Thank you for your videos. I have two questions. 1. Are cart lifts also considered hoistways, and do they need to comply with the same requirements as elevator hoistways? 2. Can the elevator lobby be shared with a waiting room. In other words, can a waiting space be in the elevator lobby, or do they have to be separate - one elevator lobby and one waiting room.

Thank you so much for this video! I disagree, however with the interpretation of 3006.2 laying out 4 different scenarios for hoistway opening protection. 3006.2 literally reads:
Elevator hoistway door openings shall be protected in accordance with Section 3006.3 where an elevator hoistway connects more than three stories, is required to be enclosed within a shaft enclosure in accordance with Section 712.1.1 and any of the following conditions apply:
The building is not protected throughout with an automatic sprinkler system in accordance with Section 903.3.1.1 or 903.3.1.2.
The building contains a Group I-1, Condition 2 occupancy.
The building contains a Group I-2 occupancy.
The building contains a Group I-3 occupancy.
The building is a high rise and the elevator hoistway is more than 75 feet (22 860 mm) in height. The height of the hoistway shall be measured from the lowest floor to the highest floor of the floors served by the hoistway.
The key word is "AND" any of the following conditions apply, not "OR". This means that to require hoistway opening protection a hoistway would need to connect more than 3 stories, the type of construction require a shaft enclosure AND 1) No sprinkler, 2) I occupancy, 3) High rise shaft, etc.
To me a 4 story elevator in a "R" occupancy (apartment building) protected sprinklers would NOT require a lobby or smoke curtain.
Again the keyword being "AND". Bolstering my point would be to point out that it's redundant to make one of the scenarios "connecting more than 3 stories" and another scenario "being a high rise". Please let me know if I am off base here. My intention is certainly not as a harsh critic, more a student of code like you! NC/FL building inspector here.
Thank you again for the great video!

Thank you so much for your videos, they are very helpful. I was wondering if the video regarding Fire Department Access Elevators is still available, you mention Short 008 (8.48), but I couldn't find it. Thanks.

Now that yo mention it, I have not uploaded those shorts. I will look into it and upload them in the next few days. I must've forgotten (they were uploaded into my Patreon account a few months ago!).

I have a question, if I have a 4story building apartment, can avoid elevators per exception 1 of "1009.2.1 Elevators Required"

Chapter 10 is for EGRESS requirements. Per this section an elevator must meet certain requirements for EGRESS if the building has 4 or more stories. However, even if a building only had 2 stories, an elevator would most likely be required for ACCESSIBILITY purposes.

Thanks for the demonstration and the drawings!
But just to confirm, when you mention "No Lobby," you mean either (no lobby) or (elevator lobby "that is not enclosed")?
I just get a bit confused when it comes to the difference between Elevator Lobby and No Lobby ... I do not know the difference.

The entire video is about “elevator lobbies” if there is a specific point of the video that you need confirmation on, let me know the time stamp of the video your referencing 😊
