@@josephelgersma2073 I'd say Rosie and Husk have better people skills than him but he carefully keeps track of what they know and don't know so that he can know which piece of secret knowledge to pull out for them for a deal. @@nuclearcatbaby1131 Alastor has the skill. He just doesn't need too to use it. He will if he must, but why do that when you can affect events indirectly? Alastor's one mistake I notice is acting entitled to respect with Husk. Alastor has weak points in his armor then. Will be interesting to see how that pans out later.
I realized that when he shakes Charlie's hand, we see stitch like strucktures on Alastors mouth. Like his smile is sewn on his face, making it impossible for him to stop smiling.
Alastor has a very strong composure so he smiles basically always. But there are people that have gotten under his skin enough for Alastor to lose his smile. Example, Lucifer almost got Alastor to lose his smile. Lucifer got under Alastor's skin enough to swear at him.
Alastor perfectly demonstrates that you don't have to lie and cheat all the time to be a villain. He's clearly beyond dodgy and yet he never tells an outright lie or refuses to answer a direct question, and it both funnier and more sinister for it.
"Could eat you lot for breakfast!" said Velvette, right in front of Rosie and Alastor . People failing to respect him seems to be an intentional decision on the writers' part
@naandrei5013 velvette said that to zestial, and not because she can, but because she's stupid (she could be decapitated any second that meeting. she wasn't smart by triggering carmilla or zestial to find out more, she was making a bet on whether she could come out alive or not, and didn't even come out with any substantial information. gambling with your own life, even in hell, makes you immediately beyond stupid, and yes, carmilla would look bad by killing velvette right there, but it could be easily excused with a "she was disrespecting the overlords, the meeting and all of hell")
I mean. She did. Lute ripped her eye out. With her spear. But saying that would've spilt her secret. She absolutely *did* know and demonstrably did not tell her.

Indeed. The way he looked when he said "don't worry she still owns her soul" makes me feel that he can ask for her soul later on in form of a favor... or it could be something worse

@@jeei_ It's "one favor, at a time of my choosing" not "one favor at a time, of my choosing" it just means he could wait hundreds of years before deciding on something. That tells us it's not something that would help him right now, but later. He's setting up something big.

Ironically he doesn’t like *his* personal space being violated or being touched himself. He only likes when he does it. Like usual it’s only when *he’s* in control of the circumstances
I think the reason he didn’t ask for her soul is because he knew she wouldn’t agree to such a deal. And even if she did, he would have to deal with the wrath of Lucifer in the aftermath.
@@pufferfancyfish Lucifer is a fallen angel but Lilith was human/mother of demons. Charlie was born in hell so she’s hellborn. Typically hellborn don’t have souls only sinners (humans) so we still don’t know if Charlie has one or not. So she either has half a soul or no soul.

Don’t know where my reply went so I’m typing it again the fact the Charlie thinks alastor is going to ask for her soul and the vaggie thinks alastor took her soul makes it seem like at least those three think it’s a genuine possibility when Charlie asks if he is going to ask for her soul he never says he can’t because she doesn’t have one he just says he doesn’t WANT it

2:34 This moment is very interesting; it seems to me that these stitches prevent Alastor from showing other emotions with his mouth. All Alastor can do is open and close his mouth, and also smile.
That's a very interesting observation, actually... since we know Alastor is bound to some other deal, it's entirely possible that his permanent smile is tied to the deal he made, and not specifically as a willing choice that he uses as a tool to manipulate others.
alastor lost his smile at 0:17 for a frame , hat's sus because he says himself that he's always smiling and you always see him smiling in the whole series
mabye? but i think its more just mouth movments- cause he says "Dooming" and kinda hard to make a Do sound without closing your lips, and the M sound kinda forces mouth to be a -_- face but would still work if he did NOT smile cause charlie did kinda doom him so he could have had a slip
Remember when we took Alastor's word about helping Charlie's project only for his personal entertainment? With the benefit of hindsight, it is quite clear Alastor saw a truly golden opportunity, striking a deal with the Princess of Hell herself.
After watching the show a second run, id disagree he has personal interest in it. I think he's got someone pulling his chain(literally) to keep him guarding it
"Just because you see a smile don't think you know what is going on beneath a smile is a valuable tool my dear, it inspires your friends, keeps your enemy's guessing and insures that no matter what comes your way your the one in control" - Alastor
This is why I think Alastor is the best character on the show from the way he kicks his feet on the bed to being all nice-nice to Charlie he's very cunning and that's why he's going to be a big antagonist in later seasons
No, I don't think so. He has a few moments when he is actually helping, in a way that doesn't benefit him, or outright goes against his attempts to make charlie dependent on him (telling mimzie to leave, letting Rosie help Charlie with her relationship problems). And he's genuinely disturbed with how much he's changed for the better (almost dying because of it didn't help). He'll probably betray Charlie at some point (willingly or otherwise), then come around.
@@ginghinaandrei5013 Well I agree and in the pilot he said "Dear, if I wanted to hurt anyone here, I would have done so already" also he did defend the hotel a few occasions twice against Sir Pentious and the loan sharks which Mimzy owed money and a car she borrowed" he did say about the constraints of his deal have a back and trying to finding to unclip his wings from Lilith and possibly swap Charlie for him in order for him to overtake Lucifer?
@@TheFMHatter1986 He said "pulling all the strings" in the finale. Not 'take the crown'. He said he wants to "guide Charlie's potential" and "she's passed the test" in Hello Rosie (Rosie wants in on it, too, by the way) . I don't think he wants to trade Charlie's soul. I think he wants Charlie to have as much power as possible, and be his figurehead.
Alastor is by far the best written characters in the show. One of the scariest things about him isn’t just the fact he’s really freakin powerful but also that he’s a master manipulator. The moment he sense any weaknesses in his victims, he’s lures them into his trap. His most pontin weapon is his words alone.
What’s really funny is the fact that despite that Vaggie believes that Sir Pentious lied apparently he was not wrong. It’s hard to tell if his minions literally tell the truth instead of saying insane stuff.🤣🤣🤣 So through it all it wasn’t his fault despite that Frank knew about it. Alestor probably knows about that so that’s why he used Frank to spy.
I have a theory about the deal that Alastor made (probably with Lilith) is that in exchange for giving him power, the being with whom he made the deal put a series of conditions on him, one serious one that prevented him from taking new souls, which is why he probably rejected Rosie's offer and He can no longer make direct deals with the souls but indirectly asking for favors, so when Husk insulted him, Alastor only threatened him since he must take care of the remaining souls and 2 will only be able to use his total power as a result of the deal when Alastor manages to end the deal. or with the objective requested by the being with whom you made the deal
I don’t see enough people talking about it. Best way to get screenshots is to go straight to the episode tho bc googling “Charlie Morningstar feet” is NOT a good idea (I learned this the hard way 🥲)
Glad I'm not the only one who was reminded of sukuna, both deals even have similar wording: "One favor at a time of my choosing where you harm no one" vs "one minute at a time of my choosing where I harm no one" and both work great as an ominous future event.
1:23 A very interesting detail about the fact that a smile makes others think that you have everything under control. When Alastor is on someone's chain and it's clear that he doesn't have everything under control.
I genuinely think Alastor's whole arc is going to be about the duality between control and surrender, as well as imprisonment vs freedom. I think the future of his story will show him having more of an internal war with himself about who he truly wants to be, and what freedom really looks like. In the finale he says "I'm hungry for freedom like never before". I think that line meant more than just his deal. He's constantly showing that he feels like he needs to be in control all the time. It's probably why he made the deal (likely to get his powers) in the first place. I think his whole arc is going to be about how he needs to surrender that need for control, and how true freedom is in letting go. Even his smile comes down to the symbolism of freedom, as he straight up states that it's a way of "ensuring that no matter what comes your way, you're the one in control." That smile is his way of clinging to his idea of freedom, because he believes that the only way to be free is to constantly be in total control. So while it might seem like his whole "villainous energy" is pure malice and evil, I think like every other mortal sinner demon it comes from a place of fear and hurt. I wonder if there will be a time in the future where he finally opens up and is TRULY honest with either himself or someone else about his pain and fear (instead of frantically looking for a way out and planning to have one like in the finale reprise), and symbolically, loses his smile, even if just for a moment. And the fact that he does for ONE frame in the show while saying everyone in hell is doomed almost confirms this theory for me. He's not a sociopath who doesn't care about anything, he's a mortal human who masks any emotions that might give away (even to himself) how powerless he feels.
@@dragonsworld4888 Thanks man. I kinda predict he's gonna somehow end up in a situation where he's completely powerless and he may "ask someone (Charlie) for help" by cashing in his favor. And when they first made that deal it looks so sinister, but I think it's an intentional mislead. Because he might just end up cashing in that favor as his first *true cry for help* from another person. Instead of only ever relying on himself bc he's toootally always in control. He might even end up using the sacred p word. (Please)
Thank you, I think the twist is he’s…complicated. He has a sense of right and wrong of sorts, and I think he does genuinely care about the gang, but also genuinely wants to have control to feel safe and caring about people interferes with this. I kinda see his responses, even his hyper control, as trauma responses and I think the end scene is him freaking out that he started caring for this group and going “wtf was I thinking, I’m not that guy, I need to get back on my sh*t before I end up dead or hurt”. I think he ended up caring for everyone somewhat in a creepy, messed up way and needs to figure out how to be ok with that, lol.
2:27 alastor really is one of the best character's in the show, the way he is always listening, watching those around him for information, and is very careful of when he reveals it, and how.
Nope, he explains it himself. The smile isn't being forced by something external, he is forcing himself to smile because it allows him to be in control. The stitches are most likely because this is the first time we see him *genuinely* smiling, and he is grinning so hard he's gonna tear his own face apart.
3:05 Vaggie: "I didn't even know it was possible" bruh, you literally got your eye popped off by an angelic weapon. Am I the only one seeing this plothole? Don't get me wrong, I really loved the series, but this is bugging me since the second rewatch.
I’m not gonna lie but Vaggie not knowing it was possible should know it’s possible. Not because her and her own kind of sisters go around purging hell. But because everybody’s got a weakness, and they know it. Honestly, I don’t blame Charlie for being pissed off with her.🙄🙄🙄

This is a really good take
@@dragonsworld4888 Thanks man. (Please)
i LOVE this take, you said it perfectly. I really hope the show goes in this direction.

No I think it has something to do with his mother.
Nope, he explains it himself.
