I also want to clarify that this was someone’s family dog that had puppies who needed to be rehomed. Mom had a litter and they are now getting her fixed. 🫶🏻
@@Donna754 seems my response is being deleted. stricter spay and neuter laws need to be enforced to prevent this from happening. for a family dog to become pregnant in the first place is a sign of negligence on the owner’s behalf. if their dog was adopted/rescued to begin with she would most likely would have been spayed as it is required prior to adoption. being that the puppies are now in the world, advertising them on a neon green poster taped to a pole is also not a great sign of ethicality. if they were rehomed, then no fee should have been made as that would be a sale. my further frustration is this message being shared on a large platform. people are clearly impressionable and it is a shame this is the message being relayed versus adopting/rescuing.

I work in a pet (and grooming) store and I didnt see ANYONE mention this: doodles need CONSTANT GROOMING. they may be cute but outside of training you need to make sure you keep up with grooming! Buying a metal comb and combing it all over often (almost everyday) helps it not be matted! Also the right food for the dog is also important! Fromm and Nutrisource are really good dog food kibble brands!
Yup groomer here as well and they are very high maintenance. Especially the nails, clip them every 3-4 weeks. Overgrown nails can bend over and break the tendons.
100% this! I have a Spoodle, got him when I was young and didn't do any research on breeds. I wouldn't change getting my boy for the world, but I wish I knew about the grooming aspect beforehand as it is expensive (but very needed). I'm very fortunate that I can afford a great groomer for my dog when he needs it, but unfortunately some people see it as a luxury expense, not a necessity for this breed.
New puppy…I wouldn’t let her run that huge yard until she’s had her parvo shot. Also don’t take her to the park either until that’s done. Parvo kills a lot of pups because people don’t know not to take them out to parks or yards where other dogs have been. That parvo vaccine is important!
Parvo is no joke! When I adopted my Australian cattle mix she had parvo unbeknownst to me. She was 10 weeks old and started getting sick immediately after bringing her home from the shelter. I spent over $500 in vet care and a couple sleepless nights playing nurse to her. I really thought she was going to die. I've never seen such a sick animal. She made it. She didn't come out unscathed though. She had stomach issues for months and required prescription food, probiotics, and medicine. She's the most expensive mutt I've ever owned. 😂
Don't take her to the dog park in general. They're cesspools of disease, and dog fights are stupidly common even if you're in full control of your own dog.
the biggest piece of advice i could ever give to a new dog parent is to stay away from rawhide anything!! it is incredibly dangerous and there are so many more great alternatives that your new fur baby will love even more! i can’t wait to see her, i’m so excited for y’all!!!🥹🥹🥹
Rope toys and plush toys too, depending on their level of chewing. Also keep an eye on how they are with their bedding as far as chewing goes. It doesn't all come out on the end.
Huge tip would be to get pet insurance as soon as you get her! Poodles and poodle mixes are prone to a variety of health conditions, many of which can be expensive to manage. People often don’t think it’s important to have until something happens and they wish they had it. I’ve worked in the vet industry for years so I’ve seen lots. When I worked emerg, clients would have bills well over $10k at times. Working at a regular practice now, we see clients spending well over $30k a year on meds and treatments to manage health issues. Insurance is super important to have in case you ever need it!! She is so lucky to have this many amazing people to love her and care for her. So happy for you and your fam!
100% top piece of advise, before you even get the dog sign up for puppy training classes. Even if youre confident in your ability to train a dog, there is no downside to puppy training classes and its so beneficial to the dog and sets you both up for success. Plus alot of classes will help kids learn how to get onboard with training too so everyone is on the same page ❤
I have a somewhat similar story to this!! I wanted a dog for YEARS from the age of 12 and on but my mom was a single mom and not ready for it. When I was newly 18 my grandma got very sick and ended up in a nursing home in hospice. At this nursing home there was a flyer for puppies and we went to go see them and this particular one stuck out to me. He was so adorable but I wanted a girl dog and my mom actually let me get one! They weren’t ready to go home yet and about a week later the owner of the puppies calls and says her house was broken into and says the one puppy I picked out was taken. Just that one puppy! Very strange and I was devastated but she said we could have our choice of any of the other ones but there’s only boys left. We went to see them that day and there was the original puppy that stuck out to us! I picked him right away. I got a picture of my grandma and him before she passed away but I truly believe she picked him out for me 🥲❤️ he’ll be 14 this may. He’s been the most amazing dog and best friend I’ve ever had. I thank my grandma all the time for giving me him.
How exciting! Make sure to keep all socks and ponytail holders picked up. I've seen a lot of pups that have had to have surgery due to blockages from those.
This is a very helpful tip, I had a dog once who took my scrunchie off of my hand and I tried to get it from her and she swallowed it! I panicked I asked my mom if she would be ok my mom said yes she will poop it out, but the scrunchie was thick I didn’t understand why I was the only one who cared. 3 days later she threw it up. Luckily she was ok.
Teach your dog how to safely get in and out of your pool. Accidents can happen. If she ever falls in she should able to get out safely on her own. Hopefully that’s never the case but always best to be prepared
This! I do rehab swimming with my poodle. And the trainer Said they make every dog wear a life vest bc even tho dogs are usually very good swimmers, but when they drown, they drown FAST
100% crate train!! It's one of the best thing to do for your dog. Gives them a den to call their own, particularly with lots of kids around. Also lots of socialisation, but work on the dog being neutral around those things. Don't let them meet every dog they see, it can lead to reactivity. So excited for you guys!!
Yes! Our dog was crate trained, and it was so convenient. He slept there at night and would put himself to bed because he liked being in there. It helped keep him from barking at outside critters during the night.

Our dog died at 17 I swore I would never have another dog I love both dogs and cats but I was heartbroken when Lucy (a boy ) my daughter named him at three and it suited him.. a few years later mum died and my daughter and I moved into a unit with the 2 cats. My daughter then moved across Australia and I was alone for the first time ever. My girl friend breeds poodles and cavoodles. She was needing a breeding male and asked if she brought one I had to love and feed she would do the rest. Like you so many signs. I had just become legally blind and to have a toy poodle 8 week old puppy big commitment. But Jess what a blessing it was hard but he is two now and like my little guide dog. I trained him so well. He warns me when people are behind or in front he tells me when to cross the road ( still don’t 100% trust that but hasn’t got me knocked over once yet he has given me the confidence to walk every day on my own. I need a walker because of chronic pain and he walks beside me like look out my mums coming he has given me the support I needed. I love him so deeply and vice Versa. I had one eye removed and only 5% sight left in the other and he is my life line. Plus he’s so damn cute people stop to chat and Pat him. It’s awesome. Wishing you all the love and fun with your new sweetheart. If I can do it in a two bedroom unit with 2 fat cats and toy poodle here you will be just fine. I agree but someone who has both gotten from shelter ans gotten from breeder. Sometimes it's best to get from a breeder. For the need I had the breeder qas the best way to go for me. My shelter dog was great too but I couldn't have one the shed and that's had to find. I tried. But nothing fit quite right. Shelter dogs also often have a lot of issues with behaviors. And that isn't worth a risk with 7 kids.
@@jaejae37I agree but no reputable breeder would sell puppies off a neon poster on the side of the road. Reputable breeders do health testing and have home visits and waitlists. This is a backyard breeder and backyard breeders are who are filling the shelters.
I would be VERY leery and careful of those people posting puppies for sale on those posters. Most of them are scams and backyard breeders and I’ve seen them all over the place. Please make sure you are not supporting these people and their breeding factories.
A couple things: I worked in dog grooming for years, and Doodle breeds are one of the biggest mistakes I see first time pet owners make. These dogs are a tremendous amount of work; their coats require CONSTANT brushing. Like combing through each part throughly, at least once a day. This is a lot more work than it sounds like. Any water on these dogs coats causes severe matting if not treated properly immediately. Basically, the dog will cost tons in professional grooming and will likely still need to be shaved often. Puppies will eat EVERYTHING. Two dogs I had growing up needed bowel obstruction surgeries to remove household items they ate… a friend of mine recently lost her 6 month old puppy due to this. They will get into anything and everything. Be very careful, nothing is safe around a puppy. And, WHY would you go to a backyard breeder??? There are rescues and shelters everywhere. Backyard breeders can be notorious for putting out extremely sick and medical problem prone animals. Not just initially, but dogs who have lifelong problems due to the quality of their breeding. Super disappointing to see you promoting this.
Congrats Jess and family!!! The one piece of advice I would give is that crate training is SO much more important than anyone says it is. It can be life changing and the only safe space for your puppy when you leave. Another thing would be to sign up for puppy classes immediately and train EVERY DAY! Even just for 5 minutes. Consistency is key and can be life saving in all sorts of circumstances. Good luck!
I second this!!! Crate training is 100% usefull. My dog no longer goes in it when we arent home. But we keep it up so she is comfortable in a crate because as I learned ; if they ever end up in the hospital they crate them! If they ever get lost and found they crate them! At day care and boarding they crate them!! So having the crate itself not being a scary thing for the dog is Super important
Training needs to be consistent. Every child you have is going to want to help with this but if it's going to work at all, it must be consistent. Everyone uses the same commands, ex. Sit, stay, come...whatever you decide, everyone needs to use the same words and be on the same page. I think this is an exciting time for your whole family and I'm thrilled for you all. I’m so excited for you! I’m a dog groomer and I definitely recommend you get her groomed as soon as possible. It’s pretty scary in the beginning for dogs but she’ll need it for her whole life. 4-6 weeks for grooming appointments! 8 weeks at most especially when she’s young!

100% get puppy training asap. I did when my dog was 11 weeks old, he’s almost 4 yrs old and it helped him so much. He is so well behaved and well mannered. Also if you plan on getting her groomed start grooming her young. I started my dog at 6 months he absolutely loves going and has no issues. Congrats on the puppy!
Totally understand I have 7 kids myself . We all so have 4 cats . First house been allowed to have animals at .. dogs yes are alot more work then cats are . Yep they are like another child .. my kids are turning this year 15,14,12,11,9,7,5 and have been looking at getting a dog . Just have to work what one will suit our family as well
Maybe instead of being judgemental you could’ve said something nice? Not everyone can go to a rescue. Rescue’s normally have extremely strict guidelines and rules which have to be followed and a majority of the time families with young kids aren’t normally allowed to rehome.

Doodles are notorious for having horrid behavioral problems so PLEASE immediately get her into training and keep an eye out for signs of aggression, even the smallest things can turn into disasters, especially with children
Congratulations. I don’t ever remember a day in my life without a dog. Since I was a kid we’ve always had dogs. Multiple dogs. I had two, but lost my Sweetpea a couple of years ago. My mom has 5. My sister has 2. My brother had 2. My other brother has 4. My oldest sister has 1. I guess we qualify as a dog family. 😊 the right dog can be so important to young children growing up and your kids really love animals so it’s a win win for you and the puppy. 🐶 ❤
as a person who works with dogs for a living i highly recommend you desensitize her! like messing with her paws, mouth, ears, etc. since she’s a doodle she’s going to need to be groomed all her life. even loud noises, nail clippers/dremel, anything really. if you want your dog comfortable around people and dogs i do recommend you socialize her young (vaccinated first!). some stores like home depot are pet friendly, or even outside of a mall. a golden doodle wouldn’t be my ideal breed at all but congrats on the new pup i hoped this helped!

I dont really beleive in fate or anything like that, but my two puppies (now 10 and 1) came to me in similar ways. They were meant to be in my lives, in each litter i looked at there was only ever one i was interested in - they both turned out to be the last of two left out of big litters. They have brought so much joy to my life at the hardest times, when it didnt seem like there was anything else to stay for.
CongratsJesssFam, what an amazing story! I am a cat & dog person, but I only have cats because I'm a lazy homebody lol. Training & socialization are huge for dogs. I would also take her to get groomed soon. Even if she doesn't need it yet, you want to take her a few times as a puppy so she can get used to it. That way, she won't be as anxious or aggressive for groomers.
•Start grooming between 8-12 weeks. •Doodles are notoriously bad for grooming but if you start early hopefully you can avoid the bad grooming behavior. •Please take 5 minutes to brush every day. •Your dog will be greatly benefited by it. •Start the day you get her. •Do it at the same time every day. •Most doodles come to the groomers really matted because the owners don't brush every day. •Practice touching her paws, holding the leg, bending the paws the way the groomer would. •Once you find a groomer set up a time for meet and greet so your puppy can get to know their groomer before the groomer actually has to start doing scary things to her. •She'll need grooming every 4-6 weeks. •That means you will need to bathe, blow dry and brush her yourself at least twice a month but ideally once a week. CONGRATULATIONS!! I know she'll be loved and well cared for.
Make sure you get her vaccines before you bring her home. Parco is a terrible disease that dogs can get and it looks like you have farm(?) land where many other animals have lived. Just to be safe. Also the flea and tick prevention pills/chews are very important and way better that the collars or external medicines.

We took our puppy to a training class called "Dog's Best Friend" started by Patricia McConnell. I don't know if it's nation wide??? I also recommend any of her books. Our vets here carry them.

Totally agree that doing puppy training is so beneficial! We used Pet Smart! Also, be VERY careful with dog shampoos as we found that every time we used them our dog got sick! Blue Dawn dish soap with the duck on it works wonders. DO NOT use rawhide bones as they are super dangerous or the brand Hentz. Not a good company. These are my opinions we had an epileptic dog and so we did a lot of research.
my mom was the exact same way! until december 2022 my best friend texted me jokingly asking if i wanted a dog because her aunts neighbor gave him up and because it was the same breed as my best friend's dog they were taking care of it. i called my mom begging because i wanted a dog so bad but she was at work and didn't pay much attention to it or so i thought... she then picked me up from my aunts house that night and our little puppy was sitting there 🥰🥰 it was a impulse decision on my parents part but we all think it was the best decision!! his name is simba ❤️

Don’t give up on the crate training! Cover the sides /top with a blanket and it’ll help them feel more secure. The first night they will cry but it gets so much easier and is worth it! Also, potty training.. keep up on a schedule. Once puppy starts sniffing around immediately take her outside and tell her to go potty. If she does go potty inside, still take her out immediately and say to go potty! Good luck!!

I got my puppy last year and let me tell you the puppy blues are insane when doing it by yourself. I would highly advise teaching the kids to be involved if not it’s going to suck
Please make sure you keep up with getting them groomed every 2-4 weeks. Doodle coats are so hard to maintain and living out where you do, they will get matted very easily. It’s super painful to the dog to have matting as it pulls on their skin. It can also hide things like fleas and ticks.
You have SO Much Beautiful land you and your family should start a garden all of you pick a couple veggies and fruits and plant together maybe even so beautiful fruit trees
My biggest advice is make sure the kids are as involved as possible in all aspects of training. We got ours at 8 weeks when my kids were 2 and 3. Hes almost 4 and listens to them so well and respects them. I found puppyhood hard, but at almost 4, he's pretty easy and laid back.
Please research and find a good quality dog food. Not purina, pedigree, blue buffalo or other grocery store brands. Pay attention to the first 5 ingredients. Get your puppy used to going to thr groomers at a yound age and on a regular schedule. Be sure to brush her at least daily to avoid matting. Get a gate around your pool so the puppy can't accidentally fall in. Even if it can swim it could tire and drown and that would be devastating. I recommend a martingale collar or a good fitting harness and always walk on a leash. Especially as a puppy. She needs to learn to always stay by you and not run off.
I’ve had dogs just about all of my life. My Wheaten terrier died last August just short of her 14th birthday. Several members of my family and I made a 12 hour round trip to Ohio to get a new puppy.

😂 I’m one of those people that advocate for getting dogs. I love cats too and other pets, but if there is even a slim chance to rescue a dog or cat from a shelter, I jump at it like dive head first into getting one. I love them so to hear someone say they want to get a dog or a cat I say go for it!! 😂the universe works in mysterious ways. Grammy was saying “hey this dog this one goes to Jess and the kids.” 😂 I don’t really advocate for crate training I know some people do, I just never did with any of my dogs, I always liked letting them just sleep in my bed with me and the cat. It’s just a stronger bond I feel you get with letting the dog sleep on the bed with you.
Hey Jess, I always watch but have never commented. My only advice for you coming from a Cavoodle lover/owner please please please find an amazing groomer and have you pup start as soon as they are fully vaccinated and continue on a 3 to 4 weekly basis it is sooo important for there coat to be maintained well and being how much land you have and how much you guys are outside I would suggest you go short cuts to help with that maintinance as their coats are like velcro. Beware this dog will absolutely steal your heart. ❤. Our dog of 13 1/2 years just passed away right after Christmas. We got him a couple months after we were married and he welcomed home all three of our babies with us. Best dog ever. Now we’re in an in between waiting til our hearts are ready for a new puppy.
I work in the grooming, boarding, daycare world and all I can say is GROOM her every 8 weeks atleast!!! Keeps her fur in the best condition and then she won’t have to be shaved if she gets matted if you waited longer! Also socialize her and get her familiar with boarding and other dogs so if you ever had to leave her she was comfortable being boarded! Socializing at a young age helps with aggressiveness towards other dogs as well!!!
I would say from my own experience is that a long line leash will be your best friend until you have a solid recall! Especially with the size of your feild means the pup and strech their legs and you can practice recall without worry about her running off :)) ❤

Dogs are so much company!! As for the puppy years you can never and I mean never have enough dog toys!!! Those are a life saver since she will probably be going through the teething process. As for potty training I would recommend staying with taking her out every 2 hours. The important thing is to start training very early in her life. But I’m so happy that you got a puppy

When I was 11 years old we went to get a puppy. I was thinking I didn't know why we bothered because every time we got a dog it made it a year or two and then died. The black lab we got was perfect for our family and live over 14 years. She outlived the rest of her litter. Sometimes it is just meant to be.
I have 2 dogs both girls I would say for crate training is that some dogs don’t like it but some dogs do crate training will be hard but it will be awarding as well usually you would start training at 8 weeks old but I would say maybe a month old when I got Frida and she was a moth old I started crate training with her. And she got used to it I would also suggest that sit ,wait and stay should be your first training for her!
I hope you plan on adopting from the shelter. They are overwhelmed here in Sacramento county with the amount of dogs needing homes. Please don’t buy from a breeder.
Make sure to touch ears and paws frequently that will help make it easier for nail trims or ear cleaning. Have either a groomer cut her hair or get a dog hair kit and brush frequently as well to get her used to faster. This is as a puppy so when she is older it is easier on you and if needed vet team.

I have had dogs my whole life. They are truly angels. I have three now two English mastiffs and a Boston terrier. Word of advise stay away from rawhide tug o war Ropes any sort of bones raw or cooked. Lost a dog from a chicken bone that cut her intestine. Keep up shoes socks hair bows small balls anything that could cause an obstruction. Get all of those puppy shots and have her spayed. Having her spayed will prevent puppies of course but also a uterine infection which can be deadly. Most of all love and spoil her…dogs are special as any animal is and they love their people unconditionally. Good luck with the new addition.

I don’t know about the US, but in the UK it’s hard to get a dog from a shelter if you have young kids. And we don’t know anything about the breeder. I have two golden retrievers who were an accidental pregnancy. ☺️

I also want to clarify that this was someone’s family dog that had puppies who needed to be rehomed. Mom had a litter and they are now getting her fixed. 🫶🏻

@@Donna754 seems my response is being deleted. stricter spay and neuter laws need to be enforced to prevent this from happening. for a family dog to become pregnant in the first place is a sign of negligence on the owner’s behalf. if their dog was adopted/rescued to begin with she would most likely would have been spayed as it is required prior to adoption. being that the puppies are now in the world, advertising them on a neon green poster taped to a pole is also not a great sign of ethicality. if they were rehomed, then no fee should have been made as that would be a sale. my further frustration is this message being shared on a large platform. people are clearly impressionable and it is a shame this is the message being relayed versus adopting/rescuing.

I work in a pet (and grooming) store and I didnt see ANYONE mention this: doodles need CONSTANT GROOMING. they may be cute but outside of training you need to make sure you keep up with grooming! Buying a metal comb and combing it all over often (almost everyday) helps it not be matted! Also the right food for the dog is also important! Fromm and Nutrisource are really good dog food kibble brands!

Yup groomer here as well and they are very high maintenance. Especially the nails, clip them every 3-4 weeks. Overgrown nails can bend over and break the tendons.
100% this! I have a Spoodle, got him when I was young and didn't do any research on breeds. I wouldn't change getting my boy for the world, but I wish I knew about the grooming aspect beforehand as it is expensive (but very needed). I'm very fortunate that I can afford a great groomer for my dog when he needs it, but unfortunately some people see it as a luxury expense, not a necessity for this breed.
New puppy…I wouldn’t let her run that huge yard until she’s had her parvo shot. Also don’t take her to the park either until that’s done. Parvo kills a lot of pups because people don’t know not to take them out to parks or yards where other dogs have been. That parvo vaccine is important!

Parvo is no joke! When I adopted my Australian cattle mix she had parvo unbeknownst to me. She was 10 weeks old and started getting sick immediately after bringing her home from the shelter. I spent over $500 in vet care and a couple sleepless nights playing nurse to her. I really thought she was going to die. I've never seen such a sick animal. She made it. She didn't come out unscathed though. She had stomach issues for months and required prescription food, probiotics, and medicine. She's the most expensive mutt I've ever owned. 😂

the biggest piece of advice i could ever give to a new dog parent is to stay away from rawhide anything!! it is incredibly dangerous and there are so many more great alternatives that your new fur baby will love even more! i can’t wait to see her, i’m so excited for y’all!!!🥹🥹🥹

Huge tip would be to get pet insurance as soon as you get her! Poodles and poodle mixes are prone to a variety of health conditions, many of which can be expensive to manage. People often don’t think it’s important to have until something happens and they wish they had it. I’ve worked in the vet industry for years so I’ve seen lots. When I worked emerg, clients would have bills well over $10k at times. Working at a regular practice now, we see clients spending well over $30k a year on meds and treatments to manage health issues. Insurance is super important to have in case you ever need it!!

100% top piece of advise, before you even get the dog sign up for puppy training classes. Even if youre confident in your ability to train a dog, there is no downside to puppy training classes and its so beneficial to the dog and sets you both up for success. Plus alot of classes will help kids learn how to get onboard with training too so everyone is on the same page ❤

I wanted a dog for YEARS from the age of 12 and on but my mom was a single mom and not ready for it. When I was newly 18 my grandma got very sick and ended up in a nursing home in hospice. At this nursing home there was a flyer for puppies and we went to go see them and this particular one stuck out to me. He was so adorable but I wanted a girl dog and my mom actually let me get one! They weren’t ready to go home yet and about a week later the owner of the puppies calls and says her house was broken into and says the one puppy I picked out was taken. Just that one puppy! Very strange and I was devastated but she said we could have our choice of any of the other ones but there’s only boys left. We went to see them that day and there was the original puppy that stuck out to us! I picked him right away. I got a picture of my grandma and him before she passed away but I truly believe she picked him out for me 🥲❤️ he’ll be 14 this may. He’s been the most amazing dog and best friend I’ve ever had. I thank my grandma all the time for giving me him.
when you are training you need to make sure the puppy knows the simple command look it will make everything much easier

How exciting! Make sure to keep all socks and ponytail holders picked up. I've seen a lot of pups that have had to have surgery due to blockages from those.
This is a very helpful tip, I had a dog once who took my scrunchie off of my hand and I tried to get it from her and she swallowed it! I panicked I asked my mom if she would be ok my mom said yes she will poop it out, but the scrunchie was thick I didn’t understand why I was the only one who cared. 3 days later she threw it up. Luckily she was ok.
Teach your dog how to safely get in and out of your pool. Accidents can happen. If she ever falls in she should able to get out safely on her own. Hopefully that’s never the case but always best to be prepared
This! I do rehab swimming with my poodle. And the trainer Said they make every dog wear a life vest bc even tho dogs are usually very good swimmers, but when they drown, they drown FAST

Yes! Our dog was crate trained, and it was so convenient. He slept there at night and would put himself to bed because he liked being in there. It helped keep him from barking at outside critters during the night.

Our dog died at 17 I swore I would never have another dog I love both dogs and cats but I was heartbroken when Lucy (a boy ) my daughter named him at three and it suited him.. a few years later mum died and my daughter and I moved into a unit with the 2 cats. My daughter then moved across Australia and I was alone for the first time ever. My girl friend breeds poodles and cavoodles. She was needing a breeding male and asked if she brought one I had to love and feed she would do the rest. Like you so many signs. I had just become legally blind and to have a toy poodle 8 week old puppy big commitment. But Jess what a blessing it was hard but he is two now and like my little guide dog. I trained him so well. He warns me when people are behind or in front he tells me when to cross the road ( still don’t 100% trust that but hasn’t got me knocked over once yet he has given me the confidence to walk every day on my own. I need a walker because of chronic pain and he walks beside me like look out my mums coming he has given me the support I needed. I love him so deeply and vice Versa. I had one eye removed and only 5% sight left in the other and he is my life line. Plus he’s so damn cute people stop to chat and Pat him. It’s awesome.

There’s so many dogs in shelters in NorCal :/ especially being euthanized. To each their own though.
I agree but someone who has both gotten from shelter ans gotten from breeder. Sometimes it's best to get from a breeder. For the need I had the breeder qas the best way to go for me. My shelter dog was great too but I couldn't have one the shed and that's had to find. I tried. But nothing fit quite right. Shelter dogs also often have a lot of issues with behaviors. And that isn't worth a risk with 7 kids.
@@jaejae37I agree but no reputable breeder would sell puppies off a neon poster on the side of the road. Reputable breeders do health testing and have home visits and waitlists. This is a backyard breeder and backyard breeders are who are filling the shelters.

I would be VERY leery and careful of those people posting puppies for sale on those posters. Most of them are scams and backyard breeders and I’ve seen them all over the place. Please make sure you are not supporting these people and their breeding factories.

A couple things:
I worked in dog grooming for years, and Doodle breeds are one of the biggest mistakes I see first time pet owners make. These dogs are a tremendous amount of work; their coats require CONSTANT brushing. Like combing through each part throughly, at least once a day. This is a lot more work than it sounds like. Any water on these dogs coats causes severe matting if not treated properly immediately. Basically, the dog will cost tons in professional grooming and will likely still need to be shaved often.
Puppies will eat EVERYTHING. Two dogs I had growing up needed bowel obstruction surgeries to remove household items they ate… a friend of mine recently lost her 6 month old puppy due to this. They will get into anything and everything. Be very careful, nothing is safe around a puppy.
And, WHY would you go to a backyard breeder??? There are rescues and shelters everywhere. Backyard breeders can be notorious for putting out extremely sick and medical problem prone animals. Not just initially, but dogs who have lifelong problems due to the quality of their breeding. Super disappointing to see you promoting this.

The one piece of advice I would give is that crate training is SO much more important than anyone says it is. It can be life changing and the only safe space for your puppy when you leave.
Another thing would be to sign up for puppy classes immediately and train EVERY DAY! Even just for 5 minutes. Consistency is key and can be life saving in all sorts of circumstances. Good luck!
I second this!!! Crate training is 100% usefull. My dog no longer goes in it when we arent home. But we keep it up so she is comfortable in a crate because as I learned ; if they ever end up in the hospital they crate them! If they ever get lost and found they crate them! At day care and boarding they crate them!! So having the crate itself not being a scary thing for the dog is Super important
Training needs to be consistent. Every child you have is going to want to help with this but if it's going to work at all, it must be consistent. Everyone uses the same commands, ex. Sit, stay, come...whatever you decide, everyone needs to use the same words and be on the same page.

I’m so excited for you! I’m a dog groomer and I definitely recommend you get her groomed as soon as possible. It’s pretty scary in the beginning for dogs but she’ll need it for her whole life. 4-6 weeks for grooming appointments! 8 weeks at most especially when she’s young!

i reccomend training when there rlly young (sit, stay etc) as well as good leash walking skills when you first get them
100% get puppy training asap. I did when my dog was 11 weeks old, he’s almost 4 yrs old and it helped him so much. He is so well behaved and well mannered. Also if you plan on getting her groomed start grooming her young. I started my dog at 6 months he absolutely loves going and has no issues. Congrats on the puppy!

Not everyone can go to a rescue. Rescue’s normally have extremely strict guidelines and rules which have to be followed and a majority of the time families with young kids aren’t normally allowed to rehome.
@@ashleighdean6943 Literally everyone in the US can go to the shelter. There are no such restrictions in place. The only reason someone would not be allowed to adopt from a shelter is if they were banned by a court that they aren't allowed to own animals.

Congratulations. I don’t ever remember a day in my life without a dog. Since I was a kid we’ve always had dogs. Multiple dogs. I had two, but lost my Sweetpea a couple of years ago. My mom has 5. My sister has 2. My brother had 2. My other brother has 4. My oldest sister has 1. I guess we qualify as a dog family. 😊 the right dog can be so important to young children growing up and your kids really love animals so it’s a win win for you and the puppy. 🐶 ❤
as a person who works with dogs for a living i highly recommend you desensitize her! like messing with her paws, mouth, ears, etc. since she’s a doodle she’s going to need to be groomed all her life. even loud noises, nail clippers/dremel, anything really. if you want your dog comfortable around people and dogs i do recommend you socialize her young (vaccinated first!). some stores like home depot are pet friendly, or even outside of a mall. a golden doodle wouldn’t be my ideal breed at all but congrats on the new pup i hoped this helped!

I dont really beleive in fate or anything like that, but my two puppies (now 10 and 1) came to me in similar ways. They were meant to be in my lives, in each litter i looked at there was only ever one i was interested in - they both turned out to be the last of two left out of big litters. They have brought so much joy to my life at the hardest times, when it didnt seem like there was anything else to stay for.
CongratsJesssFam, what an amazing story! I am a cat & dog person, but I only have cats because I'm a lazy homebody lol. Training & socialization are huge for dogs. I would also take her to get groomed soon. Even if she doesn't need it yet, you want to take her a few times as a puppy so she can get used to it. That way, she won't be as anxious or aggressive for groomers.
•Start grooming between 8-12 weeks.
•Doodles are notoriously bad for grooming but if you start early hopefully you can avoid the bad grooming behavior.
•Please take 5 minutes to brush every day.
•Your dog will be greatly benefited by it.
•Start the day you get her.
•Do it at the same time every day.
•Most doodles come to the groomers really matted because the owners don't brush every day.
•Practice touching her paws, holding the leg, bending the paws the way the groomer would.
•Once you find a groomer set up a time for meet and greet so your puppy can get to know their groomer before the groomer actually has to start doing scary things to her.
•She'll need grooming every 4-6 weeks.
•That means you will need to bathe, blow dry and brush her yourself at least twice a month but ideally once a week.
CONGRATULATIONS!! I know she'll be loved and well cared for.
Make sure you get her vaccines before you bring her home. Parco is a terrible disease that dogs can get and it looks like you have farm(?) land where many other animals have lived. Just to be safe.
Also the flea and tick prevention pills/chews are very important and way better that the collars or external medicines.

We took our puppy to a training class called "Dog's Best Friend" started by Patricia McConnell. I don't know if it's nation wide??? I also recommend any of her books. Our vets here carry them.

Totally agree that doing puppy training is so beneficial! We used Pet Smart! Also, be VERY careful with dog shampoos as we found that every time we used them our dog got sick! Blue Dawn dish soap with the duck on it works wonders. DO NOT use rawhide bones as they are super dangerous or the brand Hentz. Not a good company. These are my opinions we had an epileptic dog and so we did a lot of research.
my mom was the exact same way! until december 2022 my best friend texted me jokingly asking if i wanted a dog because her aunts neighbor gave him up and because it was the same breed as my best friend's dog they were taking care of it. i called my mom begging because i wanted a dog so bad but she was at work and didn't pay much attention to it or so i thought... she then picked me up from my aunts house that night and our little puppy was sitting there 🥰🥰 it was a impulse decision on my parents part but we all think it was the best decision!! his name is simba ❤️

Don’t give up on the crate training! Cover the sides /top with a blanket and it’ll help them feel more secure. The first night they will cry but it gets so much easier and is worth it! Also, potty training.. keep up on a schedule. Once puppy starts sniffing around immediately take her outside and tell her to go potty. If she does go potty inside, still take her out immediately and say to go potty! Good luck!!

I got my puppy last year and let me tell you the puppy blues are insane when doing it by yourself. I would highly advise teaching the kids to be involved if not it’s going to suck
Please make sure you keep up with getting them groomed every 2-4 weeks. Doodle coats are so hard to maintain and living out where you do, they will get matted very easily. It’s super painful to the dog to have matting as it pulls on their skin. It can also hide things like fleas and ticks.
I hope she takes it to a legit groomer or have a mobile groomer come to her house. I hope she doesn't use Petsmart. They're dangerous and not good.
You have SO Much Beautiful land you and your family should start a garden all of you pick a couple veggies and fruits and plant together maybe even so beautiful fruit trees
My biggest advice is make sure the kids are as involved as possible in all aspects of training. We got ours at 8 weeks when my kids were 2 and 3. Hes almost 4 and listens to them so well and respects them. I found puppyhood hard, but at almost 4, he's pretty easy and laid back.

Please research and find a good quality dog food. Not purina, pedigree, blue buffalo or other grocery store brands. Pay attention to the first 5 ingredients.
Get your puppy used to going to thr groomers at a yound age and on a regular schedule. Be sure to brush her at least daily to avoid matting.
Get a gate around your pool so the puppy can't accidentally fall in. Even if it can swim it could tire and drown and that would be devastating.
I recommend a martingale collar or a good fitting harness and always walk on a leash. Especially as a puppy. She needs to learn to always stay by you and not run off.
I’ve had dogs just about all of my life. My Wheaten terrier died last August just short of her 14th birthday. Several members of my family and I made a 12 hour round trip to Ohio to get a new puppy.

😂 I’m one of those people that advocate for getting dogs. I love cats too and other pets, but if there is even a slim chance to rescue a dog or cat from a shelter, I jump at it like dive head first into getting one. I love them so to hear someone say they want to get a dog or a cat I say go for it!! 😂the universe works in mysterious ways. Grammy was saying “hey this dog this one goes to Jess and the kids.” 😂
I don’t really advocate for crate training I know some people do, I just never did with any of my dogs, I always liked letting them just sleep in my bed with me and the cat. It’s just a stronger bond I feel you get with letting the dog sleep on the bed with you.
Awesome congrats! I would suggest, try to train the dog to potty in one spot in the yard for easy cleanups!!
Hey Jess, I always watch but have never commented. My only advice for you coming from a Cavoodle lover/owner please please please find an amazing groomer and have you pup start as soon as they are fully vaccinated and continue on a 3 to 4 weekly basis it is sooo important for there coat to be maintained well and being how much land you have and how much you guys are outside I would suggest you go short cuts to help with that maintinance as their coats are like velcro. Beware this dog will absolutely steal your heart. ❤. Our dog of 13 1/2 years just passed away right after Christmas. We got him a couple months after we were married and he welcomed home all three of our babies with us. Best dog ever. Now we’re in an in between waiting til our hearts are ready for a new puppy.

I work in the grooming, boarding, daycare world and all I can say is GROOM her every 8 weeks atleast!!! Keeps her fur in the best condition and then she won’t have to be shaved if she gets matted if you waited longer! Also socialize her and get her familiar with boarding and other dogs so if you ever had to leave her she was comfortable being boarded! Socializing at a young age helps with aggressiveness towards other dogs as well!!!
I would say from my own experience is that a long line leash will be your best friend until you have a solid recall! Especially with the size of your feild means the pup and strech their legs and you can practice recall without worry about her running off :)) ❤
A king charles spaniel would be ideal great with kids and easy to look after
I always pictured them with a golden retriever. A great family dog for the kids to grow up with.
Yay!! Doggies are the best I have a mini golden doodle the biggest advice is definitely to keep up their grooming but other than that they’re precious.

Dogs are so much company!! As for the puppy years you can never and I mean never have enough dog toys!!! Those are a life saver since she will probably be going through the teething process. As for potty training I would recommend staying with taking her out every 2 hours. The important thing is to start training very early in her life. But I’m so happy that you got a puppy

When I was 11 years old we went to get a puppy. I was thinking I didn't know why we bothered because every time we got a dog it made it a year or two and then died. The black lab we got was perfect for our family and live over 14 years. She outlived the rest of her litter. Sometimes it is just meant to be.
I have 2 dogs both girls I would say for crate training is that some dogs don’t like it but some dogs do crate training will be hard but it will be awarding as well usually you would start training at 8 weeks old but I would say maybe a month old when I got Frida and she was a moth old I started crate training with her. And she got used to it I would also suggest that sit ,wait and stay should be your first training for her!
I hope you plan on adopting from the shelter. They are overwhelmed here in Sacramento county with the amount of dogs needing homes. Please don’t buy from a breeder.
She has young kids, might be hard to adopt. That’s how it is in the UK at least. I’m sure she’ll look into it though.
Make sure to touch ears and paws frequently that will help make it easier for nail trims or ear cleaning. Have either a groomer cut her hair or get a dog hair kit and brush frequently as well to get her used to faster. This is as a puppy so when she is older it is easier on you and if needed vet team.
It’s amazing how God and your loved one in heaven work together to help make things happen for there loved one on earth. What a beautiful heart warming testimony.
I loved taking my dogs to puppy classes and obedience classes afterward.

I have had dogs my whole life. They are truly angels. I have three now two English mastiffs and a Boston terrier. Word of advise stay away from rawhide tug o war Ropes any sort of bones raw or cooked. Lost a dog from a chicken bone that cut her intestine. Keep up shoes socks hair bows small balls anything that could cause an obstruction. Get all of those puppy shots and have her spayed. Having her spayed will prevent puppies of course but also a uterine infection which can be deadly. Most of all love and spoil her…dogs are special as any animal is and they love their people unconditionally. Good luck with the new addition.

Please don't support unethical breeders. Designer dogs are not bred ethically. They're basically mutts. Instead you could adopt a mutt from the shelter.
I don’t know about the US, but in the UK it’s hard to get a dog from a shelter if you have young kids. And we don’t know anything about the breeder. I have two golden retrievers who were an accidental pregnancy. ☺️
@@bethan-maejames1170 The fact that the breeder was advertising by posters says a lot about this breeder. No reputable, ethical breeder who truly cares about their dogs wellbeing is going to advertise on posters.
