  • From T-shirts, socks and toys to knives and lanterns, a store in upstate New York takes pride in only selling goods that are made in America. Olga Loginova from VOA's Russian service talked to the store owner about his business, which emerged after the 2008 financial crisis.

I LOVE the fact you honor American veterans. Its about time we salute and honor those brave men and women of our armed forces. I love the fact your store is 100% American. I am willing to pay extra to have my fellow Americans employed. American made means high quality. I will definitely shop online at your store. Congratulations to you. I honor you and your establishment.

It's sad because walmart used to be 100% USA products with some rare exceptions but those products were always sourced from the Americas such as Canada and Mexico. When Sam Walton died in the late 90s, Walmarts board of directors and the heirs went in a new direction and now almost everything is Chinese made at Walmart. It's a pity. Sam Walton would be turning over in his grave.
Oh, and to add some insult to injury about how they absolutely spit on his wishes and grave, in the 90s Walmart board initially looked into building a Walmart supercenter in Greenville MI, the birthplace of their biggest competitor Meijer. Sam Walton fought hard, and won, to keep Walmart out of Greenville as a sign of respect toward the Meijer family. When Sam died in the 90s, Walmart board immediately revived efforts to open in Greenville and did so in 2004 literally two blocks away from the Greenville Meijer store.

I'm from North Carolina. In my lifetime, we have lost the tobacco and textile industries. We really tried in the 70s to keep American made products going, but our government did not protect us and did not want the large amount of blue collar workers we had, so we became a largely service oriented country. Steel, cars, textiles, tobacco, printing....just a few of the industries that built this country mostly gone today.

Be careful buying a lot of innocent looking household supplies like toothpaste, bleach, shampoo, etc. While the product inside is usually made in the country it's from, the bottles are almost entirely made in china or sourced from Chinese plastics because it's so cheap. The only ones you can really trust is the ones that specifically have a "made in USA" indicator on the bottle because those products are actually checked by sources vigorously and approved for that indicator.

A bygone era good memories. Made in America is impossible to find now,
it's mostly Assembled In America or with import parts. Saw an
incredibly looking Camper at the RV show - MADE IN USA proudly labeled -
windows from Norway, tires/brakes from China, Cabinets from Hungry,
lights/fixtures from China, Aluminum/Steel from "not sure where, I think Taiwan". Aye, other manufactures around the world aren't exactly standing still for the last 30 years. Take a look at our workforce fixing the potholes and that's the efficiency of our workers nowdays. Our economy is mainly Amazon, Facebook, Tweeter. Amazon is one of the biggest/richest American Icon. What is it made of? You guess it, Amazon is Made in China! China says I'll stop export to Amazon, do you think Amazon has anything to sell?
Econ 101 (my thesis at grad school), it's Japan, then Taiwan, then Korea, then/now China, and many years from now (because China is just too big in terms of capable skilled workers and scale), it'll be distributed to Thailand, Malaysia, India, etc. One day we'll run out of slave countries to build stuff for us so we can maintain our standard of living, but that's many years from now since there are still countries we can exploit. What we didn't expect is that China is becoming Japan/Taiwan x 10K times and now that's a threat because wealth cannot be shared. How can we win? Stay with the cutting edge technology that Japan/Taiwan/Korean maintains as they offload manufactures to other countries. China is already doing it offloading the cheapest stuff to less developed countries.

I think you and people like you are the population of people that need brain transplants...you'd be so lucky to get an asian brain...they are way smarter! 🤣 Of course Carys Cats you would never know this because you have never tried to compete with them to get into college. This is horrific:
I remember a time when food was bountiful...neighbors shared what they grew in their backyards...you could go on the block and pick fruit from trees!
Now...I can't even find a real apple in my community retail store!
To eat an organic (real apple) it has to come from Mexico... approved by the USDA?
Wave your flag again...see if I don't cut your throat!
My community is filled with dead foods!
All foods either fake, laced with harmful insecticides/chemicals...made in a lab...like factory farms!
What happens when animals uncured diseases from damaging their immune system?

All companies should be required to tell us where everything is made so we can buy according to our beliefs and views. I don’t want to buy anything from China or any other communist country. Why are we allowing them to sale here? Why do we have a trade deficit with communists? Country of origin should be in bold letters on the tag or the first screen on Amazon.
