SKODA missed the bus again for Indian market , this pricing can make or break a product in a competitive segment. Skoda initially hit the sweet spot with the base variant pricing at ₹7.89 lakh, which generated excitement. However, the significant jump to ₹9.7 lakh for the next variant seems unjustifiable, especially when the additional features are not substantial. By keeping the automatic variant under ₹10 lakh, they could’ve attracted a wider audience, particularly first-time buyers and those looking for convenience in urban traffic. This segment is highly price-sensitive, and crossing the ₹10 lakh mark pushes buyers toward more feature-rich or larger SUVs. pricing strategy risks cannibalizing sales of the Kushaq and Taigun’s lower trims, which could hurt overall portfolio performance. Skoda needed a more aggressive approach to establish a stronger foothold in the compact/mid-SUV space and take on rivals like Hyundai and Maruti. Unfortunately, this pricing misstep might limit its potential.
I just visited the Skoda showroom, and interestingly, they don't have the Kylaq model on display. You can only pre-book the car without actually seeing it. Even the staff admitted that many visitors, like me, left disappointed. Pre-booking a car without seeing it? Is this a joke?
