  • We climbed Mera Peak after spending one additional day at Khare 4.950m to acclimatize and recover. The weather was superb, although there was a lot of snow on the days prior and the trail had only been broken the day before.
    We got up to the summit as the first team of the day and had perfectly clear skies with views off all the mountains surrounding us - Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Baruntse, Ama Dablam, Pumori, Cho Oyu etc.
    The climb was one of the best climbs I've ever done!!!

      There's only one minor mistake as pointed out by someone else - I labeled the wrong mountain as Cho Oyu. Cho Oyu is a bit further to the left. The mountain I labeled is Gyachung Kang 7.952m

      @adidoesultra9777  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I see your argument, but the peak is hard to get to as there are no guided expeditions easy to get into and due to its close location to the border, the area is closed for most nationals or requires special permits

    Hi,
    I am thinking about going to Mera peak as well.
    But I am wondering about the requirements.
    I am am in pretty goods shape and go running regulalry between 10-20 Kilometers. I go indoor climbing once or twice a week. And have often been in the mountaints in Germany often since I was a Kid.
    The biggest altitude I have been at was 5046m while on a trip in Peru.
    But I don`t have any expierince with crampons or trekking in snow/ice in gerneral.
    Do you think it is neccesary to have experince with this before trying Mera Peak ?
    Or can you learn these things in the short time you spend there ?
    From what you showed in the Video it didn`t seem that there was any technical hard parts per see ( I know that the temperature and high altitude will make it harder than it seems)

    • @adidoesultra9777
      @adidoesultra9777  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think the altitude of 5.046m should be good enough to have a feeling for higher mountains regarding pace etc.
      The endurance of 10-20km should be good enough if you include a bit of strength training for legs like lunges or similar exercises
      Regarding the technical part: I don't think its really difficult to get up, although the walking with crampons requires some training. Maybe do one or two winter tours in the alps to get used to it

    nice work, congrats! i’m going there soon and i personally wonder what kind of gear, clothing, backpack you had, i think many hikers would love to hear about that kind of log story. i also wonder about that malaysian climber, was he rushing, he didn’t have acclimatizations or sth else. yeah so many questions while watching this nice video :)

    • @adidoesultra9777
      @adidoesultra9777  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is interesting to hear. I was thinking about doing a video like that but was unsure if there's demand for that kind of content.
      Regarding the malaysian climber:
      I'm no medical doctor and there was no autopsy I know of, so this is my take on it: According to the sherpas he started feeling quite bad when going up but continued. Once they turned around and got back to camp, he was already pretty much out. They went down to Khare to get medical oxygen but found him to be dead once they returned.
      This can have several underlying reasons, but HAPE or HACE (altitute sickness) seem the most likely ones.
      I don't know how he acclimatized or how fit he was, but you see a lof of people there who are not really well prepared...just don't be one of them. The mountains are no joke!

      I have the DJI Air2S.

      The video quality is superb!

    Nevertheless an impressive feat..kudos to you

    • @adidoesultra9777
      @adidoesultra9777  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Stok Kangri is "only" 6.153m high, so around 300m lower than Mera Peak. I can't compare the difficulty myself, as I've never been to Stok Kangri. But Mera Peak definitely has no "technical" difficulty (climbing)

  • @ianevans7110
    @ianevans7110 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I am sorry to disappoint, but Mera Peak isn't even the highest trekking peak in Nepal let alone the 'world' !! In fact Mera Central (6461m) the summit you climbed isn't even the highest part of Mera Peak - which is Mera North at 6476 metres. Maps going as far back as the 1979 Schneider 1:50,000 show this to be the case. I checked this out first hand for myself on a visit way back in 1988. The summit is however a great viewpoint, but the peak is now well climbed and over-documented.

    • @adidoesultra9777
      @adidoesultra9777  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I can see your argument, although I have to disagree to some of it.
      Mera Central is lower than Mera North, this is right. But due to the fact there's no broken trail to Mera North and there are a few bigger crevasses you'd have to navigate around I wouldn't consider it a Trekking Peak, but a classic climb on a glacier.
      There's no official "Highest Trekking Peak", I mean you could consider Muztagh Ata 7.546m a trekking peak as well if you don't count the camp logistics and the effort of a whole expedition, as the climb itself has no technical difficulties.
