This seems like a kitchen trash area. It was almost exclusively food bottles whereas many you excavate have tons of toiletries. I will say that the Feeder family loved condiments of all kinds. 😀

Awesome video as usual. Great finds. My favorite bottle that I have ever found is a fancy decanter style bottle with a glass shield embossed. Dr. Thompsons liquid tongue relaxer.

Now that I have watched all of your videos I am ready to comment. My grandmother was born in 1890, yes 1890, my father in 1912 and I'm a 50's baby boomer. I grew up around and still live surrounded by old stuff. I love watching your videos. I love the memories, the education, the calmness. It is so nice that you don't add the sensational nor the conflict. I look forward to watching more.
My paternal grandfather was born in 1888 and my paternal grandmother in 1890. Seriously, both in 1888 and 1890. My father was born in 1927. But I am a Generation X er. I also grew up around antiques and explored my maternal great grandparents' house next to my maternal grandparents' house (where my other great grandparents' lived there too). The oldest antique I own is a Victorian mourning jewelry lapel pin of my paternal great grandfather from Italy.
My grandfather was born in 1872. He made the Oklahoma land rush in 1899. He was 65 when his last child was born.

I watched this dig while I ate lunch in front of my computer here in Billings MT. you've given me an idea-- not sure how good of an idea it is but here goes-- I'm seriously thinking of introducing myself to a some people on the other end of town, the older part. Maaybee, 1 or 2 will let me dig in their backyards. 😛🤭🙄 I worked at a church day care for a little over 20 years. About 1/2 way through my stay, the church had some work done. when the floor was dug up the workmen found a big chunk of a cut cow bone and some small fragments of pottery-- nothin special. the bone freaked the workers and us employees out.. every one thought it was human. during the 1918 flu epidemic the church was used as a hospital. thanks for taking us along.

My uncle worked for the city water dept near here and they dug up one of those Palmer's bottles many years ago and my aunt put it in a window at her house. Their last name was Palmer so extra cool find

You're making me think about an old two-hole outhouse i know of out side of Searchlight, NV. on what was once a large mining operation. They had several buildings there for the workers who mined there and ran the mill. It's been said that miners often stashed the high-grade specimens that they found in the mine in them. Usually in a bag tied to a string, which often slid out of the crack that the knot of the string was wedged into and fell with a plop🙂There is a huge can dump on the property that i've found old coins and bar tokens in, but nary a bottle. So now you got me thinking.

If your ever in Iowa you can dig in my yard, first recorded date of my house 1903 the ground was purchased in 1855 and my home owned the south half of my town.

The H J Heinz bot #49 naufactured at the hometown Sharpsburg, PA Heinz glass house.
The 40s series of bots were hand blown, cork top, wax sealed, then metal/tin foil protective cap wrapped.
Dated in the 1893-1905 period. 1890s-1903 handblown, 1903 - - - machine made Owens machine made bots.
#49-used for several varieties of tomato and pickle chutney.

I spoke with an archaeoligist friend who was in on a dig at Fort Anne. He was assigned to one of the latrines. He found at least one interesting artifact, IIRC it was some sort of bronze talcum powder box from the early 18th century. Everything organic is well and truly broken down after so long.

I saw the bottle explode on that short video. Glad you're alright man, that could have been really bad. I had this happen to me once when I dug a solid glass bottle. It exploded about 24 hours later in my bathroom. Was like a bomb!!

I need an explanation……. why are those bottles called “pickle” bottles? The opening doesn’t look large enough to get pickles in or out.
I just found your channel. Those bottles are nice finds. My son here in Virginia has a friend that digs privies. He recently found a broken flask, maybe a firecraker style, and the broken bottle sold for $10,000. Great channel. I have a small metal detecting channel. lots of great finds. check it out when you can.

I have been binge watching your videos since I found you a week ago. I’m remembering the trips I took to the outhouse all those years ago !!! My dad would not have liked to see anyone throw trash in the hole. Keep up the awesome videos. Also tells us what happens to all the treasures. ❤
The doll would not have been spooky with her beautiful glass eyes. I don’t know why the eyes so seldom survive. German doll heads were considered some of the best made.
I think the reason the eyes usually aren’t with the doll heads is because they are made of separate pieces of porcelain and then placed behind the cut outs of the face. The eyes probably fell out as the other organic parts of the doll decomposed. Makes me wonder if they weren’t maybe in the dirt around where the doll head was found.
That palmers bottle was really nice with the script writing. Was it black or dark blue? Amazing some have retained some of their paper labels.

Define 'pickle'. Those jars look to be too slim to hold cucumber pickles as we know them.---That big drug store bottle fascinates me...I can almost imagine what it held!---I always feel so sad for the little girls whose precious dolls get broken.

How do you find a rough area of where to dig and then how do you find the specific area? How do you clean up the bottles?
What do you do with all these finds? Do you sell them somewhere?
How do you research the old bottles you find? I am an excavator and have found thousands of bottles through the 32 years I’ve operated. I’ve somehow lost a lot of my collection but never could find a solid way of putting a value on them or even when they came about.

I'm a doll fanatic so love that find. Porcelain parts weren't just imported, soldiers brought dolls home from WWI for their little girls. Also love the Palmer's perfume bottle. My uncle found one many years ago and my aunt displayed it in a window. Their last name was Palmer so extra cool find for them.
Just remember if you come down to Central Utah you always have a place to stay

Tom, I would wager that those "pickle bottles" are NOT the sharing size. Maybe the pickles were sliced very slim or cut as chips. Just not big enough to store many.
Never thought I'd spend 30 mins watching someone dig up someone elses trash and enjoy it, but here i am. I've thought of doing this on my property, but it's only from the early 50s so probably no worthwhile finds to be found.
What happened to the secret room you mentioned in the thumbnail title?
It struck me that someone had to decide what shape and color went with which product. I imagine the bottler began with a few shapes and then subsequent bottlers added or subtracted based on popularity and usefulness, and major manufacturers standardized their own signature bottles for their products. The wrong bottle could ruin the experience for the consumer struggling to get the substance out and use it. Bottles from abroad seemed markedly different from US styles. It's interesting to see how a bottler would add inscription and design to a standard shape for an apparent limited run. I wonder if bottlers were regional because of the difficulty of transporting bottles in the territories and new states in areas without train access, while limiting breakage. I learned in England that the canal boats were a huge advance over stagecoaches for the china companies trying to get their goods to market intact.
I guess I missed the "massive cache of valuable antiques" somehow. Pile of discarded trash, but no valuable antiques.

Where do you guys find the maps, I live ina house from the early 1850's and I am sure there are some interesting things in my area.
I have a question how do you get the bottles so clean i have a bunch of old bottles and I've tried to clean them the best I can but they don't come out as clean as yours whats your secret?
I wonder do you ever worry about digging up some ancient diseases?, like the half life of some viruses is a long time..
