That song (originally by Kult) is from the 80s, when Poland was still under Russian occupation (that was thrown into just after the WW2, being abandoned by Roosevelt and Churchill in Yalta). Literal meaning refers to the wall that used to divide Berlin in half. A very symbolic place, the essence of the Iron Curtain. It’s about being forced to live under the Soviet shoe when the free world just don’t care. Also, it’s very special as this is one of the songs that, when a wrong person overheard you singing or playing it, could get in deep trouble - like disappearing or being fired/expelled etc.

I think this song was meant to be about Berlin - the left side is the east Berlin (the communist part), the right side is the west Berlin (the capitalist/free one). But it fits Poland just as well.

This song is not only about iron courtain. This song is about the separation of families, many worries of each side of divided families by disappearing and fight spirit in the people of the poles nation. When the nation was divided by WW II and Poland was divided by Russian and Germany those borders were implemented to the nation mind. Imagine living on the Russian border side being poor, devastated mentally and physically and comparing it to the other side of this border Germany where you're in so much better condition physically and mentally even if you're in Your country after war. Song says everything about these differences of sides and how much it costs to get healthy in that's not an easy situation.
I've just been waiting for new hymns of actual serpent situations with Ukraine. I hope so to have the same hits on both sides.

Kasia was so emotional because that song is symbol of all sh.. that happened to Poles since end of II WW, communism, soviet occupation , poverty, fight for freedom. And that song was iconic protest-song since 1988 ( year before fall of communism in Poland) when was recorded and perforemd by KULT. And Kasia , like me, is from that generation who had to go trough painfull period of transition. Inspiration for the lyrics was Berlin Wall dividing communist and free part od Berlin.

On this festival the audience could always be right in front of the stage. This year (2017), an absurd provision was introduced that the audience and the stage should be separated by a large distance, gates were built, although both artists and organizers opposed it, but this was the decision of the "heads". During this song we pushed through the fence and overcame absurd barriers, it was touching.

As you can tell the lyrics are riddled with metaphores so it is kind of hard to get the whole meaning, especially beacuse it involves some of our geopolitical situation and our feelings during the communist occupation, but the execution of this song and its heavyness can be felt even despite language barrier. Arahja means emotional breakdown of man. After second WW Europe was divided by a wall. Many families live apart. At that time, it wasn't allowed to took about it, hence this song. Some saw their families only after 28 years😢 when the wall was demolished. Although the war ended 1945, freedom came on Poland only after 1989.

Orginal is Kult - "Arachia" from 80's. Lirics started: "My home is divided by wall. Divided both side. On left side bathroom, on right side kitchen." But you must understand, that's was time when Poland have fight for freedom from russia and Comunism.

It is worth to mention that Nosowska also sings this song for its author - Kazik from the band Kult. Since the very beginning of the festival (25 years), Kult one of the most popular Polish rock bands, was never included in the lineup due to some misunderstandings with its organizer, Jurek Owsiak. In the background there is a current political situation in Poland, where authoritarian conservatives took over the government, polarizing the community, and among other things making efforts to cancel the festival due to its strong links to sharing the democratic thought. Thus Nosowska also sings "Arahja" for Kazik and tells him to abandon trivialities and not contribute to strengthening these divisions.
