is there a part two of this love the idea of jug bands and washboard bands, I have a lot of the old recordings and love to see guys trying to reproduce that stuff it's really great
Jim Queskin Jug Band was popular in the 1960s. Maria Muldaur played violin and Geoff Muldaur played guitar. It was fun infectious music. They played coffee houses , no alcohol just catchy happy music. Look it up
I found several of their albums at used record stores in the 70's. I was only vaguely familiar with them at the time. A very young Maria Muldaur, then Maria D'amato. All very proficient .
If you really want to hear a "jugband" that actually made it, you'll have to go back to the 1960e & the Aussie Group "Mungo Jerry's "IN THE SUMMERTIME". It was a 1 hit wonder, at least in the U.S. but they had a few very successful albums in Australian. Also, they had a very talented singer/songwriter/pianist who simply used jug band instruments to drive what was really more of a soft upbeat rock sound & Not "jug band" at all.
I came to Google (finally, after yeeeears) because of the Lovin' Spoonful mentioning jugband music several times. Heck, they've even got a song called Jugband Music. And now I know why the doctor in that song prescribed it, because you can't help but feel better after listening!
first off I wanted to say Im glad yall like the old stuff. It's great and I love it too! but if you're gonna educate folks about the origins of Jug Band Music, you might want to revise the film. I hate to nit pick somebody's project but I gotta say something! Just a couple things... It's generally accepted that the birthplace of jug band music is Louisville, KY, not St. Louis, MO. I also don't think there was a band called the Dixieland Jug Busters. Did you mean the Louisville based band, the Dixieland Jug Blowers? what jug bands were from St. Louis? It's just that this old music is so great and I hate to see misinformation added to this already murky history. ... not trying to be a jerk yall.
2:43 The hard part isn't playing the right notes, but doing so while keeping a straight face.
Either most people don"t know how to play a jug, or this guy has a new style.
Great video !

The jug !! Aka loose lips
The jug just sounds like farts
I really dig it, but the jug reminds me too much of awkward buzzing exercises in middle school band. More like a fart chorus.
this is me after taco bell th-cam.com/video/00ezil7iN8A/w-d-xo.html
...wow...I really used to use spoons like that as a little girl...grandad, thanks :)
