Fun Isabella! My least favorite ballet step is gargouillade by a million miles. Fortunately, as a retired male dancer I never had to perform this step. I do not like the look of it even when done well. If it was removed from every ballet it is in I do not believe it would be missed.

We have so much in common even though I was trained in Moscow. It’s hard to pick least favorite because I worked really hard to know that the ones I didn’t like are the ones I have to work on until they become my favorite. Renversé is definitely there especially when you can abandon it all and let it go (character classes were some of my favorites too!), I love turning, but I’m a lefty who worked really hard to become completely even if not better turning to the right (I do cherish the rare left turning moments like Diana et Acteon, Bayédéré arabesque turns with veil and Giselle act I, and trust me I’m judging - if I had to learn every turn to the right, you can manage a few to the left 😉), but most importantly anything to do with flexibility is my favorite because my body is hyper flexible. Nothing beats grand jetés downstage on a raked stage!🇧🇷🇵🇹🩰

When I think of iconic ballet, I always think of Italian fouettes. Also, a nice simple expressive ronde de jambe makes my heart glad. 💗🩰

Gargouillades (or rather that single gargouillade) also look good in Tchai pas, but I’m waiting to see a third variation where it fits well 😂 I love the description of “drunken pas de chat”. Messy gargouillades also remind me of egg beaters for some reason?
    Please do a part 2! ❤

I love fouettes pirouettes ❤so fun! And also pas de bourré couru hehehe. I don't like brissés like derriere for example but because i feel so clumsy 😂

I agree with emboite. When done well, they look beautiful and light, but they are so tricky. I've never heard anyone say before that they feel heavy but it's so true- and if you don't get the legs perfectly positioned then it looks ridiculous.

Especially if you fling your legs up too high (so that your bottom is on a lower level), it looks like instead of defying gravity you're fighting it... and losing the fight 😅

I love pas de poisson! The fluid movement through the upper body is so expressive and even sensual, and you flick your legs playfully like a little fish splashing its tail. Oh, and the transition from the 3d arabesque to the 4th also looks stunning. When done properly, it gives off this luxurious feeling and also showcases the dancer's beautiful back and arms.
P.S. Gargouillade indeed looks better on smaller dancers (if they can perform it briskly and cleanly). The Mikhailovsky used to have its own version of Walpurgius Night choreographed by Kovtun, the she-devil in it did gargouillades and it looked very fitting and in character.

Renversé is my favourite too! The fermata (sorry only know the music term) of that arabesque position, or the "ooooooze" as my teacher called it, is just so divine 😍
Least favourite are steps with larger beats like gargouillade - As you mentioned they are much more difficult to make look light and dainty on those of us with long legs and big feet. I always thought I looked like I was trying to fling dog shit of my foot hahaha

I agree with entrechat six but I did learn to love gargouillade after being coached intensely on them. My least favorites are brisé volés just because I had to work so hard at them. I do love the emboîtés and you actually mentioned the odalisque variation I performed and Precious Stones. I love the three girls but when I moved up to the solo Diamond fairy I was happy but knew that my coach was beating clean, beautiful effortless petit allegro into me.

Thank you Isabella, I didn’t know about the Italian Fourte’s. I knew it was a beautiful ( and very difficult) step but , obviously, hadn’t realised what it was called. Thank you so much, 🎉 I really enjoy your videos. 🙏🙏👵🇦🇺

My favorite ballet steps are definitely pique turns and also quite simple but I really like grand battmants. My least favorite step is grand jeté, I just find it so difficult to get the second leg of the floor and hitting a full split in time before I land again🩰🩰
