I've been looking to get a new barrel grip Jig Saw. When both Milwaukee and Ridgid announced new ones coming out I was excited and knew one of them would become new jig saw. They both look to be of similar design. I'm disappointed that they have an on/off switch instead of a trigger. Thanks for the video. Not sure which one I'll get yet, but I'm in entrenched in both systems, so we'll see when the Ridgid one gets out in the wild and someone does a review. Great informative video!
You are welcome… the no trigger seems weird to me, but only because it’s not what I’m used to. Performance wise, this one is pretty good. The dust collection is better on bigger workpieces than I showed. If the plate is not fully on a piece you are losing a lot of suction… so it gets better as you get into your cut.
It looks like Milwaukee did a really nice job on this one. I was getting really close to pulling the trigger on an m18 jigsaw, but for my typical use, I think this one will be the ticket.

I like the blower feature, never seen that on a jigsaw before, but is definitely a good idea. The trigger control is old school, we used to have tools with a locking on/off switch, but they moved away from them out of safety to trigger controls that stop when someone lets go of the tool. The only thing I have found with my M18 Milwaukee Jigsaw is that the plastic footplate is loose fitting and drops off a lot, but that one on your M12 there seemed to be good.
I definitely like that I won’t have to be my own “blower feature” 😂 I think I can get used to the switch, but like you said… triggers have become the norm, so now it’s weird that the tool is just running without me pulling one. I’m interested to see if this bolt for the plate stays tight over time due to using a wrench instead of a lever. We will see.
I have a Bosch barrel grip saw with the switch. If the saw is running fast and you need to slow down, simply reduce how much you are pushing the saw. Does the same as the trigger.
Reminds me alot of the Bosch 12v Bareel grip. Nice features, atleast it has the Speed setting in a place you can reach with your thumb without having to stop and pull out (unlike the Bosch)
I swear 90% of people who dislike barrel grip jigsaws have never used them much. I started out with a D grip one and thought it was the better design until it broke and I was given a barrel grip Festool jigsaw. Within a month or 2 of use I soon realised that the barrel grip is so much more versatile, I would never go back.
I’ve never seen a barrel grip with a variable speed trigger. The way you hold and control it doesn’t really allow for the trigger. The big advantage to the switch is being able to cut your material from the bottom side and follow you line or curve that way. Great review as always. I had intended to buy this when it was released but ended up grabbing the Bosch 12v for $37 when Lowe’s clearanced it out. I already have the M18 and the original M12. The Bosch is about as powerful as the original M12, but I have the M18 if I need more power.
It’s about time Milwaukee came out with a Fuel model! I agree I think I would prefer a trigger over a switch. I was considering the M18 model but the grip is a little bit big for me. The old M12 grip felt better so if the new and old have the same grip feel then I’m opting for the new M12 Fuel model. Great review
I hope they come out with a fuel version with a trigger. I like all the extra features of the fuel, but I much prefer having a trigger. Just in case I have to stop cutting suddenly and have more control. Honestly just wish the old one at least had the vacuum port and i'd be good with that.
There are certain things I wouldn’t use this for because of the trigger. I prefer the variable speed trigger myself. This is a good saw, just not used to it.
I just got one , really nice so far ! I get a coping foot the the old one , tho it prolly won’t get used much ! Ergonomics are great with a 3 AH batt ! I think I’ll rehome my 18 Volt !
Hmmm! I like my m12 tools. When a new comes, I usually go and buy it without to many thoughts. I was really waiting for the brushless jigsaw. I’m already on my second brushed motor jigsaw. But I’m not sure about the switch. I agree, trigger switch is a lot better, especially when doing some difficult or precise cuts. I also have the daddy of all jigsaws, the mafell and the only issue I have with it is the on/off switch. Trigger switch are a lot better, easier to use and safer
I just got one and the most interesting thing to me was that it actually doesn't come with a blade. Not a big deal but usually they come with one. I watched this video to see if I missed it anywhere, because it took me awhile to find the hex key and blade storage. I have a dewalt 20v barrel grip jigsaw (first barrel grip) and I still don't feel like I'm used to the switch control, but I like so far how the M12 has the switch more in reach of my thumb. And with the speed control on the head I see the possibility of being able to dial it in with a second hand if I'm doing a large curved cut-out on a sheet. The Dewalt one has the speed control on the bottom up by the battery
I thought the same thing on the blade. I thought maybe it would be in the storage space on the shoe, but was surprised they didn't give you one. The switch is going to take some getting used to for sure. Thanks for watching 👍👍

I do have a nice corded bosch, but really want somethign cordless. This one looks like it may be just the thing. That price is steep though, I'll wait for a sale. In regards to the switch and speed dial, every barrel grip jigsaw I've used has been like that. You do adjust to it. Flipping the switch becomes second nature.

Nice review! I bought one also and love it. There’s one thing though, the last 3 latest vids did the same when changing the blade. Once you pull the lever to release the blade you don’t need to pull it and hold the lever to insert the new blade. Just push it in and it clicks in. I agree with the base plate. That is the normal feature on barrel grips. Which is why I don’t like them and prefer a D handle. I like the Ergonomics of the barrel grip, but I prefer having a variable speed trigger. Funny thing I did the exact same thing with my old M 12 jigsaw it’s a dedicated coping, saw with a college coping foot on it.
You're supposed to turn off the blower function when using the vacuum . Otherwise you're blowing when you're trying to suck . They work against each other . 😊

Make a habit of keeping your thumb on the switch while it is on. Would be interesting to see someone make 3D printed power switches for it with more grip.

You literally must have an older version of the M12 jigsaw the non-fuel version that is. Because the one that I have actually has a dust collection set up the same as all the other jigsaws. It literally has a space that goes into the shoe that looks just like the regular M18 and now the other M12 fuel model. The attachment for the dust collection is just a wee bit shorter but other than that it has the exact same setup same shield and same splinter guard. Maybe they updated the model since you got one but they do include it now in the kit.
That is all I have is the older Non-Fuel and this newer version. I’ve never had the M18. My older M12 didn’t come with anything that I know of. It works better for sure when your entire shoe is on the workpiece instead of coming off the edge like I showed 👍
The blower is a feature we have all been wanting on a tool that in most cases doesn't have much missing. For people who use it every day, I feel that'd be handy. There's usually wind outside, but for indoor use definitely a plus even ignoring the cutting improvments and potential for battery life that Fuel tools are supposed to perform better in. Personally tho, I'm not a fan of the triggerless design. The original version is very simple and handy, and feels like you're using a hot knife to cut. I understand that for production work it's potentially more efficient and easier on your hand, but really Jigsaws are precision tools. It's something that I really dislike about the m12 rotary tool (having an off/on that's not in a handy place) and it actually makes working with it quite frustrating & time consuming, not to mention the danger aspect or potential to ruin product. Add that the new one is about 100 dollars more (at least going by Canadian prices), and I wouldn't say it's a clear winner. I have no plans to upgrade.
The older version is slower for sure, but not too slow that it wasn’t useful. The plate moving on me was my main issue. I was originally just going to loctite it since I don’t use the angle feature much, but after I found the coping foot I decided to just leave it that way and wait for a new jigsaw:

I'm leaning m12 for the convenient size but maybe I'd want the more power of the m18 for 3/4" ply?

If I didn’t leave my other set up as a coping saw I’m not sure I would have bought a second one. Some 5/8 flooring is the thickest I’ve cut with it so far, it went right through it. Most of my M12 Fuel tools perform really well, the main reason I use M18 is for long run times on bigger jobs. Saws and things can run through the M12 batteries pretty fast.
That’s what I had it hooked up to. I have the CT26. It does decent once your saw is completely on the workpiece. When you first start into the cut you lose a lot of suction because the open spaces with no material underneath. You can see that on mine.. it took a little bit into the cut before it started pulling it in. I should have shown it on a bigger piece.

I love it but they blew it with the lack of a variable speed trigger. Everything else is great but let us be in control- not tied to dials. Should have had an option to turn that off.
It is definitely a better performing Jig Saw… Need to find out if the bolt loosens over time for the bevel (it seems pretty snug for now)… and if I can get over the no trigger.
what recommendations do you have to get the tape measure pocket on the veto mp1x/mp2x pouches a little more loose to fit something like a knipex forged wire strippers should i just keep jamming them in there?
I’m not sure, I would think it would because the screw is in a similar place… but I haven’t tried it. I also got rid of all the extra parts and spacers that came with mine coping foot to work with different saws since I was just leaving my old model set up that way.
Im not sure, I haven’t attempted it. My guess it that it will. I was going to just leave mine as a jig saw and use my old one as the coping. If I have time some day, I will take it apart and see. I think it will because the bolt is in a very similar place as the old one.
Yes it was… I surprisingly thought about that… 😂. I did take the splinter guard off too, I’m not sure if it would help or hurt. I feel like the dust collection would work better on a bigger work piece. Coming off the edge of the board, a lot of suction is lost until your entire shoe plate is on the work piece… if that makes sense.
The smaller ones in these type of tools don’t last long. The 5’s and 6’s are pretty good. Any tool that you are going to use for really long periods of time… you are probably better going with M18
Oh, yes they do last! I have all 1.5, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, and 6.0 amp. They are all brilliant. My oldest of them are 12 years old and they still hold good charge. Some tips: don’t charge when they’re hot and never let them in the cold

The Fuel is much more powerful for sure… and has a lot of nice features.

If you have trouble with the keyless tool getting loose, you just need to adjust it’s tension, I had the same issue, easily sorted

Got one for Christmas. Returned it because it doesn’t have a trigger. Didn’t feel right. Hopefully a better one will come out next time.

I like dust collection more for the smaller stuff that fills the air around you and gets in your hair, lungs, and eyes.

it’s a pretty nice saw. Definitely more power than the old one and I’m getting used to the trigger. I think I would still prefer a trigger, but I’m getting used to it.
I love it but they blew it with the lack of a variable speed trigger. Everything else is great but let us be in control- not tied to dials. Should have had an option to turn that off.
Yeah, I’m just thinking if you drop the tool while it’s running you may be in trouble 😂
It’s a typical setup. Generally, barrel grips have switches and D-handles have triggers.
Time will tell!
It is definitely a better performing Jig Saw…
Need to find out if the bolt loosens over time for the bevel (it seems pretty snug for now)… and if I can get over the no trigger.

In my opinion they screwed up by not providing the variable speed trigger. That is a deal breaker for me.

what recommendations do you have to get the tape measure pocket on the veto mp1x/mp2x pouches a little more loose to fit something like a knipex forged wire strippers should i just keep jamming them in there?
Yeah that pocket may not loosen up that much. I typically have been able to fit thinner pliers in there, but even then it’s a little snug.
That's identical to the Bosch Professional 12v apart from the blower...
I used to run Bosch 12v tools… many of their tools look similar. And the batteries have to be made in the same place 😂
If the the speed adjuster is on top, does the 0-4 adjustment change the stroke length?
The blade has an orbital motion option… makes it more/less aggressive.
Does the coping foot work on the m12 fuel?
I’m not sure, I would think it would because the screw is in a similar place… but I haven’t tried it.
I also got rid of all the extra parts and spacers that came with mine coping foot to work with different saws since I was just leaving my old model set up that way.

Im not sure, I haven’t attempted it. My guess it that it will. I was going to just leave mine as a jig saw and use my old one as the coping.
If I have time some day, I will take it apart and see. I think it will because the bolt is in a very similar place as the old one.
Was your dust blower off when the vacuum was hooked up?
Yes it was… I surprisingly thought about that… 😂. I did take the splinter guard off too, I’m not sure if it would help or hurt.
I feel like the dust collection would work better on a bigger work piece. Coming off the edge of the board, a lot of suction is lost until your entire shoe plate is on the work piece… if that makes sense.

M18 all the way, the M12 batteries just don’t last long enough for me
The smaller ones in these type of tools don’t last long. The 5’s and 6’s are pretty good.
Any tool that you are going to use for really long periods of time… you are probably better going with M18
Oh, yes they do last! I have all 1.5, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, and 6.0 amp. They are all brilliant. My oldest of them are 12 years old and they still hold good charge. Some tips: don’t charge when they’re hot and never let them in the cold
