Enlightened once again with that golden tidbit about yellow, then red dropping away in the distance. Colour choices for landscapes will be a lot easier with that in mind. Thanks heaps 🙌
Good morning! I'm a new fan. Love the advice you're giving out for free. Even though I understand warm and cool colors, I still watch you're videos for more knowledge 🤓
Excellent tip with keeping a separate brush just for the sky. I'm going to use that one. Warmer colors dropping out earlier further back you go... another good one.
i watched so many painting video, and when i found you, it was like baaam, i could finaly understand how to properly mix colors, it's amazing, thank you so much for sharing all your videos
Agreed, your videos are certainly incredibly helpful. I've previously painted in CMYK acrylics and since watching yours and a few others I've taken the steps to try oils and also to paint much more loser and freely with oils. Thank you.
Well, Chris, YOU are my special Thanksgiving present of 2020 ... and I wanted something really special today. "You" were "offered" to me by TH-cam; I had never seen you before, I had sort of narrowed down to my favorite art teacher, Diane Mize, but you have brought a fresh perspective to my learning. The first one I watched tonight was about "Painting Small" - that was JUST what I needed... I have been so uninspired. I did a 36" x 45" for my sister and was glad to send it to her...I really struggled to fill up that space and still to keep it relative. Painting small is the perfect antidote for me! I thank you. It was so good for me, I have gone on and now this is the 3rd lesson I've gotten into tonight and I do feel ready to begin to paint tomorrow. One more time, I thank you. The color mixing one is just wonderful watching you do it, to match it... great...and now you have given me an insightful lesson on the realities about "warm" and "cool" colors. One last time tonight, I thank you!
@@paintcoach Now I'm over there watching the one about the Gamsol and the medium. It brought me to MY question: Have you done, or will you do, a video on Liquin. Once I found it, I can hardly go without but that was what was happening on my BIG picture, it was all getting too thin. So far in the 4 videos, I have not heard a word about Liquin and wonder if you have a simpler solution...the way your basic palate with the 3 primaries and the white was such a simple and fresh approach...it freed me.
I think I'm becoming addicted to your videos :D Ty for another one! Bro, I want to tell you another one cool thing about small picture sizes(yeah, again). When I was painting on large formats, my productivity wasn't very high. I was looking at this big picture, like "meh, I'm painting this picture for week, I don't want to do this anymore :(" and poof, some kind of artblock! But now I paint new pictures (around 12x12 inches(or 30x30 cm) EVERY 1-2 DAYS! (And their quality makes me very happy too). It's just fantastic! 😨
Thank you so much for all of your informative videos! Every topic has been amazing! As a beginner painter, this channel has been an invaluable resource. Signed up for your newsletter and will probably do Patreon when I can narrow down the time to be more disciplined. 😀 Thanks for sharing your gift. Blessings!
Hi Chris. Thanks for the video, very interesting. Perhaps you can help me understand how to de-saturate a blue/green sea closest to the horizon? The compliment is red/orange which are warm colors. Doesn't make sense, if these are the colors that drop out with distance.
Hi Chris! So you have a photo reference. How do we "study" a photo! What you start painting first? Layer 1..back round ...Layer 2 . ???? . Could you do a vid about that??? If you do 2 samples .... 1 portrait and 1 landscape ! Sometimes i find myself starting at the photo thinking ..."hmm where do i start from " . Thank you in advance! Your vids are very helpful! No many art youtube accounts get it right . You sir are spot on it terms of sharing useful information !!! Thanks! 🙋♀️🌺
I have seen in some videos that they mention what the warm and cool colors are for each basic color. For example, for blue, they say that ultramarine is the warm blue, while cerulean blue or phthalo blue are the cold blues. Cadmium yellow is the warm yellow, while lemon yellow is the cool yellow. Cadmium red is the warm red, alizarin crimson the cool red. Are all of these valid? What is your opinion;
Hi I’ve seen 2 of your videos, even though I paint with watercolours I have learned some things from you. Have you ever painted watercolours before? If. So I love to see how you work with them😊
Quick question, ive just started to buy black paint, in the past i would simply make it with Prussian blue and burnt umber, but now im playing with blacks and finding some real variations in their warmth, my question, Is Mars black a warm black?
You will not belive... I know a cold yellow and a warm blue ( cadmium lemon and ultramarine blue). It is relative of course. I advice to have both cold and warm hues of each color on your palette to make volume.

' Branching out ' ... can give 'color harmony ' to a painting. I never realized that, but seems to make sense! Thanks for your super helpful Vids!

I recently started oil painting and have found your videos such a valuable resource. Thanks so much dude!
Color IS amazing, right up there with the light spectrum, DNA and numbers. Thanks coach. (I let the ads play.)

You are the best teacher, love your videos, I will watch all of them 🤩🤩🤩🤩
Thank you! 😃

I think your a fantastic teacher....that's a compliment right?
Be careful, you'll neutralize him!
You are so HELPFUL seriously! Thank you 💞

Thank you for this great lesson!
I enjoy your videos so much! Your a fantastic artist!❤️
When making larger piles of paint, do you use a palette knife? what does your palette look like with larger piles of paint
This is so helpful! Thank you!
Awesome video! ❤

Very good video yet again Chris
Do you have any tips on lettering on the sides of vehicles or buildings ? Thanks Chris

Insightful as always. Thanks 🙏🏽
Extremely helpful
Thanks 🙌🏼
Great tips. Thanks a lot.
Cool (pun intended)! For completeness, you might want to add to the description the exact colors you used. The red looks almost maroon in the video.
It's his usual palette, Ultramarine blue, Alizarin Crimson and Winsor Yellow + titanium white ;)
Maroon is just dark red!!
I am curious about how Artits draw light .
Like a very shiny sun or street lights .
Quick question, ive just started to buy black paint, in the past i would simply make it with Prussian blue and burnt umber, but now im playing with blacks and finding some real variations in their warmth, my question, Is Mars black a warm black?
Ivory black is warmm, not sure about Mars, you can do a question search?
Appreciate your videos!!
Glad you like them!
Great video!
Hi Chris, when you are desaturating a colour using its complementary colour does this mean that the colour is getting cooler?
You will not belive... I know a cold yellow and a warm blue ( cadmium lemon and ultramarine blue). It is relative of course.
I advice to have both cold and warm hues of each color on your palette to make volume.
Ty for your comment, very helpful! I recently wondered about the existence of warm blue :D
Thanks :)
Welcome!
blue, purple,cool green=cold, red, yellow, orang=warm
