this. It's different in other parts of the world, people are brought up to be more friendly.

It actually worked really well (I'm the last guy in the video) We got a ton of hugs, but we had camera problems so most of it wasn't caught on tape.
