There’s a reason nostalgia is on the menu. Myself and others my age who just turned 40, are looking back at how amazing our childhoods were in the 90’s without the internet and being controlled by devices (except Super Nintendo/Sega Genesis). There’s a sense of longing for those times. And with all the craziness in the world now those 90’s style clothing, media, art are all bringing us back to a time that seemed…. happy.

    • @manuhernandez
      @manuhernandez หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I like your POV,, I agree with you. I’m not in my 40s tho, I’m just 31 haha, but I’ve lived long enough to witness the closing and beginning of some eras. I think the team in charge of redesigning Jaguar knew they were going for something completely different-I wouldn’t underestimate that.
What I think Jaguar got wrong was choosing a design that visually screams for attention by trying to be different. And how, visually, it seems like the brand shifted from selling high-end cars to selling high-end cars for the kids of wealthy people. Maybe that was the intention-changing their target clientele-but I’m not sure.
On their Twitter page, their CMs are responding with a lot of arrogance, which is making people talk about them even more. I don’t know how much “Mr. Jaguar” is enjoying this haha, but let’s see what happens in a few days when they unveil their cars.

Also an underrated idea is that women will buy masculine cars, but men usually won't buy feminine cars. There's a reason ford/toyota/tesla dominate market share. You'll see far more women in a dark colored F150 than men in a bright smart car. The cybertruck by Tesla is a great example of how they already worked hard for that masculine appeal before Elon was openly conservative (I know car guys still see it as soft, but you get the point). The fact that Subaru is known for being a more single woman type car, while not even having strongly feminine aesthetics says a lot.

While I think the advert is awful, I do think that Jaguar is not marketing to the same Western market that it used to sell to. I expect that this rebrand is aimed at the super wealthy in places like China, India and UAE who don’t really care much about the legacy of the brand. I’m gonna be the crazy one and say that their sales in a year’s time will look much better than currently.

This ad has irritated a whole lot of late middle age white men who probably could not afford a Jaguar, and would never buy an EV. But it has ignited the Internet with the name Jaguar. Just prior to a launch of what would appear to be a stunningly interesting car. A EV launch that might just avoid the almost instant "ya, whatever" reaction that the big car companies are getting when they introduce yet another EV that is just a dressed up version of their existing model. What is the most boring new product intro class out there right now? Yet another EV. This Jag ad might just be brilliant.

So i think they had a glitch on their website. I saw their new electric car on their website. They had boxy front lights. It looked like the Jaguar F-Type with white boxy headlights, ultra-modern. The front grill was all silver. I saw it and was like, wow, that's so ugly. I thought it was public and then left. I didn't even go to their car page, but it was all electric. The Starting price I saw was 77. It also has a lot of retro tech inspirations on it as well. The lights are also slightly tucked in under the front grill and are black. But the silhouette was very F-Type like but harder lines not nearly as smooth.

the annoying part is that this style, and likely, this audience that they are now appealing to. has a very specific, and honestly very annoying key mentality
they're gonna pretend they're winning because of the reaction, the whole "erm that is exactly the point" or "you just dont get it" or "its not for you" or "well why are you mad"
in general using the backlash from this whole situation as a sort of confirmation bias that because they are trying to be so unique and different, they expected the "norm" to react negatively
but the "norm", the people that ACTUALLY buy Jaguars and have the disposable income to buy the newly branded/designed ones. are probably some 30 to 60 year old wealthy businessmen that will see this and definitely be put off by it

Totally get trying to blow it all up for a new avenue when shit isn't working. It's insane how a brand with over a 100 year history makes ads that only really work for new brands or some sporty Toyota. The Jaguar is a car you'd see someone drive in Saltburn, idk maybe connect that with something i'm no expert.

    but why is it bad?
if they make a successful hit with their product; I can see that being a win.
it seems to me they are in a great position to make such a hard pivot to a more high-art/high-fashion market; in that they don't have much to lose.
is it out of touch? I don't think we know yet.
most of the internet who hates on this new move I wouldn't say is in their target market.

@@orenmeetsworldI have to disagree. A huge part of the luxury car market is image. That’s why associating it with James Bond was so successful. Even if the car is good the fact that the entire internet is LAUGHING at Jaguar is terrible for them. It’s not shocking, it’s not controversial except in how awful it is. Given the new nicknames I’m seeing everywhere for Jaguar, someone with the income to buy a luxury car is not looking for a brand that’s being ridiculed around the world.
