Read this for the first time last year and I loved the way Eugenides mirrored the decaying of the house and yard with the breaking down of the family. Such an amazing, haunting story - but I still want to know why they did it!
Trip had dibs on Lux... I did like it, better than The Marriage Plot, but it is difficult to tell the sisters apart (by design, I assume). I read it because I liked Air's "Playground Love" on the soundtrack of the film adaptation. I enjoyed your comparison to Emma Cline's "The Girls" which I also liked but thought followed the Manson murders too closely. I found the voyeuristic aspect of the teenage boys interesting... it stayed with me for sure.
I have had this on my shelf for quite a while now. I read Middlesex and I liked it, though I found it quite long. Seems that this is quite a different read, so I will pick it up soon.
I feel the same way about Middlesex, I was waiting for Callie's story the whole time and didn't let myself enjoy all the family history narrative. This is much more condensed, and it's delightful.
Hello! I am just wondering if anyone knows where I can purchase this book that has the cover of the girls legs. I live in Australia and can't find it anywhere in person or online that guarantees I'll get this version of the book when I purchase it! If anyone has any ideas please let me know, Thanks! :)
